Chapter 640: Chapter 638: It’s Me Who’s Pregnant, Not You

Gu Jiaojiao was woken by the sound of firecrackers. She opened her eyes to see the man beside her sleeping soundly.

In reality, Su Shuochi had been awake for a while. The moment he saw his wife starting to stir, he quickly shut his eyes and feigned sleep.

But the sharp-witted Gu Jiaojiao didn’t notice her husband was awake. Her eyes still half-closed, she reached out and gave him a push.

"Su Shuochi, wake up. I told you not to go on so late last night. See? Other families are already eating."

"You’re awake, honey? Are you tired?"

"How can you even ask? Hurry up and get out of bed, or Erya will be knocking on our door again!"

"She won’t come knocking today," Su Shuochi said confidently.

He’d told Erya and her brother yesterday that if they came knocking again in the morning, they wouldn’t get any red envelope money.

"Why not?"

"Because kids love the New Year. They’ve gone off to play with firecrackers."

The couple quickly washed up and went downstairs, only to see Mr. Su with Little Stone, paying respects to the deities.

"Chi, you’re awake! Hurry over here and pay your respects," Mr. Su called out, his face wreathed in smiles.

Su Shuochi obediently walked over. It was noon on New Year’s Eve, and every household was joyfully setting off firecrackers that filled the air with loud CRACKS and POPS.

’It was the New Year, so he should contribute to the family somehow.’ He and Gu Jiaojiao hadn’t helped put up the Spring Festival couplets, chop the vegetables, or prepare the New Year’s Eve dinner.

But he figured it was best to listen to his dad when it came to honoring the deities and ancestors. Gu Jiaojiao also seemed to have been swept up in the festive atmosphere.

She and Erya started by peeling apples and oranges, then cutting them and arranging the slices in the center of a plate to form a plum blossom.

Next, they washed some winter jujubes in warm water, blanched them in boiling water, and placed them around the outer edge of the plate to create a wavy border.

Finally, they peeled some kiwis, sliced them crosswise, and stacked the slices in the very center of the platter.

The fruit platter, a creation designed by Gu Jiaojiao using yellow orange slices and white apple pieces, was complete.

It was vibrant, beautifully arranged, and nutritious. Seeing it, Su Shuochi couldn’t resist reaching out a mischievous hand.

"If you want some, there are clean ones over there. This one is for everyone to share after dinner."

"I was just teasing you. Look how worked up you got! Hahaha..." Su Shuochi laughed, pulling out some fireworks he had prepared earlier.

He set them up outside, cheerfully lit the fuse, and immediately ran back to cover Gu Jiaojiao’s ears.

A dazzling flower of light instantly bloomed, dyeing the sky in brilliant, eye-catching colors.

"Auntie is such a scaredy-cat! I’m not afraid," Little Stone said, hopping over toward the firework tube.

This made Mr. Su roar with laughter, his face blooming with joy. This was the happiest New Year of his entire life.

’He believed that from now on, every year would only get better for their family, and it was all thanks to his daughter-in-law.’

The family gathered together, enjoying a sumptuous New Year’s Eve dinner while happily chatting about the year’s successes.

The more they talked, the happier they became. At the dinner table, a cheerful Mr. Su gave everyone a big red envelope.

Gu Jiaojiao received three red envelopes, and she was so delighted her eyes crinkled with a smile.

She only had to give red envelopes to those younger than her: Su Qinchun, Erya, and Little Stone.

Once the adults had eaten and drunk their fill, Su Qinchun eagerly brought out the fruit platter she and her sister-in-law had made for everyone to try.

After dinner, the family sat in front of the television, engrossed in the program as they stayed up to welcome the new year.

Only when a new round of firecrackers began to pop, filling the sky with colorful bursts, and cheers erupted to welcome the rising sun did Su Shuochi finally pull Gu Jiaojiao off to bed.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Gu Jiaojiao had planned to visit the Dong Family to pay her respects, but she received a call from her parents. They told her the whole family was coming to Qing City on the morning of the second day.

