Chapter 261: Unexpected twist (1)
Minnie gathered Nathaniel and Rachel inside Regina’s room which was torn down to look for what Regina was hiding. Early in the morning, Minnie was informed of Regina’s escape and now she was fuming with anger from losing someone so valuable once again.
"I should have stayed with my decision to throw that girl into a cell. Now, she has left us. If she tells anyone what we are, this family will be screwed. Haven’t I told you to keep an eye on her? How could neither of you be aware Regina was messing around with spells?" Minnie picked up the book found in Regina’s closet and threw it at Nathaniel.
"It didn’t seem like she was doing anything out of the ordinary recently. You did not pick up on this either. We are not to be blamed for what happened," Rachel replied as she disliked that Minnie was speaking to them.
Minnie was acting as if she didn’t play a role in Regina distancing herself from everyone. Minnie shared just as much fault as anyone for not watching Regina.
"I tried to give her what she wanted but the two of you were always upsetting her. Had you allowed Regina to continue to work, we would not be in this predicament, mother. And Rachel-"
"And Rachel? I have not done anything to that girl to make her run away. Need I remind both of you I was against Regina and Samuel being raised around Aurora like brother and sister? Aurora is the reason Regina asks this way. Yet again, it comes down to all of this being Minnie’s fault," Rachel threw Minnie under the carriage.
It made no sense Minnie was so determined to treat someone she practically killed over and over again as her granddaughter. Minnie did not want to admit that after all the horrible things she had done in her life, there was a soft spot in her heart for Aurora. Now, thanks to that soft spoke, their plans were being ruined.
"I gave you one simple task to watch Aurora and Regina while they were growing up. Take some responsibility that you failed as a mother since Regina would never confide in anything she is doing to you. Nathaniel, I don’t know why you were so determined to bring this one into our family. I should have found a nice witch for you to be with. Then both of your children would show promise!" Minnie yelled at her useless son.
Minnie could have long killed Rachel but it was Nathaniel who begged her not to. He claimed to love Rachel but Minnie tried to convince him it was only lust. If he listened to her advice and went with another woman, Nathaniel would have seen he never loved Rachel.
Rachel gritted her teeth, tempted to punch Minnie dead in her face. The woman had never once accepted her and there was nothing to be done to make Minnie accept her now. ’If only Nathaniel had listened to me,’ she thought.
They could get rid of Minnie and forget about Aurora. The Hamiltons were insanely rich. Why would they need to search high and low for Aurora when they had all they needed right here?
"The two of you deserve each other. I am sick and tired of looking at the two of you imbeciles. I will take care of Regina and Samuel all on my own. You two are banned from this house until I see fit. Be gone by the end of the day," Minnie ordered the duo. She loved her son dearly but hated to have someone so useless around.
Duncan proved to be useless last night and as she had commanded him to, he killed himself for allowing Regina to get away. Minnie once loved him and he was probably the only man she had ever loved but she was not saddened by his death. They both knew the outcome if Duncan were to fail her once again.
"No, you cannot cast me when I have done nothing wrong. I was only trying to be a good father by not casting Regina aside and trying to understand her. I have failed my daughter because I was listening to you, mother. Why do you continue to make me not feel like a man? For once, can’t you act like my mother?" Nathaniel pleaded.
He lived his entire life fearing Minnie and viewing her as a bad guy. He knew what she was capable of doing and although he was capable of overthrowing her, there was a lot of emotional damage stopping him from standing up to Minnie in the past.
"I have to draw the line mother. I love my daughter and I have let her down because I have been helping you chase after this dream of eternal youth, to become a witch, and letting witches take over. I am not a witch and I do not wish to go through those evil practices to become one. I’ve said and done terrible things when it came to Aurora and I feel guilty because I have looked at her as my daughter though I was meant to be acting."
"You have always been weak," Minnie shook her head at Nathaniel. "I thought I picked the stronger child but it is clear now that I was wrong."
"What are you talking about?" Rachel questioned as she had no idea what was meant by a stronger child.
"I was a twin," Nathaniel revealed what they kept buried for years. "Mother thought I would have been the one to be a witcher and feed me the heart of my sibling to make me stronger. It is the same thing my great grandfather did with my mother’s twin sister. I was truly happy neither Regina nor Samuel showed any signs of being a witch when they were born or Minnie would have gotten rid of the weaker one."
"What?!" Rachel exclaimed.
"We are more human than witches but there are traces of witches in our hearts and one of our family members believed consuming a heart of a weaker family member could make those who appeared to be more of a witch stronger. If I bring Regina back here, you are going to take her heart, aren’t you?" Nathaniel came to a cruel conclusion. ƒrēewebnovel.com
"That child does not want to be like us. She is no longer a Hamilton or deserving of the power she has. I shall take it to become a witch and lead the witches to take over this kingdom. This is everything my grandfather and our family before him have wanted. Do not get in my way Nathaniel or I will kill you. Get out!" Minnie yelled, pointing at the door of Regina’s bedroom for the duo to leave.
"I cannot allow you to hurt my daughter anymore," Nathaniel bent down to pick up a piece of wood from the mess created in Regina’s bedroom. "I’m sorry, mother."
