Chapter 11: Chapter 11 Thirty thousand dollars loan

Just then an idea struck Ivy.

Since the world was coming to an end...

Money, cars, houses would mean nothing to anyone. And wealth wouldn’t be able to save anyone once the apocalypse started.

If I collect a loan...I won’t have to pay it back again. Since money would be useless after the apocalypse, then it’s better I borrow some to fund my base. Ivy thought with an excited expression on her face.

She then dialed a number on her phone immediately which rang once, then twice before a feminine voice voiced out.

"Hello. How can we assist you today, sir or ma’am?"

"Yes, hello," Ivy replied calmly, her tone steady but carrying quiet urgency. "I want to put a house on lease. I need thirty thousand dollars, and I’ll repay fifty thousand within ten days."

Even if money was going to be useless after the apocalypse...the loan company wouldn’t give her a loan if they knew she’d never be able to pay back. Besides, she still needed something to put down and there was no better option than her house.

There was a brief pause on the line.

Then the woman spoke again, this time more cautiously.

"Are you certain about that, ma’am? A hundred percent interest within ten days is very unusual.

"I’m certain."

"You’ll need to come to our office for verification and documentation." the woman added.

"I understand," Ivy said without hesitation. "I’ll be there immediately."

"Alright. We’ll be expecting you."

The call ended.

Ivy lowered her phone slowly, her expression unreadable.

She wanted Adrian and his mistress as well as their ten-year-old son to also suffer the same one she did. Not having a roof over their head in the apocalypse.

But even before the apocalypse...once the ten days came... the loan sharks would start chasing Adrian and his family and with that... Adrian would be forced to move out from the house with his mistress and son. And once the apocalypse started... they’d die a horrible death, as the loan sharks would have chased them away.

For a moment, silence hung around her like a heavy veil.

"Mommy?"

A soft voice broke through her thoughts.

Ivy turned.

Lila and Aria stood a few steps away, both watching her carefully.

Lila tilted her head. "Are you going somewhere?"

Aria didn’t speak at first, but her eyes searched Ivy’s face as if trying to read what she wasn’t saying.

Ivy’s expression softened instantly.

She crouched down in front of them.

"No sweethearts," she said gently, brushing Lila’s hair aside. "Not without you."

Lila blinked. "Huh?"

"We’re going out together," Ivy added with a faint smile. "Then we’ll come back together too."

Aria’s shoulders relaxed slightly. "Where are we going, Mommy?"

"Somewhere I need to handle something important," Ivy said carefully. "After that, I’ll buy you whatever you want, okay?"

Lila’s eyes brightened immediately. "Even the princess dolls?"

Ivy nodded. "Even more than that."

That was enough to dissolve the tension in the little girl’s face.

---

Not long after, Ivy guided both girls out of the shelter.

She locked it using the system’s silent command, ensuring no one could enter or tamper with their space.

The car stood waiting outside.

Ivy buckled both children into the back seat herself, double-checking their seatbelts with practiced care.

"Stay close to each other," she reminded softly. "And don’t open the door for anyone."

"Yes, Mommy," they answered in unison.

The car door shut.

And Ivy exhaled once before starting the engine.

---

The drive through the city felt different today.

The streets were busier, yet something about them felt... wrong as more people wore masks.

Some walked sluggishly, as though their strength was fading.

Others coughed harshly on sidewalks, ignored by passersby.

Ivy’s grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly.

She had seen this before.

In her past life, this was the beginning.

The flu.

The warning before everything collapsed.

Her eyes darkened for a brief second.

Then she glanced at the rearview mirror.

Lila was humming softly while hugging a small snack bag. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

Aria sat quietly beside her, watching the streets with cautious curiosity.

Ivy’s expression softened again.

"Put on the face masks before we get off the car." She said as three face masks appeared on her lap. She passed two to Aria and Lila, who took them immediately and did as they were told.

---

Soon, the car pulled up in front of a modest but well-guarded building.

A sign read:

PRIVATE FINANCIAL SERVICES

Two men stood at the entrance, scanning her car as she parked.

Ivy stepped out first.

Then she opened the back door and gently helped her daughters down.

Lila clung slightly to her hand.

"Mommy, where’s this place?"

Oh my goodness. They’re going to kill me with questions at this rate. Ivy thought as she let out a light chuckle.

"Mommy is here for something important," Ivy said softly. "Something that’ll make us live perfect lives."

Aria looked up at the building. "It looks serious."

Ivy gave a faint smile. "It is."

She held both their hands and walked forward.

---

Inside, the atmosphere was colder.

Neat desks.

Sharp eyes behind polished counters.

And silence that felt intentional.

A woman from earlier stood up immediately.

"Ma’am Ivy Brooks?" she asked professionally.

"Yes."

"Please follow me. Our manager is waiting."

Ivy nodded once.

She knelt briefly in front of her daughters.

"Stay right here with the assistant, okay? Mommy will be back in a few minutes."

Lila frowned instantly.

"I’m just in the next room," Ivy noticing assured her gently, touching her cheek. "You’ll still see me."

Aria hesitated... then nodded.

"We’ll wait."

"Good girls."

Ivy stood and followed the woman into a private office.

The door closed behind her.

---

The room was quiet, expensive-looking, and intimidating.

A middle-aged man sat behind a desk, fingers interlocked.

He studied her for a moment before speaking.

"So," he said slowly, "you’re the one requesting thirty thousand dollars... with a repayment of fifty thousand in ten days."

"Yes," Ivy replied calmly.

No hesitation.

No fear.

Just certainty.

The man leaned back slightly.

"That kind of confidence is rare... or reckless."

"It’s necessary," Ivy said simply.

A faint silence followed.

Then the man smiled faintly.

"Alright then. Let’s proceed."

He slid documents across the table.

Ivy signed without delay.

One by one.

Clean strokes.

No trembling.

No doubt.

When she finished, she stood.

"That’s all?"

"For now," the man said. "Funds will be transferred immediately."

_____

Outside the office, her phone buzzed.

A notification lit up the screen.

TRANSFER COMPLETE: $30,000

A slow breath left Ivy’s lips as she walked back to the waiting area.

Lila spotted her first.

"Mommy!"

The little girl ran into her arms immediately.

Aria followed more calmly, but her relief was visible.

"You’re back," Aria said softly.

"I said I would be," Ivy replied.

---

Once outside the building, Ivy opened her car door. Her work here was done afterall.

"Let’s go shopping," she said lightly.

Lila’s eyes lit up instantly. "Toys?"

"Everything I promised," Ivy said.

Aria studied her mother quietly but didn’t question further.

The car started again.

And as they drove off, Ivy’s gaze sharpened slightly.

Because this money... was just the beginning.

And the world she knew was already starting to break.
