Chapter 224: A moment of peace (1)
"Regina, there is a guest downstairs for you. The young master Timothy is requesting to have a word with you," Duncan announced to Regina.
"Okay," Regina snapped her book shut. She wasn’t informed of any visit prior from Timothy seeing that he was meant to be planning out how he would propose to her.
Duncan left the room to hurry back to Minnie’s side and to also inform her of this visit.
"Did something happen? Why on earth is he here?" She asked herself. Regina stood up from her seat in the library to place the book she was reading back in its spot.
She had been reading about the history of their kingdom. The one without details about witches, werewolves, and more once roaming around. Regina wanted to know more about that side of the world.
"I shouldn’t keep him waiting for much longer," she placed the book just as she found it then turned on her heel to leave the large room.
Leaving the library, Regina only had to turn to her left to where the waiting room would be. The first thing she noticed was Timothy looking at one of her portraits from when she was a toddler.
"Hello," she announced her presence. "To what do I owe this visit, Timothy? I didn’t know we had plans to meet. Am I missing something?" She asked after noting his dressed-up appearance.
"We weren’t supposed to meet but I missed your presence," Timothy walked over to Regina, admiring her beauty as he did so.
Regina looked around the room to see if there was anyone else there. That was the only reasonable explanation she had for why he would say such a thing. "There is no one here for you to act like this."
"Have you completely forgotten that I have been in love with you? Now that we are to be engaged in the future, I can say these things to you out loud even if you have not become accustomed to it yet," he kissed the back of her hand.
"I’m afraid I won’t get used to it so easily. You have always been my enemy. We shouldn’t talk about this here since the walls have ears. Did you come for us to talk here or do you want to go somewhere else? Your attire looks like you have something in mind," said Regina.
"I was hoping I could date you out for the day to get to know you better like all the other people our age is doing. There will be a lot of love birds down by the stream."
Regina didn’t see the point in having to get to know each other."We grew up around each other, Timothy. You know me just like I know you. And it’s not like those other couples who are trying to test out their potential partners. We have already agreed to get married."
"Yes, but to others, it might be a little odd. Though we grew up close, we have always hated each other. Now that we are of age to be married, we have only been in the public eye together once. It would be good to be seen out again before the engagement or..." he leaned closer to whisper in her ear. "Some might suspect you are already carrying my child hence the rushed preparations."
"Please get your breath out of my ear," Regain pushed him away. His words did make sense as that was how people here liked to think.
If somehow got engaged and married quickly after too few meetings they assumed a child was involved. They rarely had the assumption the couple must’ve fallen in love at first sight.
Even if she and Timothy were to state they have loved each other all along it might still be weird because of the way Regina has openly talked about marriage.
"It would be good to show that we have fallen for each other. We should go down by the stream with everyone else. I must change my shoes first. Wait for me here."
’My heart,’ Timothy touched his chest, unable to contain the emotions he was feeling now that they were a couple. Technically, they were a fake couple but he could live happily with that.
"When am I going to tell her the news?" He muttered, trying to think of the best time before someone else could.
Timothy was presented with an offer recently that anyone would take but now that he wished to marry Regina, he had to know if she would like what the offer was about.
"Timothy, your visits to my home have been increasing," Minnie said as she walked into the room with Duncan right behind her.
’Did the butler run and tell her I was here? This is the man she had an affair with?’ Timothy gave Duncan a quick glance before greeting Minnie.
"Good day Minnie. These days I am free from all my work and thought I would stop by. I was here with Regina but she has gone to get something," he informed Minnie though he had a feeling she already knew that.
"I see. I take it that with you coming here to see Regina there would be a wedding soon. I already had someone in mind for her but I guess with her not turning you away, she has feelings for you."
Timothy became curious about the type of man Minnie had in mind for Regina. Whoever the man was, he was no match. He came in and swooped Regina away easily.
"Once we spend enough time together we will then see if there might be a wedding in the future," Timothy replied. He was talking to Nathaniel about Regina’s hand in marriage, not Minnie.
He always got a weird feeling from Minnie and after the way she dismissed Regina at breakfast when he was here, he understood quickly there was tension between the two. Anything concerning Regina would be talked about with only Nathaniel.
Timothy viewed Nathaniel as the one member who cared for Regina the most. He saw how the man glanced at his daughter apologetically.
"You are on the top of the lists for many families to get their daughters married to. It seems the other young man Seth has run away. Maybe he found a girl who is not on par with his status and had to run away. Such a waste for Regina but I would be happy to have you in my family." Minnie was actually more interested in his businesses.
She wanted to take them for herself. If Regina were to marry Timothy and have a child, should the man randomly become bedridden, Regina would be in charge of everything.
’That child will always be useful,’ Minnie greedily thought.
"Thank you," Timothy bowed his head. For some reason, he could feel her plotting on him. He saw the look in her eyes many times. Calculative people were always like this. She was thinking of how much she could gain from his union with Regina.
He could give her the answer right now that she wouldn’t receive a dime of what he owned. He loved Regina but there would be measures in place to keep her family away. Maybe he would give them a new home. After all, he was planning to give this home to Regina since she wanted it so badly.
Timothy had the resources to do whatever he desired.
"Lady Hamilton! Lady Hamilton! News-" A maid smacked her hand over her mouth when she saw Timothy was in the room. The news was concerning him.
Minnie glared at the maid for her behavior in front of her guest. She instructed all of them to never run around as her home was neither a market nor a pasture. "Excuse me for a moment, Timothy. I must check something." ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"No problem," he replied but was actually hoping Regina would return before Minnie could try speaking to him again. Timothy went back to looking at the portraits of Regina now that he was alone again.
"Have you lost your mind?" Duncan was the first one to scold the maid. He was already considering firing her for breaking one of the most important rules.
"I’m sorry but I have just received urgent news that you should know right away. Everyone on the street is now being informed about it."
"Urgent news? Spit it out quickly," Minnie instructed the maid.
"The king is dead," the maid said, surprising both Minnie and Duncan. "He has been dead for a while now but the palace kept it a secret. Princess Catherine has always passed away."
"How on earth did two royals die?" Minnie was confused by this news. The king was always heavily guarded to the point no one could easily enter the palace to kill him and the princess.
"No one knows the details of their deaths but it is rumored court ministers have visited young master Timothy with the decision to make him the next king-"
"What on earth did you just say?" Questioned Regina from a distance. The maid wasn’t speaking softly so she heard every word. She was well aware Timothy was a relative of the king but she had no idea that should the king die Timothy would take his place. Where did that leave their engagement?
