Chapter 59: [Bonus Chapter] Home (4)

"I am not going to take my clothes off in front of you," Aurora flat out denied what she thought he had in mind. She wasn’t going to do any of those things just because he had helped her and welcomed her into his home. What kind of woman did he think she was?

"In front of me? What a wild assumption. I merely meant you would allow Mari to help you as you bathe. You have such long hair and her services of helping you to wash and brush would be helpful. How improper of you to suggest otherwise Aurora."

Aurora didn’t believe his words and knew that he was playing with her. "I want to take that bath now so could you be so kind as to leave the room while I do that?"

"Are the dresses in there to your liking or should I send someone out to buy some more? I’ve heard women don’t like wearing old styles," Vincent started walking over to the closest to open it and look at the clothes she had inside.

"Those are more than enough. I didn’t bring much money to spend on clothing-"

Vincent’s laughter interrupted her sentence. "Why on earth are you talking about money Aurora? I am the one offering to buy you more clothes if you want." He wanted her to talk about everything she wanted so that he could spoil her.

It didn’t feel right to Aurora to have him spend his money on her. She didn’t know how much the dresses would cost here and she was more than happy with the ones she currently had. "I don’t need any more dresses." frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Vincent knew she wouldn’t be truthful when it came to things she needed or wanted to buy. He wasn’t short of money like she thought and the things she needed wouldn’t hurt his pockets. He made a mental note to send someone to buy dresses and have them placed in her bedroom later while she would be away. "Breakfast is normally served in a few minutes but I will have it on hold till you are finished. I will leave before you give me another lecture."

Aurora watched him leave the room and close the door on his way out. She didn’t know what to make of that man other than him being sly.

"Many of the women here would kill to be in your shoes. I’m surprised you didn’t take the opportunity to have him buy what you need," Mari said now that Vincent was gone. He had always been kind and sometimes paid her more than he needed to. Now that his rumored lover was back, it was obvious he was looking forward to spoiling her but the woman in question had other plans.

"I don’t want him to waste money and I am not certain about our relationship or friendship to have him spending money on me. It doesn’t feel right," Aurora replied. Just because he was kindly offering did not mean she had to take.

Mari smiled because Aurora would soon learn Vincent did whatever he wanted and if he had it in his mind to buy her whatever he thought suited her, those things would arrive in Aurora’s room in no time. "I will start the bath. There’s a chair inside for you to sit and wait. If you are really shy, I can close my eyes and keep them close while I wash your hair. I really want to be the best maid."

"Okay," Aurora agreed. She could use this time alone with Mari to learn about Vincent’s home and wherever it was located. Aurora followed Mari into the bathroom and sat in a chair while Mari prepared everything. "How many people live here with Vincent?"

Mari turned on the water and answered, "No one. His family members have homes of their own and his brother just moved out a few years ago."

"Brother?" Aurora questioned curiously about Vincent’s family. Why was he here all alone?

"Oh, right. Vincent told me you don’t remember anything about your previous stay here. He has a young brother named Victor Lawerance. You will enjoy his company because he is quite lovely. He moved five houses down away from Vincent."

"This place, is it a big town or close community?"

Mari carefully placed rose petals in the water as she spoke about her home. "I’m told it’s no different from human towns. I have never seen one before. We have dress shops, bakeries, and other shops you would have back home. Though we are wolves, our society is a lot like that of humans. This is why I really want to do a good job because my family is almost at the bottom of the social life here. Every penny counts for me."

"What do your parents do?" If Aurora was going to spend a lot of time with Mari since the young girl was her personal maid, it was best to get to know a lot about her. "They collect wood for many of the households to burn when it gets too cold. It doesn’t bring in a lot of money but it kept my siblings and me fed. It’s a dangerous job because it means they have to go outside the gates to get wood."

"Shouldn’t they be paid more money since it is so dangerous?" It didn’t make any sense in Aurora’s opinion.

"Those who go outside the gates are paid a lot of money for the items they bring back but the people who hire my parents take advantage of them and pay them less. I’ve been saving up my payments from Vincent so that they could take it easy with going outside the gates. I have three younger siblings I want to take care of so that my parents can rest. So please, allow me to do whatever you need. Oops," Mari chuckled when she almost placed too many petals in the water. "Do you have any siblings?"

"I do."
