Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Let the Dogs Bite Them
"That doesn’t count. Shen Yi bought that computer, so the money is to compensate him. You know he’s wealthy, and he handles the finances in our house. If I don’t pay him back for this quickly, he’ll start a fight and threaten to divorce me."
This made things even more serious!
Qin Jiqun never actually intended to find a guesthouse. His plan was to bring his son, plead poverty, and move right into his second brother’s house.
His parents were old and didn’t have much money, and he had no desire to work in the fields. After his previous engagement fell through, his reputation in the village was ruined. Then he heard from his eldest brother that his second brother’s family was doing well in North City—they lived in a big house, and his niece’s husband even owned a factory. That’s when he got the idea.
His parents also supported his trip, which led to the scene today.
But who could have expected that kid, Xiao Tao, to have such meddling hands? To think he’d actually mess with that computer!
Qin Jiqun immediately said, "Xiao Jiao, you must be busy. We’ll, uh, we’ll head to the guesthouse and rest. We’ll come see you again tomorrow."
Without waiting for Qin Jiao to reply, he dragged his bruised and swollen son, Xiao Tao, away.
Seeing the father and son had finally left, Qin Zhonghui immediately walked over. "Xiao Jiao, I’m sorry. I was tied up with your third uncle and didn’t even notice Xiao Tao run into your room."
Everyone living in the courtyard house is family, so who would think to lock their doors?
Qin Jiao said, "Dad, you’re still too soft. So what if they’re family? When they’re being unreasonable, you have to call them out on it. Otherwise, they’ll just keep pushing their luck. Give them an inch, and they’ll take a mile!"
"It’s my fault. I’ll pay for the computer."
"Pay for what? It’s not broken." Qin Jiao walked over to an empty cage and asked, "Where’s Grandpa Du?"
"He went next door to play chess and isn’t back yet."
"Then what about his mynah bird?"
"That kid Xiao Tao opened the cage to try and grab the bird. It got spooked and flew away..."
Qin Jiao laughed in exasperation. "How can this be? We moved all the way to North City, and they’re still haunting us like ghosts! I should get two big German Shepherds for the house. If they dare come back, I’ll let the dogs bite them!"
Seeing his daughter fuming, Qin Zhonghui didn’t dare say a word. Without even realizing it, he was becoming more and more afraid of her.
Qin Jiao was thinking, ’I’ll have to buy Grandpa Du another mynah bird.’ Then she frowned and said, "How did our uncle find this place? Was that whole marriage-exchange business resolved?"
The father and daughter exchanged a look, and Qin Zhonghui instantly realized. "Your eldest uncle must have told him!"
He said this with a hint of anger, then immediately turned and went back inside to make a call. After a moment’s thought, Qin Jiao followed him.
’If Eldest Uncle really did give our address to that uncle, heh... then I’ll just have to convince Eldest Aunt to divorce him, take Xiao Lan, and find her a better father.’
’Looks like my eldest uncle is a lost cause!’
Qin Zhonghui was truly angry. He had specifically warned his eldest brother not to tell anyone back home, especially not their third brother. And yet, his eldest brother still told him?
When the call connected, Qin Zhonghui’s tone was harsh. But to his surprise, the person who answered wasn’t Qin Bogang.
"Zhonghui?"
"Sister-in-law? You’re back home?"
The one who answered was Sun Li. She said, "Yes, that whole marriage-exchange business has been resolved. Zhonghui, it’s all thanks to you. That Geng family really is something else. Their daughter got knocked up, and they wanted to make our third brother take the fall for it. But now everything’s out in the open, so they’re too ashamed to bother the Qin Family anymore. I heard Geng Kang’an even eloped with Geng Zhaodi."
Sun Li sounded like she was in a great mood. With the crisis averted, she had the time to gossip about others.
But Qin Zhonghui cut in, "Sister-in-law, where’s my eldest brother? I need to talk to him about something."
