Chapter 290: Chapter 290: Under the Gloom

The Twin Cities, Piltover’s Council Building.

Logan was sitting in Jayce’s office, eating pastries while waiting for Jayce and Mel. During that time, he looked over the documents on Jayce’s desk.

Jayce was the same as him. Just as Logan had pushed all of Zaun’s affairs onto Silco, Jayce had now pushed all family, trade, and political matters onto Mel.

Because of that, Jayce’s desk was filled entirely with experimental manuscripts, recording the research and inventions Jayce, Jinx, Viktor, Singed, and the others had been working on during this period.

Singed was attempting to combine shimmer with the Void, and on this point, Singed had discovered one key factor, shimmer seemed to have had a certain connection with Void creatures from the very beginning.

It was not merely because shimmer was a purple drug. Rather, the main elemental components in shimmer bore similarities to some of the elements Singed had extracted from Rek’Sai’s body. After thinking it over, Singed believed that Zaun’s underground geology had altered the underground creatures of Zaun.

After all, shimmer had been extracted from the bodies of those creatures. Because of that, Singed believed that if shimmer wanted to continue evolving, then the next step had to rely on Void creatures.

But on this point, Singed was worried about another problem, the enhanced shimmer, after having a large number of Void creature components added to it, might cause damage to the human body. It would be somewhat like... a weakened version of the Darkin?

Because of that, Singed was considering whether to conduct human experiments. For this reason, he had deliberately given his notes to Jayce, hoping Jayce would communicate with Mel and select volunteers from the death-row prisoners in Stillwater Hold, obtaining their consent through reduced sentences and a certain amount of compensation.

"This very clearly violates the Twin Cities’ current rules..." Logan put Singed’s report aside and thought with a slight headache. It was no wonder Jayce had placed this report at the very bottom.

Logan could imagine how troubled Jayce had been when he saw this report.

That guy’s moral fastidiousness was even stronger than Logan’s. Even Logan felt that using humans for experiments was inhumane, so there was no need to even mention Jayce.

"Forget it. I’ll let them worry about this. Why am I worrying over it? The trouble I’m carrying right now isn’t any smaller than theirs." Logan muttered this, then picked up another report.

This report had been sent back by Jax two days before Logan left for the Freljord.

In the report, Jax recorded two matters.

The first was that after Jax and his group arrived in Shurima, they first accompanied their guide, Taliyah, to her hometown. After Taliyah displayed her abilities, she told her people about her current work and identity. Because of this, her people made a request to Taliyah, hoping the tribe could receive help from the Twin Cities. Therefore, Taliyah hoped that the Twin Cities could accept her tribe. Her tribe was highly skilled in making clothes, weaving thread, and producing silk.

The second matter was that Jax’s group had discovered traces of Xerath. When they reached Sai Faraj, Karma sensed an extremely powerful arcane energy, one strong enough to destroy a nation or city-state. She immediately recognized that the other party was very likely Xerath. They were currently tracking Xerath, and by following Xerath’s trail, Jax believed they would be able to find Azir.

At the bottom of this report, Jayce had already signed his name, agreeing to the Twin Cities accepting Taliyah’s tribe.

Mm, just as mentioned earlier, if Logan was the power behind the scenes in Zaun, then Jayce was the power behind the scenes in Piltover.

After all, Piltover currently operated on hextech, and as the creator of hextech, Jayce’s wealth could no longer be measured in numbers. As long as Runeterra used hextech for even one more day, Jayce’s treasury would have an endless stream of money flowing into it.

Because of that, Jayce naturally had the authority to sign and make decisions.

The third report...

"Sarah?"

Logan looked at the third report. In this report, Sarah had written under two identities. In the first section, Sarah wrote the report as the head of Zaun’s navy. In the report, Sarah described Bilgewater’s current situation in detail, as well as how she had already subdued the pirates on the island. Her negotiations with Illaoi had also gone smoothly, successfully allowing the Buhru Isles and Bilgewater to no longer remain entangled with each other.

Because of this, Bilgewater had officially become an affiliated city-state of the Twin Cities. Sarah had arranged for a group of Zaunites to be stationed on the surrounding islands to help Bilgewater defend against sea monsters.

In the second section, Sarah had written as the ruler of Bilgewater, the Empress of the Sea.

