Chapter 401: Chapter 401: Just Asking for a Beating

"Forget them! Didn’t I already make myself clear? I said your third brother is never setting foot in our house again! After all, he was even scheming against Xiao Lan! And Zhong Hui told us not to say a word, but what did you do?"

Qin Bogang had always been intimidated by Sun Li. Seeing her this furious, and feeling incredibly guilty himself, he whispered, "Why are you bringing up the marriage swap again? Isn’t that over and done with? It was a trap set by the Geng family."

Sun Li shouted, "Then why didn’t they trap someone else? Why specifically Qin Jiqun? You really have a short memory! They were about to sell your daughter, and you turn right around and start shamelessly cozying up to them again! If you keep this up, who knows when you’ll end up selling me and our daughter too!"

"Enough. Zhong Hui just called, and he sounded furious. Qin Jiqun must have stirred up some trouble over there. You can explain it to Qin Zhonghui and his family yourself later."

Sun Li felt utterly drained. ’I used to think that as long as we could make it work, I wouldn’t leave him,’ she thought. ’After all, our child is so old now.’

But now she was realizing that Qin Bogang would never truly change unless those four people from his hometown were completely out of the picture!

Just then, Qin Xiaolan returned from her evening study session. She froze when she saw the mess on the floor. "Mom? Dad? What happened?"

"It’s nothing. I just accidentally dropped a bowl. You must be hungry. Let Mom make you something to eat."

Teenagers were always growing and needed something to eat after their evening studies. When Qin Bogang saw his wife acting normally, he breathed a sigh of relief. But then his thoughts returned to the phone call, and his face clouded over with worry again, wondering what trouble his third brother had caused at his second brother’s home.

Sun Li cleaned up the floor, then boiled a bowl of chive and egg dumplings and brought it to her daughter.

Qin Xiaolan was studying with great enthusiasm these days. She knew she wasn’t as brilliant as her cousin, Qin Jiao, who had been the top scorer in the province, but she was still hopeful that with enough hard work, she could get into a university in North City.

Noticing her mother’s troubled expression, Qin Xiaolan took the bowl of dumplings but didn’t start eating right away. She craned her neck to peek outside, then asked in a hushed voice, "Mom, did you and Dad get in a fight?"

"Xiao Lan, if your father and I were to divorce, who would you live with?"

"Is that even a choice? With you, of course. But... if you get divorced, I can still call her my sister, right?"

’This girl...’ Sun Li, who had been feeling so heavy-hearted, didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’Her parents are talking about divorce, and that’s the first thing she thinks about.’

Xiao Lan took her mother’s hand. "Mom, just tell me. Something happened again, didn’t it? I’m a big girl now. You can tell me anything. Maybe I can even help you figure things out."

Looking at her remarkably sensible daughter, Sun Li thought for a moment before telling her what Qin Bogang had done.

She finished with a sigh. "Your second uncle is usually so good-natured, but even he was so angry he sounded harsh on the phone. He said your youngest uncle went over there demanding a job—said he wanted a management position at that clothing factory. And then, when they weren’t looking, Xiao Tao went into Xiao Jiao’s new apartment and wrecked the place. Apparently, he even broke some kind of computer."

Qin Xiaolan gasped. "Oh my god, those things are so expensive! That little brat, Qin Tao, he’s just asking for a beating!"

"Tell me about it! And you know Xiao Jiao, she’s always the most reasonable one. Even she was so mad that she made your youngest uncle pay for the damages directly. After that, he slunk off to a guesthouse. I bet he doesn’t dare stay at their place anymore."
