Chapter 31: Chapter 31. Rank evaluation.
Aiden was seated quietly at the back seat of the car.
A notification sound rang in his ears.
He checked his phone. The notification sound was not from his phone.
He tapped the watch twice.
A holographic screen appeared before him.
[University Software update.
Dear students,
From now on, students do not have to report to the mission hall before their missions are verified as completed. A new AI system has been developed for the university. This new AI system will monitor missions and reward students right on the spot for mission completion. If the mission involved bringing something back to the university, they should just send the required item to their villas. A newly developed university bot will be sent to receive the item]
"This is quite convenient. I don’t have to frequent the mission hall anymore. The Artifact Engineers Association on campus is really thriving. To think they’d come up with such a technology," Aiden thought. "The world is really entering an era of technology."
He checked the mission log.
[Congratulations on completing your mission.
You have obtained 4000 contribution points.
Current rank on the Heavenly Ascension Ranking List : 24100]
"Oh, the new technology has already taken effect huh," Aiden thought.
"We’ve arrived sir," the cab driver said. His voice was more respectful this time. The moment Hale saw the hologram popping up in front of the young man seated at the back seat, he knew only those prestigious warrior universities had the personnel to come up with these technologies.
This meant that the polite-looking young man at the backseat was a warrior, although apart from his good looks, he looked like a regular person.
No wonder he was visiting the Warriors Association.
"One should never judge a book by its cover," the man sighed inwardly.
Aiden replied to him politely, "Alright. Thanks for the ride."
"You’re welcome sir."
Aiden nodded. He made payment for the ride and stepped out.
The cab bolted off.
The morning could no longer be seen. The atmosphere was very humid.
A snowflake landed on Aiden’s face.
When someone exhaled, vapor came out of their mouths.
"Winter is here," Aiden thought.
He joined the crowd entering the Warriors Association building.
Aiden proceeded to a lounge at the front of the ground floor.
There was a small queue there.
A lot of warriors were there. All of them were students from Derulo City University, here to update their ranks.
Aiden quietly joined the queue and waited his turn.
"Did you hear, Grand Marshal Armstrong Lee personally slaughtered 10 legendary rank 4 chaotic beasts at the Frontlines."
"As expected of a legendary rank 4 warrior."
"Yeah, I saw it on the news. Seriously, the Grand Marshal is the role model of all warriors in the Eldorath Empire."
"Indeed. Anyway, have you heard about the upcoming National Warriors Universities Competition?"
"Dude, check the time well. That’s scheduled at the end of next year."
"Right... I totally forgot."
"But seriously, what’s happening in this city? Several powerhouse organizations are attacking one another through assassinations and ambushes."
"Yeah. Some university students at the Derulo City University killed themselves in a death arena. This is what has led to the altercation between their backgrounds."
"I see. At least no one has taken it too far. Else things wouldn’t have looked good for the residents of the city."
"Yeah. None of them want to take things too far. There’s too much at stake if a civil war is to break out between them. The assassinations and ambushes should be enough. I’m sure it will quell down soon."
"Yeah. Absolutely."
Aiden listened to the conversations happening around him quietly.
Very soon, it was his turn.
"Sir, are you here to register as a warrior or to update your rank?" a man in a suit asked Aiden professionally. Those behind him in the queue listened quietly, since they had nothing else to do but wait their turn.
"I’m here to update my rank please," Aiden replied.
A glint flashed through the man’s eyes.
"This person should not be more than 20 years old. Warriors age slowly. So some older warriors can retain their young looks for a long time. Legendary rank 4 warriors can even live for as long as 500 years if they are not killed after all. However, this person is definitely a young warrior."
"How long has it been since you became a warrior sir?" the man asked out of curiosity.
"Not more than two weeks ago," Aiden replied.
"Heh. What nonsense is he spouting? Does he think breaking through as a warrior is a walk in the park?" someone behind in the queue scoffed.
No one was looking down on Aiden. It was just impossible for one to become a beginner rank 1 warrior in not more than two weeks and achieve a breakthrough in such a short while.
Even those regarded geniuses took months to advance.
"Leave the queue and stop wasting our time. Some of us are here for proper business." Some of those in the queue said.
If this kid was delusional, he should have just stayed at home.
"Alright sir," the man who had been questioning Aiden said. "Kindly follow me."
Aiden ignored the remarks of the senior year students in the crowd and entered the room with the man.
"I suppose you are already familiar with the rank identification procedure sir?"
Aiden nodded.
A very large orb could be seen resting on a handle in the room.
The large blue orb was connected to a computer.
Aiden’s eyes turned crimson.
Several blobs of blood appeared before him, merged into one and turned into crimson arrows and shot towards the large blue orb.
The large crimson arrow hit the blue orb. Something on the blue orb eventually repelled it back.
The large crimson arrow turned into blobs of blood and returned into Aiden.
The man stared at Aiden as realisation dawned on him.
"So this is the rumored Aiden Vhorn my child in class 1A was talking about."
The man proceeded to look at the computer screen.
[ Intermediate rank 1 warrior]
The man was extremely surprised.
What sort of monster was this young man?
"Mr. Vhorn, your rank has been updated. Your weekly stipend as an intermediate rank 1 warrior has also been increased. Thank you for stopping by," the man said.
"Alright sir," Aiden nodded calmly, yet politely.
After that, the man led Aiden out of the room.
Those in the queue had all turned silent.
The room had transparent walls. So they could see pretty much the information displayed on the computer after Aiden’s rank evaluation.
The second-year students who had been making a mockery of Aiden could no longer speak.
Who the hell was this monster?
Why was it that some of them were here to update their ranks as intermediate rank 1 warriors, but this first-year student who had become a warrior just a week ago was at the same level as them?
Even those who were here to confirm their rank breakthroughs into the advanced rank 1 stage could not help but be shocked.
When did such a terrifying first-year student appear on campus?
Was the strongest first year not supposed to be Asmodeus Vincent?
Many made mental notes to do research on him when they returned to university campus.
Aiden quietly walked past them without even looking at them. They were entitled to their own opinions of him. He didn’t care about what others thought of him.
As the man watched Aiden’s retreating back, he sighed.
"It seems Derulo City University will be quite rowdy soon. What a terrifying young man."
He returned immediately to his duties after those words.