In truth, Gu Jiaojiao wouldn’t have had time to go out anyway, as a constant stream of visitors came to the Su family home to offer New Year’s greetings.

Su Qinchun, Erya, and Little Stone collected so many red envelopes their arms grew tired, but they were still polite enough to serve tea and wash fruit for the guests.

Fortunately, the Su family’s courtyard was large enough that it never felt crowded, despite all the guests coming and going.

After the New Year celebrations, Mr. Su and Su’s mother took their grandson back to Shuanghe Village. They would return to stay with Su Qinchun for her senior year of high school once the new semester began.

Su Shuochi and Gu Jiaojiao returned to the Imperial City to get back to their busy careers and studies...

「Time flew by.」

In the blink of an eye, more than a year had passed, and the New Year was approaching once more. In that time, their business had grown immensely, becoming one of the nation’s leading enterprises.

The couple had also visited Frank’s home country; Gu Jiaojiao went to share her medical expertise, while Su Shuochi finalized orders for his medical equipment.

They had started their business together, weathering every storm to get to where they were today. It hadn’t been easy; they had faced countless life-or-death situations.

It took nearly three years to get everything on track. By then, Su Shuochi was twenty-nine, and Gu Jiaojiao was twenty-one.

This latest trip abroad, a combination of work and travel, had lasted for three months. They agreed that they would start trying for a baby as soon as they returned home.

On their way home, they stopped in Hong Kong City to visit Mr. Zhou, which made Zhou Zhenhui absolutely ecstatic.

He took the couple sightseeing and on a culinary tour through all the streets and alleys of Hong Kong City.

After two days of feasting, however, Gu Jiaojiao couldn’t stop throwing up, which terrified Su Shuochi.

Even though he had urgent work waiting for him back at the company, he was too worried about his wife.

So, he canceled their plane tickets, insisting on taking her to the hospital for a complete physical.

’He ate that kind of food all the time, so how could Jiaojiao get sick from it?’ Zhou Zhenhui was startled as well.

He drove while Su Shuochi held Gu Jiaojiao, and together they rushed to the largest hospital in Hong Kong City.

The doctor looked at the two anxious men, then back at the patient’s test results in his hand, which confirmed a pregnancy.

’This would certainly be a surprise for the patient.’ When Zhou Zhenhui saw his friend, the doctor, hesitate, his heart skipped a beat.

"Just say it. Jiaojiao is a Divine Doctor herself. There’s no illness she can’t cure. She’s the one who cured my grandfather’s stomach cancer..."

"What? You’re the world-famous Divine Doctor Su Gu? You’re pregnant! Didn’t you know?" the doctor exclaimed, waving the test results at her.

Su Shuochi could hardly believe the doctor’s words. They had been so busy abroad for the last few months and had just been planning to start trying for a baby when they got home.

"Doctor, what did you say? I’m really pregnant?" Su Shuochi shot to his feet, excitedly snatching the test results from the doctor’s hand.

Zhou Zhenhui leaped up as well, speaking without thinking, "Su Shuochi, you’re really pregnant?"

"Haha... I’m really pregnant! Look, it says here, thirteen weeks! Haha... I’m already pregnant with a child?"

"..."

The young hospital director, who was also Zhou Zhenhui’s friend, was completely stunned as he watched the two grown men laugh like idiots.

’He desperately wanted to yell, "It’s your wife who’s pregnant, not you!"’

Watching Su Shuochi’s flustered expression, Gu Jiaojiao found the whole thing hilarious. "You idiot, I’m the one who’s pregnant, not you."

Su Shuochi chuckled foolishly, nodding again and again. He swept Jiaojiao up in his arms and spun her around. "This is amazing! I’m going to be a dad! Amazing! I need to go work even harder now, make lots of money for the baby! Hahaha..."
