Chapter 48: Harvest moon festival (2)
Aurora understood right away that Minne had set up for someone to come take her away and Duncan was in on it. Why wouldn’t he? She knew the butler was also one of Minnie’s eyes and ears in the home when she was away. She apologized to Duncan because she had to protect herself and get out of the prison she called home.
Before the two people behind her could grab her hand and Duncan turned around after hearing her apology, Aurora raised her hand at a couple of plants placed in the home and made them grow. She wasn’t great at it but she had been practicing a couple of tricks in her room to help her out for this occasion.
She looked behind her to find the two men who were following her, startled by the plants growing at a rapid rate but Duncan was not phased by it. Clearly, he knew or had seen what she could do before this. Taking an opportunity with the men distracted, she slipped away before Duncan could grab her and started to run to her room. Her plan was to run to her bedroom, collect the bag, and go out through the window. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"You fools! Stop standing there and go grab her!" Duncan yelled scolding the men. It was a good thing that after tonight they’ll be killed because of what they have seen happening. "She’s heading to her bedroom. That’s the only way she’ll get out now."
Aurora continued running, hearing Duncan’s yelling in the background. The shoes and dress she wore were not made for running but she had to push herself harder if she wanted to get away. She tried to make more plants grow as she ran by but it wouldn’t work most likely because she was not focusing properly.
Aurora had no time to make any mistakes when she entered the room and proceeded to lock her door. One slip up and they’ll drag her to wherever they want to take her. After locking the door, she immediately went for the bag she had packed, and then climbed out her window. She almost slipped when someone pounded on her door to break it down.
"You got this. Move quickly but don’t slip," she told herself putting one foot out the window then another. Aurora was used to sneaking out her window, but the situation made her panic and overthink what to do. She tried her best to remain calm and move further to the vines she needed to climb down. She focused less on the men trying to break into her room and more on reaching the vines. "Got it," she beamed, grabbing the vines.
Aurora dropped her bag to the ground and started to climb down as fast as she could. She was halfway down when she heard the door to her room burst open.
"Fuck! She started climbing down already. That butler should’ve given us the key," she heard one of them speak as she started to go down faster.
"He’s already down there. Let’s go down to help him." freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
’I need to jump,’ Aurora thought and did it without thinking too much about it.
"Oh," she groaned as her body connected to the ground. There was a sharp pain in her hand because of how she fell but she ignored it and picked up her bag to start running.
It was just in time as Duncan had reached under her window. Aurora ran towards the best place she knew she could use to escape, the garden. Out of the four people, she was the one in it the most and knew how to navigate her way out of it.
"Get her and drag her back out of there now!" Duncan ordered the two men. He had a pain in his knee and could not chase after her as the two other men could. If he lost Aurora, Minnie would never forgive him. He had no idea she had a few of her abilities back and he figured neither did Minnie. If they did, the girl would’ve been locked away earlier. If these two men failed him, Duncan would kill them right now.
Aurora entered deep into the garden with tall bushes and trees. She stopped for a moment to focus on the open trail behind her that was covered by the bushes and trees. Her hands shook with fear as she calmed her breath and thought of making the bushes grow. It started off slower than she would’ve liked but at least it was working. She then continued to run towards the gate she needed to climb over.
"Stop! You are not allowed to leave," the house guards told her when she reached the gate. Minnie had positioned them at every corner just in case Duncan had failed her. "Please do not run away. Someone will come to get you."
Aurora’s shoulders dropped knowing she had failed and there was no escape from this. She wasn’t skilled enough yet to use her abilities to help her escape.
"I don’t want to stay here. Please just let me go," she muttered, not loud enough for the guards to hear. The men chasing her were getting closer now the guards had slowed her down. She wished for a moment the guards would all just disappear so that she could leave.
Just when she believed all hope was lost, a small light appeared in the garden right in front of Aurora. The guards became alert, taken aback by what was happening. They were just told to not let Aurora leave and never speak of it, but they were not told of the things happening now.
Aurora stood in awe of the light which shone brightly in front of her face with many different colors. She didn’t know what possessed her to do it, but she slowly reached her hand up and touched it with one finger. As soon as she touched it, Aurora disappeared from the garden leaving the guards confused.
Away from the Hamilton home inside the forbidden forest, a woman stood at a large tree in the middle of a lake, looking at wishes lighting up the leaves. She was surprised to hear a wish from someone she knew but hadn’t seen in years. "Welcome back Aurora."
