Chapter 83: Lieutenant’s Letter
Max spent the rest of the four hours shopping and improving their state of living. Enzo was out for school and Auntie Sarah was busy managing her business, so he had the freedom to do whatever he wanted.
When he was finished, it was exactly 11pm. His stomach grumbled, so he ate first.
He walked for half an hour until he felt his stomach had digested the food, conveying he could lay in the gaming pod for twelve hours straight.
Once he logged in, eight hours had passed and the morning glow glimmered through the room Max was in.
Max opened his eyes and surveyed around. He detected no presence observing him and he rested for a while.
He pondered.
As much as possible, I must proceed to the capital city and deliver the rewards.
But... I’ve already become a Radiant Conclave, there’s no rush for me. I must wait until the Greater Demon and his legion had fully disappeared in the Mirefall Province first.
On the meantime, I should increase my skills’ proficiency.
I don’t mind having to wait for a month or two.
Max didn’t have trouble deciding on his plan for the next two months.
It equaled to one month in real world’s time, so Max believed he had plenty enough time.
The first major world event would occur a year in the real world’s time.
Max aimed to reach B-rank by then, but with his pace, he wanted to aim higher—A-rank, at least.
Max was lost in his thoughts when he was woken by the knock on his door.
He said, "Come in."
A soldier entered and bowed towards him.
He politely said, "Lieutenant had ordered me to be your assistant during your stay in the Town."
"I see."
Max thought the soldier who led him from the gate to the Garrison Hall to be his assistant.
Max didn’t care.
He glanced at the soldier and said, "Guard outside. Only disturb me when there’s an important mission from the Lieutenant."
"Understood." The soldier bowed deeply and left.
Max finally stood up and stretched his limbs.
Now, he planned to increase his legacy passive skills’ proficiency first.
He sat in the lost position and meditated.
Meditation was the simplest way of increasing the passive skills for the mage corps...
...
For the rest of the week, Max was undisturbed in the room.
Sergeant had not updated him at all. freeweɓnøvel.com
Max was not in a rush.
It would take time to get rid of a demon with the peak Greater Demon rank who led his legion to invade the province.
He was deeply focused on increasing his legacy passive skills.
Meditation was the basic way of increasing his skills’ proficiency.
The reason was simple—visualization and comprehension.
With meditation, he could concentrate in comprehending and visualizing the Summoning Mastery and Mana link, enabling him to advance his progress in increasing their proficiency.
For a week, he successfully managed to elevate them, which actually took sometime.
It wasn’t surprising. The legacy passive skills were at C-rank. It was also specialized.
[Summoning Mastery (Advanced)
You can optimize mana distribution across your multiple knights.
Effects:
+20% Knight HP
+20% Knight Damage]
[Mana Link (Advanced)
Multiple active knights can share mana flow efficiently.
Effect:
Upkeep Cost Reduction: 20%]
Max was satisfied, not only on the effects on the Summoning Master at the advance proficiency level, but also at the Mana Link.
It only meant the the cost of maintaining his active knights were reduced.
Since Max had multiple active knights, he was meticulous in distributing his mana points.
However, there were still two proficiency level yet.
For now, he had decided to increase the proficiency of all his legacy active skills.
The other active skills, the evolved version of his arcane caster’s skills, were at Advance level proficiency, so he didn’t worry about them for now.
Max stood up and was about to trigger the Summon Radiant Knight, when the soldier knocked.
Max finally realized it has been a week since there was news from the Sergeant.
He was relieved that the soldier was finally about to report him.
"Come in."
The soldier entered and bowed.
He said, "Earlier, I left my post due to the order of the Sergeant. I didn’t inform you. I deeply apologized."
Max nodded. "Go on."
"The Sergeant wanted me to inform you that there was no invasion in the Greyfen Village for a week. It also included the neighboring settlements. The demons’ appearance had just disappeared after their ambush.
However, Sergeant wanted me to pass a message, coming from Lieutenant Garrick."
The soldier raised a letter.
Max flicked his arm and a lightweave thread grabbed the letter. He pulled it with no physical movement while the soldier had just realized the letter disappeared into his hand.
The soldier was lost for words. He was deeply shocked.
He imagined himself being strangled by the lightweave thread.
He definitely would fail to react.
He dazed at Max, who opened the letter and read it.
[Dear Max,
I’m sorry for what you’ve gone through. I want to know the precise details of what had happened, but your next destination will definitely be the capital city.
We have found the remains of Archmage Arlen and we’ve already informed his family.
His burial has been decided—a week and the Pope will personally bless him. The day this letter arrive, he might already be buried. Visit his family and had them to lead you on his cemetery. They were already aware of your identity.
As for Blade Saint Branna... there’s no remains from her. Even her blood might have been incinerated from the Hellfire. However, we’ve already informed her contribution and the Imperial Family had already decided to include her in the national hero momentum.
As for you, Maximus Grant, I’ve already forwarded your contribution to the Imperial family.
Once you’ve arrived in the capital, expect for an Imperial Summon.
Prepare yourself. Your battle against the demons you’ve encountered wouldn’t end yet.]
Max’s eyes widened when he read the Imperial Summon.
His eyes sparkled just thinking of the possible rewards he’d obtain...