In the report, she explained her deal with Illaoi and pointed out the crisis Bilgewater would face in the future. This crisis required help from the Twin Cities, because Bilgewater alone, even with Illaoi, the Truth Bearer of the Buhru, could not truly drive back the Black Mist that came during the Harrowing. They could only block it over the sea. Even so, many Bilgewater residents were still attacked by the Black Mist of the Harrowing.

Because of that, Sarah hoped the Twin Cities could establish a hextech stronghold in Bilgewater and use hextech magic barriers to resist the Harrowing. She knew this would require a large number of hextech gemstones and many resources. Because of that, she had not shamelessly used her identity as Zaun’s grand admiral to gain approval. Instead, she had applied for a transaction as the Empress of the Sea.

"Mm... the Harrowing..." Logan looked at the report, thought about the major event in the future, and realized that it indeed would not be too long before it arrived.

But the Harrowing was not that hard to deal with. Whether it was Mordekaiser or Viego, at most, they had the strength of demigods. If they were even more dangerous, then they were among the best of the demigods, powerful demigods.

But here was the question. No matter how powerful Viego and Mordekaiser were, could they possibly be stronger than Lissandra?

Of course that was impossible.

In terms of presence alone, Viego and Mordekaiser had already lost. After all, just in terms of how long they had lived, even if Viego and Mordekaiser’s ages were added together and multiplied by five, they still could not compare to Lissandra, let alone when it came to these two people’s motives. Mordekaiser was at least better. He was aiming to be a tyrant, and his return to Runeterra was for revenge. But Viego?

Viego... Forget it. Aside from being powerful, he really had no connection to having any kind of presence.

Because of that, Logan did not think Bilgewater’s Harrowing was any major issue.

To put it plainly, drag Thresh out and beat him up, and the Harrowing would settle down with him. Although the Black Mist was not produced by Thresh, Thresh had contributed greatly to the Black Mist’s spread. Viego was stupid but strong. Aside from loving Isolde, his spirit and will were not firm at all. For Thresh to coax and deceive him was as easy as eating and drinking.

Thinking of this, Logan felt like laughing.

Heh. I can’t beat Spirit Blossom Thresh, but can I really not beat Runeterra’s Thresh?

Just as he was thinking this, the door to Jayce’s office was suddenly pushed open.

Wearing a white formal outfit and tugging at his collar with one hand, Jayce strode in wearing leather shoes. He clearly froze when he saw Logan. In the next moment, he smiled. "Been waiting long?" freeweɓnøvel.com

"No, only a little while." Logan smiled and reached out to pick up the reports on the desk, waving them at Jayce. "And I read these for a bit, so time passed quickly."

Jayce walked to the desk, reached out, picked up a pastry from the tabletop, and put it in his mouth to chew. Then he half-sat on the desk and picked up the cup on the table, drinking water in large gulps.

"I’m exhausted. Renata plans to bring a large number of minotaur clans from Noxus into the Twin Cities. Because of that, Mel and I were just negotiating with the people from Noxus." Looking at Logan, Jayce told him what he had just been doing.

"How’s the situation?" Logan asked Jayce.

"About what you’d expect. Noxus definitely doesn’t want to transfer the minotaur clans to our side, but they also can’t openly fall out with us right now. Swain didn’t show up at all. He sent an envoy instead, but that Noxian minister didn’t make things difficult for us either." Jayce thought for a moment, then continued, "None of the conditions he raised were excessive. If I put myself in Noxus’s place, of course I wouldn’t want to hand the minotaur clans over to someone else either."

"Minotaurs are a powerful race. Up to now, they may be the only minotaur race left. Vastaya don’t count. Although the Vastaya are also partly human and partly beast, their situation is special. To put it plainly, they are mixed-blood beings born from magic. Minotaurs are different. They can’t combine with humans," Jayce added.

Minotaurs were a race that had gradually disappeared from history after humanity’s rise, just like the yetis, withdrawing from Runeterra’s stage.

A very long time ago, there had been all kinds of creatures on Runeterra. But because humans had incredibly powerful adaptability and reproduced extremely quickly, after humanity walked out of the Freljord, became active across Runeterra, and slowly became the masters of Runeterra, the living space of those ancient creatures and races was squeezed tighter and tighter. Slowly, they went extinct across Runeterra.

