Chapter 410: Chapter 410: Misunderstanding
"Slow down. We just need to go get the piano later."
"It was delivered to Shen Zhengfeng’s place."
Qin Jiao froze, then immediately started eating faster. "I’ll go with you!" she said.
She wasn’t worried about Shen Zhengfeng. While he wasn’t a good person, he cared immensely about his reputation. The piano was for Shen Yi, so no matter how reluctant he was, he wouldn’t be shameless enough to keep it.
The same couldn’t be said for the others, however.
Meanwhile, Mr. Du sat down slowly. "Xiao Jiao," he asked, "is something wrong with the family?"
"It’s nothing. Just that bit of trouble with my uncle. It’s been handled."
"Mm, that’s good." Mr. Du ate in small bites, remarking with a sigh, "I’ve realized I still like your cooking the best, Xiao Jiao."
Qin Jiao smiled. "You got it. When I have a day off from class, I’ll come back and cook for you."
"Mm."
After the three of them finished their meal, Qin Jiao and Shen Yi headed out. Standing on the subway, they watched their reflections in the window.
’No matter how he looked at it,’ Shen Yi thought, ’we’re a perfect match!’
Qin Jiao asked, "Weren’t they supposed to send you the piano in another six months?"
"I went and told him that I love to draw and my wife loves to play the piano. I said we wanted our lives to be a harmonious duet, so he sent it to me early."
Qin Jiao was stunned. ’You can do that?’
’And he seemed to be getting a little too comfortable calling her his wife.’
She didn’t have the energy to argue with Shen Yi about the title. "I don’t know about anyone else," she said, "but with Li Xiaomei’s personality, chances are she’s already claimed the piano as her own. She can play a little, so I bet she’s already started."
Shen Yi gave a faint smile. "It’s fine. If she breaks it, she can pay for it. And if she doesn’t have the money, we’ll just make Shen Zhengfeng pay."
Qin Jiao had guessed right. When Li Xiaomei saw the piano being delivered, she was so happy her smile etched deeper crow’s feet by her eyes. She enthusiastically poured water for the movers, then excitedly called Shen Zhengfeng.
Shen Zhengfeng had just closed a big deal with a furniture company from the South, so he was in high spirits. He was even mulling over the three-hundred-some-yuan watch he had bought for Li Xiaomei. When he took her call and heard her unusually gentle voice, Shen Zhengfeng felt a wave of contentment.
Li Xiaomei said, "Oh, Brother Feng, you’re too good to me! I can’t believe you bought me such a valuable gift!"
"It’s not that expensive," Shen Zhengfeng said. "When I make more money, I’ll buy you something even better!"
Li Xiaomei was floored. ’This piano costs tens of thousands! The cheapest ones are over ten thousand, and Shen Zhengfeng just said it wasn’t expensive!’
’He must really love me!’
Her heart swelled with affection. "Brother Feng," she said, "when are you coming home today? I bought some groceries, I’ll cook for you."
"Mm, alright. I’ll try to get back early."
As it happened, right after Shen Zhengfeng hung up with Li Xiaomei, he received a call from the Du family’s relative. The person on the line explained that the piano had been delivered to the wrong address and someone would be coming to move it soon.
Since Shen Zhengfeng had business dealings with the caller, he was perfectly polite, telling them it was no problem and to go ahead and move it.
After hanging up, something else came up. Shen Zhengfeng got busy and completely forgot to call Li Xiaomei.
Meanwhile, Li Xiaomei was gingerly stroking the piano, her eyes dancing with sparks of joy. Old Mrs. Shen happened to pass by and asked curiously, "Where did this come from?"
Li Xiaomei said with a smile, "Brother Feng bought it for me."
Old Mrs. Shen didn’t know the first thing about pianos, nor could she play, but she still remarked, "This must have been very expensive, right?"
