Chapter 298: Lesson (3)
Samuel touched his aching neck he was certain was bruised thanks to the way he was just manhandled. He already felt sorry for not helping Aurora run away in the past so why was this being brought up now? Aurora did not seem angry with him so why was this man angry? ’All he wants to do is intimate me,’ Samuel thought.
Samuel was weak now with no one to fight beside him to kill everyone who were disrespecting him but he would rise and be able to take down even a werewolf. He created a list of names in his head for the people he would get back at once he was back to his former glory. Vincent, Timothy, and Regina were on that list.
Timothy returned confused by Samuel panting on the floor but Vincent looked calm. It was a bit scary how Vincent could look so calm but he was most likely fueling ont he inside. Thanks to Regina, he had the backstory of why Vincent would dislike Samuel. "A carriage is waiting for you on the outside to take you. That money I gave you is your first allowance. Spend it wisely as I am not sending more for a while."
"After years of being friends I expected you would have treated me better than this but I see you are showing off for the man next to you," Samuel laughed at Timothy as he stood up.
"Samuel, we were hardly friends. We were around each other because of our fathers. I tolerated you because our families expected we’d be on good terms so we could be businesses partners in the future. I came around often because I liked your sister and not wanting to tell anyone, I used you to be around her. I will say that if the old Samuel who used to care about his sister returns, then I would care for you," Timothy said.
He found the Samuel who would talk about warding men away from his sister and dream of being in the castle as a knight to be pleasant to be around. It disliked the Samuel who became wrapped up in business and taking after his father. Whoever had pulled Samuel away from his dream to be a knight had ruined him and the relationship he once had with Regina because he started to view her as competition.
"That’s still me," Samuel yelled at the top of his lungs. "I still care for Regina which was why I was trying my best to get Minnie away from controlling everything but Regina was so focused on helping Aurora."
"Oh right. You were caring for Regina by offering her as a deal to men if they aided you in going up against your grandmother. I am aware that you were in on her being married to Gilbert. A nasty old man who would have taken advantage of her then toss her aside when he set his eyes on a younger girl to be his bribe," Timothy’s fist trembled as he spoke.
Gilbert was the last person Regina was to be set up with. The fact Samuel had never informed Regina of what his grandmother had suggested pissed Timothy off. Had Regina not been someone to stand up for what she wanted, she could have been somewhere in Gilbert’s home curled up in a corner because of her marriage.
"I never intended for her to get hurt if she would be with Gilbert. I never planned for him to be able to lay a hand on her. She was only meant to marry and take his wealth. You honestly think I would have made my younger sister-"
"Yes!" Timothy exclaimed. "I believe you would have made her suffer for the purpose of removing your grandmother as the head of your family. Just suggesting she marry Gilbert is already bad enough. This is why I can’t understand how much you have changed. The old Samuel would have taken Regina’s hand and run away before he let Gilbert be near her. What the hell happened to you?"
"Be forced to follow a woman like my grandmother and see if you remain the same. It didn’t help that my mother was using me to take over everything so she could get rid of Minnie. Then my father never had faith in me. I could see that he didn’t. He wished Regina would have been a boy to take over. It was frustrating to see Regina rebel and have our father’s love but I was seen as useless," Samuel expressed his feelings.
No one could understand the position he was in after Minnie told his father to make him start learning to be more involved in the family business. He saw many cruel things that were ordered by the money he viewed as his sweet grandmother. While Regina and Aurora were having fun in each other’s company, he became paranoid and fearful of the things he witnessed.
Samuel desperately wanted the two girls he called his sisters to check up on him. Then everything would have been fine but Aurora and Regina only paid attention to each other. He learned a lesson that he had to deal with his problems all by himself. He hid in his room and tried to erase all the things he had seen. He learned how easy it was for people to hide their true nature and how powerful Minnie was. freewebnoveℓ.com
He hated being weak and a coward so Samuel desired to have the power Minnie was keeping to herself. He wanted to be the new person in charge and have all the attention on him. For his father to finally be proud of him, for Regina to compliment him, for Aurora to be proud of her older brother, and for his mother to care less about her anger towards Minnie and focus on him.
Samuel knew that he messed up when it came to Regina and Aurora but he was genuinely trying to gain the power to protect them and have them proud of him. His obsession with power had changed him and he liked it regardless of what anyone thought. He was never going back to the old Samuel.