During the War of the Three Sisters, Lissandra had led humanity against the coalition of the Old Ways led by Volibear. Of course, the Old Ways had not only included demigods. They had also included all kinds of strange and wondrous beings.

As for why minotaurs had survived until now, it was because as a herbivorous race, they somehow had no strict requirements for their living environment. At the same time, they also possessed immensely powerful combat ability. On top of that, because of their naturally simple and honest nature, this race avoided human beings whenever possible unless there was no other choice.

And every minotaur was a brave and skilled warrior, a naturally powerful vanguard.

To put it this way, when Demacia trained the Dauntless Vanguard, they first had to choose young soldiers of the right age and with talent from among hundreds of thousands of citizens. Then those soldiers had to go through a second round of selection, undergo all kinds of tempering and tests, and only after that could they become part of the Dauntless Vanguard.

For each member of the Dauntless Vanguard, the resources and time Demacia spent were enormous. But minotaurs?

As long as they were born and grew up healthy, then once they put on armor and were given a massive weapon, on the battlefield, they were an enhanced version of the Dauntless Vanguard.

Because of that, Noxus naturally did not want to let such a powerful race leave the boundaries of its own territory.

This race was very easy to control. Give them a place to live and some food, and they would risk their lives for you. Such a simple, powerful, and honest race, who would not like them?

And it was not strange for Noxus to resist this matter. Although Noxus and the Twin Cities were currently partners, interests were... well, that was how things were.

"In short, the matter has already been settled. The minotaur tribes will migrate from the Noxian plains to the mountains beside Piltover and become our neighbors." Jayce shrugged, then spoke.

"Just this one thing?"

"Not just that. Of course there are plenty of other things to handle. Otherwise, why would Mel have called me over?" Jayce rolled his eyes. Speaking of this, he became a little angry. Looking at Logan, he continued,

"You bastard. Something like this should obviously be handled by you. You weren’t there for the League’s affairs, and when I sent Silco and Mel, they had other matters to deal with too. So I was forced to show up, all right? Who do you think I went because of? Do you think I wanted to go?"

"Haha, calm down." Logan laughed dryly and reached out to pick up a pastry, handing it to Jayce.

Jayce took it, bit into it, and continued in an annoyed tone, "So how are things going on your end?"

"They’re just about getting on the right track. A major battle could break out at any moment," Logan thought for a moment, then said.

Sighing, Logan continued, "Wasn’t there a Freljordian who came to visit our school some time ago? That woman is Nunu’s mother. Nunu has already obtained the power that Lissandra and I wanted. Next, it depends on when he can control that power."

"When the time comes, are you going to have Jax and the others come back? I read that report. Shurima has a lot of trouble right now too, doesn’t it?" Jayce thought for a moment and said.

He lowered his body, his broad palm braced against the desk, then continued, "I really don’t know when we’ll be able to truly rest. You know, after seeing you get married, I wanted to get married too. But Mel and I looked at our schedules, damn it, the two of us can’t squeeze out any time to get married at all."

"Not to mention, Mel is still worried about her mother." Jayce became somewhat melancholy. "I don’t even know where my mother-in-law went. She’s like... like she vanished into thin air. Last time, Mel asked Janna to help find her mother, but Janna said she couldn’t sense her." ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Logan was somewhat helpless too. When he transmigrated here, he had guessed that Ambessa might become a champion in the Rift, and that had indeed been the case. As someone who had received so much screen time in the main series of Arcane, she had later, just as the Brazilian leaker revealed, become League of Legends’ 169th champion.

But then Logan had transmigrated over. As for what Ambessa went through in the future timeline after Arcane, that was a complete mystery!

"Don’t worry too much. Ambessa won’t be in trouble. Maybe she’s like me and accidentally went to another world." After thinking for a moment, Logan said this to Jayce.

"I’m not that concerned about her. She doesn’t look like a good person." Jayce spoke. "I just feel like we’ve really been too busy during this period. Everyone is tense all the time. If this continues, it won’t be good."

"Logan, when do you think all of this will finally end?"

Logan fell silent.

He really wanted to tell Jayce that all of this had only just begun, but looking at the dark circles under Jayce’s eyes, the words changed before they reached his mouth.

"Soon. It won’t be long before everything is over."

Beneath the gloom...

Everything had only just begun.

But he would pierce through that gloom.

Whether it was the Void or the Aspects, demigods or demons.

They could all go to hell.
