Chapter 57: [Bonus Chapter] Home (2)
In no time, Aurora had fallen asleep on Vincent’s back. He knew she was tired but Aurora kept denying it until her words became silent and her breathing slowed down. Why was it so hard for her to admit she was tired and why did she have to fight the sleep? Vincent only saw small children doing this. He chuckled because Aurora’s stubbornness was still there.
Vincent returned to his home after an hour’s walk with Aurora asleep on his back. Normally, it would’ve taken him less time but he didn’t want to wake her as she needed the rest. He entered the large gates meant to keep unwanted pests outside of the community. Particularly vampires and humans who hunted werewolves.
As it was a night with a full moon, many of the wolves were out to enjoy its power. To avoid waking up Aurora, he avoided going through the festivities and opted to go around the sides. Those who saw him, Vincent immediately told them not to approach him. Being what many called the alpha of the wolves, Vincent lived in a big house in the center of the community.
"Vincent-"
"Keep watch on the gates and do not get drunk like last time or I’ll hang you up as a warning to outsiders," Vincent said before entering his home. He trusted Derek with a lot of tasks but on nights like this when there was a lot of alcohol, the man could barely control himself.
Derek gulped playing with the collar of his shirt. With Vincent being gone for the night, he thought there was the chance he would be able to party and have a few drinks with his wife. So much for that fun. "Why the hell didn’t he stay out much longer? Why the hell was I even around his home? Am I stupid?"
Seeing the woman on Vincent’s back, Derek knew he had to warn the others to stay away from Vincent’s home if they didn’t want to see his bad side. "Oh, how many heartbroken women will there be tonight?" Many never believed they would ever see Aurora here again. "It would be best not to let his brother find out she is here. He doesn’t listen to Vincent," Derek muttered going back to the gate as Vincent told him to do. frёeωebɳovel.com
Vincent had heard every word which left Derek’s mouth and he would like it if Derek and everyone else could leave those foolish conversations at the door now that Aurora was back here. He made it very clear he was not interested in the women here and that they should use their time to look for their actual partner. His brother was another story.
He took careful steps up the stairs leading to a room Aurora used in the past. It was on the opposite side of where his room was but he didn’t mind it. At night, they always found their way in the kitchen and spent a lot of time there. Vincent opened the room he had not entered in a long time and found nothing to be out of place. Everything remained as it was when she was last here. Even the dried-up plants and flowers.
"Welcome home," he told the sleeping woman who did not hear him. Vincent sat on the bed and released Aurora so that she could gently fall back onto the comfortable bed. He stretched his body to relieve the tension from carrying her so long and placed her bag on a table beside her bed.
He was curious about the things she took with her to run away and wondered where she was going if he had not shown up. However, Vincent knew it would be rude to look into her personal items and she would never forgive him if she found out.
They were starting over right now and he didn’t want to do anything to make her not trust him. Vincent just hoped she would get back the memories of the two of them quickly after he spent so much time watching her from afar
He stood up and rearranged her body so that she wouldn’t sleep in an uncomfortable position and then started to leave the room. If he stayed any longer, he might receive a lesson from her tomorrow about being a proper man. He took one final glance at her sleeping figure drinking in the image that she was back here once again. Vincent closed the door before leaving downstairs to talk with someone he had sensed walking into his home.
"What is the situation out there?" Vincent questioned one of his subordinates, Jane. She was one of the wolves who had gone to the town with him to help find Aurora. His last order was to watch how far the men Minnie hired had reached.
"They haven’t made it anywhere near our location and won’t pass our way because they are heading east. They must think she’s traveling to a nearby village to hide. I have word from one of our spies that the son was rushed back home because of an injury. They are also looking for the culprit. Did you..." Jane trailed off knowing the short temper Vincent sometime’s had and how much pain the young man had to be in if Vincent was the one who hit him.
"Why am I always being accused of hurting someone?" Vincent innocently replied picking up an apple from a fruit basket as a treat on his way to look out the window at the other wolves having fun just like the people at the festival. Some of them had shifted into a wolf, a rare ability for those who had a deeper connection with their other side.
Jane didn’t buy his act and knew Vincent must’ve done something. He left for only one night and now he had a big target on his head. "Because it’s always you. Were you the one that hit him?"
"No, it was his sister. I only kicked him when he started to wake up," Vincent grinned, taking a big bite out of the shiny red apple.
