Chapter 263: Unexpected twist (3)
Rachel’s smile grew as the reality that they were finally free from Minnie was right in her palms. For over two decades she sat in this home like a little child having to listen to someone who was not even her mother.
From the very beginning, she had told Nathaniel to snap out of his fears and take control to run the house. He was late but at least it was finally happening.
With teary eyes, Nathaniel peered down at the sight of his mother murmuring incoherent words as blood dripped from her head. One more blow might be enough to end her forever but he did not have that much courage to end her. If he passed the wood to his wife, she would certainly end his mother. However, he was not going to allow that.
"Mother, I don’t know if you can hear me but I will give you the same fate you wanted to give Regina. I will let you sit in a cell and think over all the things you have done to this family-"
"What!" Rachel yelled as it was foolish to let Minnie continue to live. If this was reversed, Minnie would let them die rather than rot in a cell. "Are you crazy? Kill her and be done with this."
"Is everything alright?" One of the guards asked from the other end of Regina’s bedroom door. frёewebηovel.cѳm
"Everything is alright," Rachel immediately answered. "I am going to send them away. Either you deal with your mother or I shall do what you can’t when I return."
Nathaniel gripped Rachel’s hand, stopping her from leaving the room. "You don’t get to tell me what happens to my mother. I made it clear a moment ago that she would be locked up just like she wanted to do with Regina. Simply tell the guards my mother has fallen ill but I am taking care of it. Go," he released her.
"This does not make any sense. Even a blind person could see further ahead than you that this won’t end well for us. Minnie always has a backup plan to protect herself. If we keep her alive there is a chance she could ruin us. Do not underestimate someone who has spent their entire lives meddling in witchcraft, Nathaniel. I say this because I care for you." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"Rachel, I have not forgotten the anger I feel towards you because of the way you have been treating Regina and Samuel. Shut up before I consider throwing you into the same cell as my mother. Send the guards away as you said you would and then we’ll talk. I will not kill my mother so do not think of bringing it up again," Nathaniel gave her a warning.
He loved his mother more than Rachel therefore it wouldn’t be harder for him to hit his wife for going against him. They were not on the best terms these days because of their different opinions concerning their child and Rachel should be glad he had not talked about a long-term separation. His reputation would be fine but Rachel would take a hit.
"Do you still view yourself as a saint? You are worse than me when it comes to our children. From the very beginning, you knew your mother was expecting you to produce children who could one day become witches. You knew that if they show no signs of being a witch she would experiment with a witch’s heart and Aurora to try making them become witches. Never forget that," Rachel said.
If Nathaniel truly loved her as he claimed, he would have told her to run rather than drag her into a family with witch blood. She could never expose their truth as there was a chance other people would be concerned if she dipped her hands in witchcraft and try burning her. It also meant her children would die.
Nathaniel painted her as the villain when it came to Regina but he liked to forget all the plans he stood by and watch Minnie plot on his children. For years he allowed her to be the villain in their children’s eyes.
"You acted like there wasn’t a good reason for me trying so hard to get Regina married. I wanted to get her away from your awful mother and these evil plans she has to make witches rule the world. I told you to give Samuel more control of the family businesses so that he could start making connections to go up against Minnie. It was not the life they wanted but someone had to step up and push it in order to protect them!" Rachel yelled.
She had only one last question for her husband. "What have you done to help them, hmm? Remember how you gave Regina a job to please her and to taunt me but then you sat idle when Minnie took it away from her? Regina ran away from home and didn’t seek you out for protection. Doesn’t that show there is something wrong with you too?"
"Get out," Nathaniel ordered his wife. "Get out! Get the hell out of this house. The one thing I should have always listened to my mother about was getting rid of you. We do not love each other, Rachel. Why continue to torture ourselves? I will find Regina and take care of her. You should try to find shelter with your family for the time being."
"I have stood by and tolerated this mess of a family for years. Do you think I would leave empty-handed or that I would leave just because you asked me to? I deserve half of everything you have for the number of secrets I have kept. The worst thing you could do is try leaving me with nothing. If I have to leave, I will tell the world everything about this family," said Rachel.
She would never expose the Hamiltons but she wanted to scare Nathaniel into giving her something grand. He should give her this house and a lot of money to keep her quiet.
"How foolish of you to not leave when I asked you kindly. Guards!" Nathaniel yelled to the men outside. As his family would say, Rachel was now a stranger and people like her belonged in cells.
