Chapter 220: Judgement (1)
"How did it go?" Aurora asked when she felt the bed sink from someone sitting on it. She didn’t need to open her eyes to know that it was Vincent. Who would be so bold to enter his home and come this close to her when he had just risen from the dead?
"I thought you went to sleep in your own bedroom," Vincent removed a strand of hair from her face so that it wouldn’t bother her.
"I was..." Aurora yawned, still tired from her journey. "But then I realized when you return you wouldn’t be able to enter the room with me asleep. I was going to start claiming your room as mine anyway."
"I see. Back to your earlier question, Cecilia did not want to admit to the things she knew Graham had done at first. In the end, I had to drag her out of her home and she then decided to speak. She could change her mind now that she has an empty space for her to think."
"Suits her right. She must’ve loved it when I got kidnapped back then. What about the others? Have they confessed to anything or are they blaming each other?" Aurora knew that was the first reaction for these types of people.
Pointing fingers was much better than owning up to their own actions and asking for forgiveness.
"Pointing fingers but I don’t mind. I will be able to connect the dots of everything they are saying. If you are tired just go to sleep. I will be here to talk to you when you wake up." Vincent found it to be cute how she was trying her hardest to stay awake and listen to him.
"I can’t sleep not knowing if things are going in your favor. What kind of girlfriend would that make me?" She yawned once more.
"Did you have to walk really far? Where did you go for you to be this tired?" Vincent caressed her hair to help her drift off back to sleep.
"I didn’t take any breaks because I didn’t want to find Percy too late. What if I messed up everything for you by being so slow? Just need a couple of hours of rest and some food. Then I’ll be good to go..." her voice trailed off as she drifted back to sleep.
"Why did you try so hard to fight your tiredness?" He kissed her forehead. Vincent pulled the blanket over her body to protect her from the cold air coming through his bedroom window that she had most likely opened.
Vincent stayed on the bed a while longer continuing to caress her hair to make her feel better as she slept. He paused when she snuggled closer to him but then continued when she stopped moving. If only she knew how cute she was when sleeping.
"I should turn your room into a closet and move you into my room tonight-"
"Vincent," Aurora muttered.
"Yes?" He replied waiting for her to continue but as more time went on she didn’t say anything. "So you do call my name in your sleep. When you wake up, tell me what kind of dream you were having about me. I can tell you what I dream about."
A loud crash was heard somewhere in the house. Vincent rolled his eyes as it sounded like one of his vases had been broken. Each vase in his home had been taken from his parent’s house as a memory of how his childhood home was.
His mother loved flowers and would always have fresh ones placed in the vases as soon as the old ones lost their beauty. Whoever broke it would need to repay him with their life. He gave strict instructions that no one was supposed to go anywhere near them but the butler John.
A knock at the door interrupted his thoughts and before the person could wake up Aurora after she had fallen back to sleep. Vincent left the bed to see who was the one to interrupt the peaceful moment he was having.
Sniffing the door he knew who it was and found it odd the person was there. "This is very unlike you John," he said to the butler as the man would normally hide around and do his job. freeweɓnøvel.com
Vincent caught the way John’s eyes went to his bed where Aurora lay. "Oh," he realized John’s change in behavior. "Is this because you have a new friend?"
John slowly nodded his head.
"No offense John but seeing you out in the open like this is creeping me out. She’s asleep right now as you can see but when she wakes up I’m sure the two of you can get to know each other better. She’s tired," Vincent turned John away.
John looked at the bed once more before turning to go back to what he had been doing.
"Before you go, John, what did someone just break? I hope it wasn’t any of my mother’s-nevermind," Vincent deadpanned when a whiff of who was in his house filled his nose. "Send her away. Her big mouth will wake up Aurora."
He didn’t have the time to entertain Cherry when the woman didn’t know how to be quiet. She could get all the answers from Victor. "And make her pay for whatever the hell she broke," he added.
"I know you aren’t-" Cherry was shushed as Vincent quickly rushed to her side to cover her mouth. She hit his body pleading for him to remove his hand from covering her mouth.
Similar to a kidnapper, Vincent kept his hand over Cherry’s mouth and lifted her up to take her downstairs where it might be better for Cherry to talk.
With Vincent gone, John closed his bedroom door so that no one would pass and look at Aurora while she slept. Since the woman would no doubt marry Vincent in the future he did not mind becoming friends with her.
"What the hell Vincent? Were you trying to kill me?" Cherry took long deep breaths welcoming air back into her body.
"If I wanted to finally take you out of this world it wouldn’t be like this. Aurora is sleeping so don’t even think of getting too loud and waking her up. Didn’t you hear there will be a community meeting? Or if you were so curious, why didn’t you go to your boyfriend?"
Cherry blushed at the mention of her boyfriend. How on earth did he know she was dating? "Did Victor talk to you? Wait, that’s not the point of why I’m here. Stop trying to change the topic. Why did you pretend to die and not tell me anything? Why didn’t you tell Victor of all people?"
"Cause it wouldn’t be believable if the two of you didn’t react the way you did. Simple as that," Vincent replied what he thought would have been obvious to everyone. He wouldn’t have left them out of his plan without having a good reason.
Cherry pinched the bridge of her nose annoyed by Vincent’s response. "Can’t you be a little bit more loving with your replies? I swear..." she started to yell but stopped when Vincent glared at her. "I swear there is a hole in your chest where your heart should be. Don’t you agree?" She asked softly.
"No. I personally think I have a loving heart. It’s only that everyone expects me to be nice to them all day long. I’m more of a tough-love kind of person but that’s still love. One day all of you will regret taking my kindness for granted-"
"It will be hard when we don’t view you as kind. You’re the type of person to hand someone a treat with a glare and have them confused as to whether you are willingly sharing or doing it against your will," Cherry collapsed onto a chair.
It was a waste of her time coming to-
"I’m sorry for making you worry about me. It won’t happen again," Vincent apologized.
Cherry blinked twice, not sure if she heard him correctly. "Come again?"
"It’s odd that for creatures with such good hearing you are always asking for others to repeat themselves. You heard me correctly the first time and I am not repeating myself. Now that this conversation is over, you know where the door is right?"
"Seriously? And then you wonder why people don’t think you have a heart. Don’t think this will be the last you see of me. I will be back after the trial to get whatever information you are not going to tell everyone," Cherry stood up.
"That is if you can get through the door when you come back. I won’t be accepting any guests other than family after the trial. So unless you can marry Victor before then, don’t come back. Goodbye," Vincent started to go back upstairs.
He was joking with Cherry but if she thought he was serious and would run off to marry his brother it wouldn’t be such a bad thing. He should be showered with gifts for helping the two idiots with the simple romance they were making complicated.
"Aurora!" Cherry yelled at the top of her lungs as revenge before running towards the door.
"This fool," Vincent sighed.
