Chapter 265: Finding Regina (2)

It took Claude one hour to find suitable servant clothes for Aurora and Vincent. Thanks to a connection with someone he knew at Timothy’s home, he was also able to set up the two of them going in as new servants.

Aurora and Vincent left Claude’s home late in the evening right before the sun could set, to head for Timothy’s home because servants from out of town were given a place in the residence.

Claude created the story that they were a young couple who ran away from their previous home due to objections in their relationship. Now, they were here in town looking to start fresh and working right away. Vincent was meant to work in the stables while Aurora would be a maid. The two different jobs would make it easier for them to search for any signs of Regina quicker.

"I wish I had something belonging to her for you to smell," Aurora said as they walked to Timothy’s house. It would have been odd for a young couple with hardly any money to be riding around with a horse as grand as Vincent’s to Timothy’s home so they left it with Claude. "At least you will be able to smell if there are people watching Timothy’s home."

"The human town is filled with too many strange smells for my nose. Hopefully, my nose can become accustomed to the different smells by the time we reach your sister’s boyfriend’s home. Why are there so many bad smells?" Vincent scrunched up his nose. The air here was much different from the air where the wolves resided.

"I do feel a difference with the atmosphere here but that’s because you and I are accustomed to being around trees where there is a fresh breeze blowing in." freewēbnoveℓ.com

"It’s hilarious how humans once spoke about werewolves being filthy animals but look at the state of their town," Vincent looked around at the number of things dropped onto the ground. "Not even our farmers have their animals in an environment like this. I would have their head."

"Well, it is different for wolves because of how sensitive your noses are to smells. No one can have something strong in your community to mess with someone else’s senses. Here, humans simply ignore their surroundings and go on their way. Areas, where the rich reside, do not have a bad smell so your nose will be fine once we arrive at Timothy’s home," she reassured Vincent.

"Why werewolves would willingly abandon their packs to live in a place like this is beyond me. The king sits on his throne making life easy for him and those that are rich. He rarely offers help to those in need. Yet, the people here used to sing praises for him."

"He used to offer festivals and send out small gifts to families at a certain time in the year to keep the people loving him. He promised them safety and kept other kings from invading his land. He might not have been the best king but he was certainly better than his father which is why the people here loved him," Aurora explained.

King Darius was too paranoid and controlling but he was better than the kings before him who forgot about the existence of their people. Previous kings mercilessly killed anyone they suspected was not normal without any clear evidence and had the bodies hung around in town to scare their people that one day all would be exposed.

King Darius was better at pretending he was not a cruel person who wouldn’t kill anyone who might be innocent.

"They’re all fools," Vincent insulted everyone living in the Harlow kingdom. "Hopefully, they will all die out soon. Be careful when you enter his home since you said he is a relative of the king. We cannot trust that he does not know your sister is a witch and has her locked up. He might also be a hunter."

"I know. Though I have been around Timothy before, I don’t know him well enough to say he is someone without a hidden agenda. I am also suspicious of the fact he loved Regina all this time. However, if she did run to him for help, she must trust him a lot because Regina would rather fight on her own," Aurora said. ƒreewebɳovel.com

She believed the only reason Regina would have run to someone whose family had a history of hunting witches was that Timothy must have already found out about her being a witch or that since they had last spoken, Regina had come to love Timothy. Whatever the reason was they would find out soon since they were nearing the land which belonged to Timothy.

From the distance, Aurora saw a large house surrounded by fields and a gate to keep others out from venturing onto Timothy’s land. Timothy had enough space between himself from other houses so his neighbors would not bother him. Unlike others with wealth, Timothy’s home resided in an area where there weren’t too many people of his social standing.

As Aurora and Vincent neared the gates, a man on a horse rode out to greet them.

"State your business," he ordered them.

"We are new servants. I am to work in the stables while my wife is to be a new maid," Vincent spoke up.

"New servants? The young master has ordered that no one will be on his property these next few days. Please turn back and visit again in a week’s time."

Aurora and Vincent looked at each other confused about why they were being turned back when Claude had gotten the job for them not too long ago. What could have happened between now and then for them to be turned back?

"Is there a reason why we can’t start work today? We are desperate sir," Aurora pleaded for them to gain entry. It would be a hassle for them to have to wait a week to see if Regina was here. They did not have a week to waste.

"I told you what the young master said. If you continue to approach the gates, you will be arrested. Do not do anything stupid," the man on the horse then rode away leaving Aurora and Vincent with a new problem.
