Chapter 259: Hidden (3)
Looking around again, Aurora noted the several stares coming from men toward her. She snickered, finding it to be funny she had only noticed the women looking at Vincent at first.
"Care to bring me in on the joke?" Vincent looked down at his side, wondering what Aurora found to be funny all of a sudden. They were attracting more attention than they wanted just from their appearance.
"We should have asked to be made ugly. We’re not completely in town yet but there are already countless eyes on us. Our plan is failing from the start. It is a little funny," Aurora continued to laugh.
"There is no possible way on this earth to make me appear ugly, Aurora. I think it would have been better if we did not join the crowd but people would have looked at us when we entered the market anyway. Let’s use this to our advantage," said Vincent.
Instead of going to others, the people in town would be curious about them just as the crowd is, and so they would approach Vincent and Aurora first. It would be less suspicious than two people the town has never seen before going around asking questions.
"Okay but do not blame me if vines appear out of thin air attacking any women who get too close to you. We are playing a role but you are still taken."
"I am not one to enjoy this town or being around these people but I am starting to enjoy your jealousy coming out. I think I am going to enjoy my stay here," Vincent smiled, ready to see a jealous side from Aurora. Often, it was him being infuriated with men constantly looking at Aurora. Now it was his turn to sit back and watch it happen to Aurora.
"You are so evil Vincent," Aurora muttered. How could he get joy from seeing her be jealous of other women touching him?
She wanted to say it wasn’t jealousy. Aurora had memories of Regina telling her how women would court men even though the man would be standing next to a woman. Some people thought no one was taken until there was a ring on the finger. Therefore, they would keep trying their luck. Men also did this to steal away women.
Vincent would not be feeling any joy today as she was not going to react how he wanted.
"You there, young couple. Come see what I have," a young woman jumped in front of Aurora and Vincent as she wanted to use them to bring attention to her stall. "I have beautiful rings for couples just like you to wear. You can come back when you want to switch to a wedding ring."
"No thank you," Aurora denied the rings. The woman did not look like someone who would know the gossip she wanted.
"I wouldn’t have minded getting a couple ring. I didn’t know it was a thing."
"Please focus," Aurora sighed. This wasn’t the best place to bring Vincent as he would learn about the many things couples did here in the market and wish to try them. "We are not here for fun."
"I am well aware of that but you should be less obvious when looking around for someone to chat with. You look as though you are desperate for someone to approach. Relax your shoulders and act natural, Aurora. The right person will come to us of their own free will," Vincent whispered then turned Aurora back to the stall with rings. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
He had been in the human town many times to follow around the Hamiltons. Vincent knew what it meant to be discreet. Aurora needed to acquire the talent of looking at her target without being obvious. Vincent already picked up on two older women chatting about the newcomers and he could hear their feet moving towards them.
"I forgot you the expert stalker," Aurora whispered, looking at the rings the woman once offered her. She had to admit she was too impatient to wait for someone to approach them but Vincent was right. They needed to act naturally or the guards might question what she was looking around for so intently.
The town guards took even the smallest action as a threat and threw countless people into a cell until they would be judged. If someone seemed normal after an inspection, they would be released, however, if a guard concluded someone might be a witch or something else, they would be killed. The king’s fear had created this kind of atmosphere where everything was often questioned.
"I would like two of these," Vincent handed two coins from his pocket to the stall owner and picked out two rings.
Aurora wondered where Vincent or any of the other wolves had gotten the money used here in the market. Were there a lot of werewolves secretly working here?
"Why buy a couple ring when you can simply marry the girl you are with?" One of the women Vincent had been listening to asked this question.
"I proposed to her but she needs time. A couple ring would have to do until she is ready," Vincent replied, placing the rings into his pocket. He would give one to Aurora after they dealt with the Hamiltons and then replace the rings when they got married.
"Are you crazy? Look how many girls are eyeing him. Take my advice and marry this man before someone steals him away from you. I once had the love of my life taken from me. My name is Selma and this is my sister Marcia. We have lived in this town all our lives but never once saw you two. Where are you from?" Asked Selma. The young couple looked like they did not belong in this kingdom.
"We have lived in another town our entire lives and it has been my dream to travel to this town. You are right I should-"
"I do not believe you," Selma interrupted Aurora. She had been curious about the young couple not because she was intrigued by them but because she found them suspicious. "Evil will fall upon us now that you two are here. Witch! There is a witch!" Selma yelled at the top of her lungs to alert the guards.
