Chapter 529: Episode 527: Babies are born!
"What is a simple phone call compared to my physical presence?!" Roxy screamed inside her own mind, her mental voice burning with totally unstoppable anger. "You took me away from them! You don’t get to pretend you are the good guys now!"
The smooth, annoying voice of the gods tried to speak again, but Roxy absolutely refused to listen.
She was completely done talking to them. She didn’t want their fake apologies, and she didn’t want their pity gifts. The gods had treated her like a toy on a game board for years. But she wasn’t a toy anymore. She was a mother, a Matriarch, and a fierce Queen. She slammed the heavy, invisible door inside her mind totally shut, completely locking the gods out of her head forever.
She didn’t need ghosts from the past. She just wanted to be at absolute peace with the amazing mates she had right here.
The absolute second she blocked the gods out, time suddenly unfroze.
The terrible, agonizing pain of the massive contraction slammed right back into her stomach. Roxy let out a loud, breathless scream.
In the real world, the delivery room was still completely, totally pitch black.
Total panic instantly broke out in the dark hospital room. The human doctors and nurses started bumping into each other, their voices high and terrified. The expensive medical machines were totally dead and silent. Outside, the terrible winter blizzard howled violently against the thick glass windows, completely burying the city in heavy snow.
"Do something!" Zarek roared in the dark, his deep voice shaking the walls. "Turn the lights back on and do your jobs!"
"We can’t, sir!" the head doctor panicked, sounding like he was completely terrified of the giant Dragon King. "The storm knocked out the main city power grid! We have to wait for the emergency backup generators to kick in!"
"My wife is not waiting!" Zarek yelled back, gripping Roxy’s sweaty hand tightly in the dark.
By the door, Syris and Caspian didn’t yell. They didn’t panic.
The elegant Swamp King and the sweet Sea King looked at each other in the dark hallway. They didn’t have their Beastworld magic, but they were still two of the smartest, strongest men on the entire planet.
"The basement," Syris said sharply, already moving.
"I’m right behind you," Caspian agreed.
The two Kings bolted down the dark, quiet hospital hallways. They didn’t wait for the slow elevators. They threw open the door to the emergency stairwell and ran all the way down to the bottom floor, taking the stairs three at a time.
They burst into the hospital’s dark, freezing basement. It smelled like old dust and motor oil. In the very back of the room sat two massive, heavy steel backup generators. They were supposed to turn on automatically, but the terrible ice storm had completely frozen the starter gears solid.
Syris didn’t waste a single second. He ripped off his expensive suit jacket and threw it on the dirty floor. He grabbed a heavy metal crowbar from a red toolbox and completely smashed the lock off the generator’s electrical panel. He pulled out a thick handful of colorful wires, using his brilliant, genius mind to instantly figure out which ones he needed to cross to hot-wire the giant machine.
"The main wheel is frozen!" Caspian shouted over the howling wind outside.
"Break the ice and crank it manually!" Syris yelled back, quickly stripping the plastic off two thick red wires with his bare teeth. "When I tell you, pull it as hard as you can!"
Caspian walked up to the side of the massive steel generator. There was a huge, heavy iron wheel meant to jump-start the engine in an emergency. It was covered in thick, solid ice, and it usually took three normal men to turn it.
Caspian grabbed the heavy iron wheel with both of his large hands. The giant Sea King planted his expensive boots flat on the concrete floor. He closed his eyes and pulled.
The thick muscles on Caspian’s arms and broad back totally bulged. He let out a loud, heavy roar of pure, human strength. The solid ice cracked loudly. The heavy iron wheel groaned, fighting against him, but Caspian did not stop. He forced the massive wheel to turn, spinning the heavy gears inside the engine.
"Now, Caspian!" Syris shouted, slamming the two thick, sparking red wires completely together.
A bright shower of orange sparks rained down onto the concrete floor.
The massive generator coughed once, twice, and then let out a loud, heavy, totally deafening roar. The giant engine spun to life, shaking the entire basement. freewebnσvel.cѳm
Upstairs in the delivery room, the lights flickered once, twice, and then blazed completely bright.
The expensive medical machines instantly beeped back to life. The doctors let out a huge sigh of relief. Zarek looked totally amazed, knowing exactly which of his brothers had just saved the day.
"Okay, Roxy, we are back!" the head doctor cheered, grabbing his medical tools. "The babies are ready! I need you to push on the very next count!"
The pain in Roxy’s stomach was totally overwhelming. It felt like she was trying to push a heavy boulder up a massive hill. She was sweating, completely exhausted, and her chest was heaving with fast, shallow breaths. But she looked up and saw Zarek looking down at her, his golden eyes completely full of pure, burning love. Torian was on her other side, gently wiping her hot forehead with a cool, damp cloth. Ren and Kaelen were standing right near the bed, sending her quiet, encouraging smiles.
She wasn’t alone. She was totally safe.
"One, two, three, push!" the doctor yelled.
Roxy squeezed her eyes shut. She gripped Zarek’s giant hand so incredibly hard that she almost broke his thick fingers. Zarek didn’t even flinch. He just leaned down, pressing his forehead gently against hers, letting her squeeze his hand as hard as she needed to.
"You are so strong, my Queen," Zarek whispered right against her skin. "You can do this. Bring our babies into the world."
Roxy pushed with everything she had. She was pushed to her absolute physical limits. The hours completely blurred together in a haze of bright lights, beeping machines, and totally exhausting effort. It was the hardest thing she had ever done in her entire life. She cried, she groaned, and she pushed until she felt like she had absolutely nothing left to give.
"One more big push, Roxy!" the doctor encouraged loudly. "I can see the head! Give me one more!"
Roxy took a massive, deep breath, tightened her grip on Zarek’s hand, and gave one final, completely powerful push.
Suddenly, the heavy, terrible pressure in her stomach vanished.
A second later, a loud, totally healthy, beautiful cry echoed through the bright hospital room.
It was the most amazing sound Roxy had ever heard. The baby was crying at the top of its tiny lungs, completely angry about being pulled out of its warm, cozy hiding spot.
Roxy fell back against the soft hospital pillows, completely out of breath. Happy, totally exhausted tears spilled out of her green eyes and ran down her cheeks. Zarek let out a shaky, deep breath, pressing a long, hot kiss directly to her sweaty forehead. Torian let out a loud, happy cheer, and Kaelen actually wiped a sneaky tear away from his icy blue eyes.
"Congratulations, Mom and Dad," the human doctor smiled warmly, expertly cleaning the baby off.
The doctor carefully wrapped the tiny, squirming baby in a soft, warm white blanket with little blue stripes on it. The baby had a full head of totally thick, dark hair.
"It’s a very healthy, very loud little boy," the doctor announced happily.
A sweet, totally innocent human nurse in blue scrubs stepped forward with a warm smile on her face. She reached her arms out, planning to take the wrapped baby over to the small, clear plastic weighing scale in the corner of the room to check his weight and measurements, just like they did with every normal human baby.
"I’ll just take him over to the scale real quick to get his numbers," the sweet nurse said politely.
But as the nurse reached her hands out toward the doctor to take the baby, a massive, terrifying shadow suddenly blocked her path.
Zarek stepped completely away from Roxy’s bed.
The giant Dragon King moved so incredibly fast that the sweet nurse actually gasped and took a frightened step backward. Zarek planted his heavy black boots totally flat on the white hospital floor, standing completely between the nurse and his brand-new son.
His broad, massive shoulders were totally tense. His golden eyes narrowed into a dark, entirely scary glare. He looked exactly like a giant, protective dragon guarding a totally priceless pile of gold.
Zarek stepped right into the poor nurse’s way.
