Chapter 13: Chapter 13. The chase
Everyone looked at Aiden. Everyone realised something.
That’s right. This guy was flying when they first encountered him. He had some crimson wings on his back when they first encountered him.
But, could he maintain that for long?
"Can you maintain flight for long?" Dahlia asked.
"I can’t say much about that, but it should be okay to pull the plan off," Aiden replied.
Everyone nodded.
Aiden’s blood appeared before him and manifested into two crimson wings. The crimson wings attached themselves to his back. His eyes assumed a crimson color.
"So his affinity is blood manipulation? An affinity like this is quite unique," everyone thought. None of them had come across such an affinity before.
As for Aiden, he did not know what they were thinking.
Vincent handed over the invisibility bracelet to Aiden. Aiden put it on his right wrist. Vincent directed him to press a button on the bracelet.
Aiden pressed the button. Suddenly, he felt a wave wash over him. He turned invisible. Not even the rescue team members could see him. However, they waited for results with nervous expressions on their faces.
He flapped his crimson wings and shot towards the river bank. Aiden streaked through the air, the wind brushing over him, his hair fluttering, eyes crimson. He looked ahead.
Among the chaotic beasts, an expert rank 1 chaotic beast, which looked like a giant panther, was lying on top of the corpse he was there to retrieve. Aiden figured the expert rank 1 chaotic beast was making use of the worldly energy emanating from the corpse. It was most likely the strongest creature here and had bullied all the other rank 1 chaotic beasts here for this opportunity. The other creatures could only roam around the dead body.
"Is he going to make it?" the rescue team members thought. How was he gonna retrieve the corpse when an expert rank 1 chaotic beast was lying on it?
"Seven more seconds," Aiden thought. He had seven more seconds before the invisibility effect wore off.
"I need to create a diversion," Aiden thought.
Blobs of blood appeared before him. They turned into a crimson arrow.
"The arrow should narrowly miss the creature’s eye. The goal is not to attack it but to distract it. Besides, it’s not like my arrow can do any harm to an expert rank 1 chaotic beast.
After the arrow is launched, it will look towards this direction and see nothing. But it will still suspect the attack came from this direction and head here. I will use that opportunity to shift direction, grab the corpse into my storage bag and bolt off before the invisibility effect of the legendary rank 1 invisibility bracelet wears off."
Aiden launched the crimson arrow towards the creature laying on the corpse. As he intended, the arrow whizzed past the left eye of the creature narrowly and fell into the river.
The creature looked towards his direction. It did not see anything. However, a glint of anger flashed through its eyes. Who dared to attack it? Did they not know it was the overlord of this territory?
It crouched away from the corpse and roared angrily towards Aiden’s direction. However, it saw nothing. But, it still moved towards the direction the arrow had come from. The other creatures were about to take advantage of the opportunity to claim the corpse for themselves.
"Three seconds more," Aiden thought.
His figure shifted direction, bypassing the panda looking creature by a hair’s breadth. He arrived in front of the corpse before the other creatures could claim it for themselves.
Two seconds...
He narrowly closed his eyes and absorbed the blood essence of the corpse. He felt a very strong surge after absorbing the blood essence of the corpse.
"My power is still at the level of a beginner rank 1 warrior. But I doubt many beginner rank 1 warriors will be my match in a battle," Aiden theorised in a moment. "Anyway, just how much blood essence do I have to absorb to break through to the next level? Well, this is the path I chose, I need to be patient and trust it. My growth may be slow, but the results will be worth it."
He shook his head. This was no time for him to be having these thoughts.
Suddenly, the creatures saw a strange looking thing. This was Aiden’s storage bag. The strange looking thing was the only thing they saw. It was floating on top of the corpse. Suddenly, the corpse and the strange looking thing disappeared at the same time.
"One second," Aiden thought. He had done what he came here to do.
The crimson arrow which had fallen into the ocean turned into blobs of blood and returned into him. He flapped his wings and bolted off.
