Chapter 525: Episode 523: Trouble Calls
If the angry human criminals in the city found out that the fierce Kings who tore down their gangs had a beautiful wife at home, they would definitely try to hurt her.
And if they found out she was pregnant with three babies? It would be a complete disaster.
Zarek let out a low, totally furious growl. He stepped right in front of Roxy, crossing his massive arms over his chest. "Nobody is putting a target on my wife," the Dragon King snapped, his golden eyes flashing with anger. "I will buy an island. We will move there tomorrow."
"We don’t need an island, Zarek," Syris said smoothly, setting his silver tablet down on the coffee table. He didn’t look scared at all. In fact, he looked incredibly proud of himself. "I already solved the problem."
Lira peeked over Roxy’s shoulder. "How did you solve it?"
"With our money, of course," Syris smiled, adjusting his crisp green shirt. "We have endless wealth, and I used it this morning. I didn’t just rent a hospital room for Roxy. I secretly bought the entire private top wing of the best, most expensive hospital in New York City."
Roxy gasped. "You bought a whole wing of a hospital?!"
"I bought it, and I locked it down tight," Syris nodded. "I hand-picked a team of the absolute best human doctors and nurses in the entire country. They are being paid millions of dollars, but they had to sign terrifying, iron-clad secrecy contracts. If they whisper a single word about Roxy or our babies to the outside world, they will lose everything. The wing is completely off the grid. There are no cameras, no public records, and Mr. Vance is putting our own massive security guards at every single door."
Zarek slowly uncrossed his arms. A huge, relieved smile spread across his handsome face. He walked over and slapped Syris hard on the back, totally thrilled.
With their endless billionaire money, Syris had built a perfect, totally safe bubble for Roxy to have her babies. The scary human mafia would never, ever know she was there.
For the next two months, the giant stone mansion was totally peaceful. Roxy’s belly started to grow just a little bit, bringing the Kings an insane amount of joy.
But as the babies grew, the wild pregnancy hormones finally hit Roxy.
And they hit her incredibly hard.
One rainy Tuesday afternoon, Kaelen and Caspian were sitting in the living room playing a quiet game of chess. Suddenly, they heard a loud, totally heartbreaking sob coming from the giant kitchen.
Both Kings instantly jumped up, knocking the chess pieces all over the floor, and ran as fast as they could.
They burst through the kitchen doors, expecting to see a broken window or an intruder. Instead, they found Roxy sitting on a tall stool at the marble island. She was wearing soft pajama pants and one of Zarek’s giant shirts. Her face was buried in her hands, and she was crying so hard her shoulders were shaking.
Torian and Ren were already in the kitchen, completely panicking.
"Who hurt you?!" Torian yelled, looking wildly around the empty room with his fists completely clenched. "Roxy, tell me who did this!"
"Nobody!" Roxy sobbed loudly, wiping a huge tear off her cheek. "I just... I just want a Cherimoya!"
The four giant, terrifying mafia bosses totally froze. They looked at each other in complete confusion. freewёbnoνel.com
"A what?" Ren asked gently, stepping closer to her.
"A Cherimoya!" Roxy cried, sniffing loudly. Her pregnancy brain was completely taking over, making her feel totally ridiculous, but she couldn’t stop the tears from falling. "It’s a really rare, exotic fruit! I read about it in a book a long time ago. The book said it tastes like a mix of sweet strawberries, pineapples, and bananas. I need it so badly my stomach actually hurts. But it doesn’t grow anywhere near here! I’m never going to get to eat one!"
She dropped her head onto the cool marble counter and started crying all over again.
The Kings completely melted. They could fight giant gangs and buy entire hospitals, but seeing their fierce Matriarch crying over a piece of fruit totally broke their hearts.
Syris walked into the kitchen, holding his black phone. He had heard the crying from his office. "Hold on, don’t panic," Syris said calmly. He quickly dialed the private number for Roxy’s new top-secret doctor.
He asked the doctor if this weird exotic fruit was safe for a pregnant woman to eat. A few seconds later, Syris hung up the phone and smiled. "The doctor says it is perfectly safe, and very healthy."
That was all Torian and Ren needed to hear.
Torian slammed his giant fist down on the marble counter. "I will not let my bunny cry over a fruit!" the huge White Tiger declared loudly.
"We are going," Ren agreed, his bright purple eyes narrowing with total determination. He walked over and gently kissed the top of Roxy’s dark hair. "Do not cry, my Queen. I promise you, we will bring you the sweetest Cherimoya on this entire planet."
Torian and Ren didn’t waste a single second. They ran to the front door, grabbed their heavy black leather jackets, and climbed into one of their fast, armored SUVs.
They drove down the mountain and straight into the busy, rainy streets of New York City.
At first, they thought it would be easy. They were billionaires! They walked into the most expensive, fancy grocery stores in the city, slamming hundred-dollar bills on the counters and demanding the exotic fruit. But every single store manager shook their head. The fruit was too rare. It was out of season. It was impossible to find.
But Ren and Torian absolutely refused to give up. They were not going home empty-handed.
Ren didn’t have his Beastworld magic anymore, but he was still incredibly smart and cunning. He used his street smarts, asking shady characters in the back alleys of the city until a guy finally gave him a tip. A private, illegal shipping boat carrying totally rare, exotic foods from South America had just docked at a hidden black-market port near the edge of the city.
By the time they drove to the hidden docks, the sun had completely set.
It was dark, cold, and raining lightly. The black-market port was super sketchy. It was a dirty, hidden alleyway squeezed between two giant, rusty shipping containers. It smelled strongly of old fish and dirty ocean water. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
Torian and Ren walked right into the dark alley, their heavy boots splashing in the muddy puddles. They didn’t look like they belonged there at all. They were wearing expensive clothes and expensive watches, totally sticking out in the dirty environment.
At the end of the alley, a nervous-looking man was standing next to a wooden crate, hiding under a small umbrella.
Ren walked right up to him, pulled a giant, thick stack of cash out of his jacket, and bought the entire wooden crate without even bargaining. Inside the crate, wrapped carefully in soft paper, were six perfect, green, heart-shaped Cherimoyas.
"We got it," Torian grinned a huge, happy smile, grabbing the heavy crate easily. "She is going to be so happy. Let’s go home."
Ren smiled back, turning around to walk back down the dark alley toward their parked car.
But as they walked out from between the rusty shipping containers, a heavy trash can was suddenly kicked into their path.
CLANG!
The loud noise echoed in the dark alley. Torian and Ren stopped walking.
Stepping out from the dark shadows were five rough, dirty-looking men. They were wearing torn jackets and had totally mean, ugly smiles on their faces. The dangerous human gang completely blocked the only exit out of the alley. They looked at Torian and Ren’s clean, expensive clothes and totally assumed they were just two weak, rich guys who had wandered into the wrong side of town.
"Well, well, well," the leader of the gang laughed, spitting on the wet ground. "Look at the rich boys. You shouldn’t be playing down at the docks after dark. Why don’t you hand over those fancy watches and your wallets, and maybe we will let you walk away with all your teeth."
Ren let out a slow, heavy sigh. He didn’t look scared at all. He just looked totally annoyed that they were going to be late bringing Roxy her fruit.
"We are in a hurry," Ren warned them softly, his purple eyes turning totally dark and serious. "Move out of the way. Right now."
The gang leader laughed loudly, completely ignoring the warning. He snapped his fingers.
All five gang members stepped closer, completely surrounding Torian and Ren in the dark, rainy alley. The sharp snick-snick sound of metal echoed in the quiet night as they all pulled out long, shiny knives.
