Chapter 258: Hidden (2)
"I am only now noticing how close you live to the human town. If they were to venture deep into the forest, they would end up right at your gates in no time. Aren’t you worried about that happening?" Aurora looked back to Vincent as they rode closer to town.
"We have lived there for many years and it is rare for a human to stumble upon it. They believe it is cursed and stay away. Only fools come looking for trouble to see what is in the forest. We cannot allow them to leave once they see our gates, so they are killed," Vincent replied.
"If the king were to ever find out about where you lived and sent an army at your gates, what would you do?"
"Send the children to live with another pack while everyone else defends our home. We have built up too much to run away. The new gates are supposed to be twice as strong to help us fight against our enemies. We are not leaving no matter who comes knocking on our doors."
"There is a high chance of you winning against humans. They are nowhere as strong as werewolves and their weapons hardly hurt you. If all werewolves came together and formed one large pack, you could have taken over the palace and have this kingdom belonging to werewolves," Aurora was intrigued just by the thought of it.
"Then there would be a conflict of which alpha would lead everyone. Then, when we come to the conclusion of who will become king, werewolves from other packs wouldn’t listen to anyone but their previous alphas. We are territorial creatures and it is better for everyone if we stay away from each other. Certain packs only get along due to there being one pack that split and the two sides get along," Vincent explained.
"I can bet all that I have you wouldn’t want to become werewolf king. You do not even like being the leader of your pack. I have to say, you would look good sitting on a throne," Aurora smiled as the image popped up in her head.
"If you wish to become a queen, I might consider doing it," Vincent kissed the back of her neck. Whatever she wanted, he would see to it she had it.
Aurora had always dreamt of living inside of the palace but she would never want to be a queen. "It is too much of a hassle to be a queen. I cannot even fathom how I will help you lead the community. I prefer a simple life above anything else. I already have too much drama in my life already."
"When we are married, you do not need to lift a finger or worry about leading anything. I will have it taken care of. Do whatever you want to when that time comes. We have to get off here," Vincent slowed down the horse. fгeewebnovёl.com
After riding for hours, they reached the road others took to reach the town.
"We’re going to blend in with the others heading to town. Try to relax and not act suspicious or the guards will pull you aside to ask questions. The house we will be staying at is a little far out of town but passing through to collect some things for our stay," Vincent slid off the horse first and then held out his hand to help Aurora down.
"Collect some things like what?" Aurora had no clue what they could possibly need from the market.
"Information about what the Hamiltons have been up to these days and anything in the market which catches your eye, I shall buy."
"Oh. Regina used to get a lot of gossips when she traveled through the market after her dance classes. Servants from all kinds of households go there to talk about what the family they worked for are doing. We can definitely find something out from there," Aurora said as she slid off the horse into Vincent’s arms.
"We must also be discreet about this as they would find it strange two strangers are asking around about the Hamiltons. Hold my hand," Vincent said to Aurora.
He led the horse with one hand while holding onto Aurora’s hand with his other hand. The crowd of people traveling into town was thick. They were brushing each other trying to get into town quickly to either make money or enjoy the trip as much as they could before they needed to leave.
Vincent felt the need to keep an eye on Aurora as she was beautiful and other men might not have the common sense to leave her alone though she was standing next to Vincent. He also wanted to hold her hand to prevent her from getting separated from him. If they needed to make a quick escape, she would be right by his side.
"Even though I rarely ventured around the town, it feels good to be back here. There were so many things I wanted to see when I was living with Artemis and the Hamiltons. Now, I get to walk around the market without there being anyone to give me a list of rules. It feels nice," Aurora took a deep breath.
At first, she had to listen to Artemis’s rules when it came to being around humans. Then, it changed to listening to Minnie’s rules. She had to remain hidden for both rules and it was weird that she was still hiding even now. She could not walk around with her white hair showing as it was not common for someone as young as her. If only people were to know she was actually old.
As Aurora and Vincent joined the crowd of villages, she noted a handful of travelers looking in their direction. She feared they must have seemed suspicious to others up until she heard young girls whispering about a handsome man while looking at Vincent as she passed by.
"You are getting a lot of attention, Vincent. It will be hard for us to remain hidden in town," Aurora said, drawing closer to show they were together.
"Speak for yourself, Aurora. I am tempted to rid the men of their eyes if they keep staring at you."
