Chapter 20: Chapter 20 You’ve changed though.

By now, Ivy had started feeling strong kicks in her stomach.

She paused slightly, placing a hand over it.

"Oh... you’re hungry," she murmured softly, a rare warmth slipping into her voice. "Alright, Mommy will get us something to eat."

For the first time that day...

She decided to treat herself.

---

Inside the same building was a high-end restaurant where a single plate could cost up to a hundred thousand dollars.

Normally, she wouldn’t even consider stepping inside.

But today...

She needed it. freewebnøvel.coɱ

She walked in without hesitation.

Once seated, she picked up the menu, scanned it briefly, then handed it back.

"I want everything on your menu," she said calmly. "Just portions suitable for one person."

The waiter, a young man, blinked in surprise but quickly nodded with a professional smile.

"Of course, ma’am."

Soon, dish after dish was placed before her—

Fried rice, spicy shrimp—her favorite—fresh salads, roasted chicken, crispy chips, hamburgers, rich chicken soup, fish soup with white rice, creamy macaroni...

The table filled quickly.

Ivy ate slowly but steadily until she was finally full, a rare sense of satisfaction settling in her chest.

Then she ordered takeout.

And not just for herself.

"Five extra portions of each," she added.

Once the apocalypse began, places like this would be destroyed.

She wouldn’t get to taste these dishes again—

Especially the spicy shrimp.

So she stored them.

Carefully.

"How much is my bill?" Ivy asked, sipping her orange juice.

"The total is two thousand dollars, ma’am," the waiter replied. "Will you be paying with cash or transfer?"

"Transfer."

She paid immediately and stood up.

---

Outside, she placed the takeaway bags into her car.

But instead of driving home...

She paused.

Her thoughts drifted.

Did she really need everything she had just ordered?

She already had enough food stored to last ten years or even more.

Spending recklessly now wasn’t wise.

There were only a few days left until the apocalypse.

And once the money was gone...

That was it.

She wouldn’t be able to get more of the system was to bring out a list of things she should buy again.

Moments later, Ivy walked back into the supermarket.

"I’d like to reduce my order to five million dollars," she said calmly. "Please process a refund of the remaining five million."

The staff exchanged looks.

Then—

"Are you broke now, ma’am?" a customer nearby mocked with a smirk. "Regretting your decision already? Or are the real owners of the money asking for it back?"

"I saw how you wanted to buy the whole store," another added. "And now you can’t even afford half?"

Soft laughter broke out among the staff, though some tried to suppress it. But for the two customers...they laughed out loud.

One of the sales representatives then stepped forward, forcing a professional tone.

"I’m sorry, ma’am, but once payment has been made, it cannot be reversed," she said. "Unless the goods are damaged or expired, we do not offer refunds."

She sighed slightly.

"This supermarket values money above all else. Once it enters the account... it doesn’t leave. Even the manager won’t be able to help you."

Ivy let out a small scoff.

Fools! In the apocalypse...Money would become nothing more than useless paper.

Strength....That was what would truly matter.

"You shouldn’t speak to a paying customer like that," A cold voice came from the right hand side of the supermarket prompting Ivy, the customers mocking her and the sales rep to turn their gaze towards the direction. "Especially one who just transferred ten million dollars into your account."

He was a young man definitely in his thirties dressed in black office suit. He had a dirty blonde hair with blue ocean eyes. As he spoke..his dimples were visible making Ivy wondered how deep they’d be if he actually smiled.

Do I know him though? It looks like I know him? Ivy thought inwardly as she swallowed hard...her gaze fixed on the young man till he was standing beside her now.

The sales rep already stiffened as they recognized who he was.

"Sir, we didn’t mean...."

"Then fix it," he cut in coldly. "Refund the entire ten million. I’ll pay you the ten million dollars for the goods she wants," he said calmly.

Silence fell again while shock ran down Ivy’s spine.

He seriously wants to pay?! Just like that?!

The staff quickly lowered their heads, their earlier arrogance completely gone.

Ivy, however, wasn’t paying attention to them anymore.

Her eyes filled with shock were still locked on him, trying to remember where she knows him from.

"Y..you don’t have to do that sir.." she finally managed to say the moment blood started flowing to her brains again.

But the man didn’t even reply her, his gaze fixed on the sales rep who was handling the transaction.

Ivy’s phone then vibrated after a few minutes.

$10,000,000 credited.

Ivy glanced at the notification before looking back at the man.

"Y..y...you.."

"Just say thank you. I’m guessing that’s the right words." The man voiced out with a smile which showcased his dimples that could melt even the strongest heart. "You’ve changed though. You don’t even recognize me," he said quietly.

Ivy froze.

Her eyes snapped up to meet his.

What? He knows me? No wonder his face looks familiar but where the hell do I know him from?!