Just when he was midway towards the mountain the rescue team was on, the invisibility effect wore off. The creatures saw him.
Aiden did not stop. He was calm. He flapped his wings further.
Blobs of blood appeared before him and transformed into a hook edged crimson rope. Aiden swung the hook edge crimson rope towards the mountain peak. The hook attached itself to the mountain peak.
Aiden flapped his crimson wings and propelled himself further towards the mountain peak, using the kinetic energy generated from pulling himself towards the hook edged rope to hasten his speed of flight further. His figure arced through the air gracefully.
He landed before the shocked rescue team people. How did this guy pull this off? Was this really his first time in a pocket world? What sort of tactical ability was this? One mistake and he would have lost his life. But he succeeded.
Who was this Aiden Vhorn guy?
Aiden did not pay attention to their shocked expressions. "We need to move. The creatures are not too happy."
Everyone snapped out of their shock. They stared below.
The expert rank 1 panda looking creature was in the lead. Its eyes were bloodshot. Clearly, it wanted to settle the score with Aiden. It had realized Aiden was the one who launched that crimson arrow towards it. The other creatures followed.
Attacks ranging from lightning, fireballs, water blades, and others sliced through the air from below, headed towards the group standing on the mountain peak.
Aiden did not wait for the Norton and company to act. If they wanted to die, that was their wish. He would prioritise his survival above everything.
His hook edged crimson rope turned into blobs of blood and appeared before him. Aiden made the hook edged crimson rope longer. He threw the hook edged crimson rope towards a distance as his eyes narrowed. No one understood why he did that. He flapped his wings, and bolted off.
Everyone made use of their affinities to launch themselves into the atmosphere, following Aiden.
The flock of creatures followed behind them, led by the panda looking chaotic beast. The attacks of the creatures whizzed through the air. Aiden and company managed to evade the attacks narrowly.
However, with time, the intermediate, advanced and expert rank 1 creatures managed to close the distance between them. The large panda looking creature, whizzing across the mountain slope, was circling in a wind tornado.
Someone screamed. No, several people screamed. 10 members of the rescue team were absorbed into the wind tornado.
"Shit," Norton cursed.
"What are we gonna do?" Dahlia said.
"Relax. The gate will be shrinking any time soon. We’ve managed to contain what was causing the energy oversaturation into my storage bag. So, the gate should be shrinking into the vicinity where the corpse was," Aiden said as he evaded a water arc which sliced past his neck.
"You mean.. we have to head back to where you took the corpse from?" Dahlia said.
"How are we gonna do that?" Norton added, slashing backwards with his sword. A large arc of ice cleaved across, obliterating an advanced rank 1 creature that almost killed him. He spat out a mouthful of blood.
Aiden didn’t say anything. He narrowed his eyes.
Suddenly, a hook edged crimson rope whizzed through the air from another direction, headed towards him. He held the hooked edged crimson rope.
Everyone understood. He had planned this beforehand. This was why he threw the hook edged crimson rope towards a particular direction after landing on the mountain peak earlier. The other end of the hook edged crimson rope must have been dug firmly at the bank of the river.
The reason why he did not use the hook edged crimson rope to send them back to the river bank the moment he arrived on the mountain peak was because he wanted to lure all the creatures away from the place first.
This guy was too terrifying.
"Grab on," Aiden said.
The four remaining people, including Dahlia and Norton, grabbed the hook edged crimson rope.
The panda looking creature in the tornado whizzed towards Aiden. However, Aiden and company swung towards another direction of the mountain, attached to the hook edged crimson rope. Under Aiden’s will, the hook edged crimson rope arced them through the air, round about the mountain, towards the river bank, where the other hook end of the rope was firmly buried in the sand.
The gate was shrinking there.
Aiden’s hook edged crimson rope transformed into blobs of blood and returned into his body. The group of five went through the shrinking gate. The gate eventually turned into a dot and disappeared.
The gate to the special pocket world had been closed. And the one behind it, was someone no one would expect.
