Chapter 205: Plan (2)
Now that Aurora and Vincent both had a plan in mind to get rid of Graham, the two went their separate ways. Aurora gathered a few items to travel with to search for her friends. She was hoping at least one of them had not moved away from where she remembered them to have lived.
Vincent on the other hand started the preparations for him to appear sick. The witches were called back thanks to the stick Aurora had from Morgan. They placed a spell on a ring that would make anyone who wore it look sick but when it was taken off the person would be fine.
Derek ordered the workers in Vincent’s home to spread the word on the street that he is sick and perhaps dying. The doctor who left before he could learn Vincent was alright believed the rumors to be true that Vincent was going to die. He had seen it with his own eyes after all.
"Has everything been set up perfectly?" Vincent asked Derek. He sat on his bed waiting to play the role of a sick person.
"Yes. Many have gathered outside your home wanting to see if it is true. Word will reach your uncle quickly with this. Victor is here with Cherry? Should we not inform them of what we are doing? Victor will be heartbroken at the thought of losing another family member," said Derek.
"As harsh as it might be to keep this from him, it’ll be more believable if my brother truly thinks I am dying. I will tell him when the bait has worked. Make sure you don’t spoil anything Derek. You must do all the hard work," Vincent placed the ring on his finger and lay on the bed.
Derek watched with fascination as Vincent changed from healthy to incredibly ill-looking. "Witches really are too powerful. It’s time," he muttered when the footsteps of someone running up to Vincent’s room were heard.
The door of Vincent’s room flew open to reveal Victor with a messy appearance and Cherry right behind him.
"Vincent!" Victor called to his brother as he rushed to the bed. Just a moment ago his brother had been fine when they were walking on the street. What happened since then for Vincent to be in such a state where his eyes had dark circles, his body appeared thin and lacking any nutrients. "What the hell happened?"
Victor directed his anger at Derek as he was supposed to protect his brother.
"The doctor believes he has been poisoned with wolfbane but we have no idea who the culprit is. There is no medicine to heal him so we are hoping your brother can fight it off."
"W-What about the culprit?" Cherry could not believe the state of Vincent. "Have you found the person?"
"Not yet-"
"You’re lying! Why are you lying to me?" Victor glared at Derek. He had the ability to sense a lie from a young age but never let it show. If you studied someone long enough you would see their repeated mannerisms when they lie.
"I am not lying Victor. I want to find the person who did this just as much as you do. Pointed fingers and calling me a liar won’t help your brother. We have to move quickly. I have sent men out on a hunt for the cure. A powerful witch might be able to help but we have not found one yet."
"The moon Goddess can help us!" Victor suggested since the woman would be more powerful than any witch they could find.
"Haven’t you heard? Artemis has disappeared from the forest with a human. No one knows where she has run off to and the only two people to know can’t tell us. Aurora left shortly after learning of what had happened to Vincent. She has left to look for a cure so we must put our faith in her," Derek repeated the words Vincent told him.
It didn’t feel good to lie to Victor with such a trick but it was for the best.
"What do you think of your uncle, Graham? Do you trust him with your life?"
"Why does that matter now? Do you believe my uncle had something to do with this?" Victor allowed Cherry to tend to his brother while he went to Derek.
"Who else hates your brother enough to kill him? Or will you continue to ignore the feud between the two of them? I’m sure your brother has told you he believed Graham was the one to trap your parents leading to their death but you have continued to be friendly with him. Whose side are you on?" Inquired Derek. It always bugged him that Victor was so kind to Graham after Vincent’s accusations.
"Obviously I am on my brother’s side but for me to throw away my uncle we need proof which is why I stayed by his side even though I despised him. I knew Vincent wouldn’t recklessly lie about my uncle killing our parents. It was hard but I pretended to smile when I was angry. I accepted his gifts and listened to him refer to himself as my new father. Had I known he would poison Vincent, I..." Victor dropped to his knees.
Graham trusted him so much that there were many opportunities for Victor to till him. However, Victor held himself back because he wanted his uncle to admit to the community that he was a traitor. Because of his jealousy, he killed his one and only brother. That he pretended to have good intentions. freewёbnoνel.com
"Vincent is in our father’s position and I am in my uncles. I cannot imagine what emotion it must be to kill your own brother and to now poison his eldest son. Are you certain it must be my uncle this time?" frёewebnoѵēl.com
"Yes," Derek nodded. "No one else is this bold to poison Vincent. There must be a mole in this house and I will weed them out. You should use the trust Graham has in you to help get rid of him once and for all. No one will be allowed into his home without any suspicion like you. Victor, the son who has always been kind to him."
"Why must Victor go there? We have the suspicion that it is Graham and that there is a mole here. Once we find the mole we can easily get them to confess who sent them," said Cherry.
"It is easy for those who are hired to be thrown aside and manipulated. Finding the mole won’t mean we will be able to connect it to Graham. His home will have all the answers and Victor is the only one to go there without looking suspicious. There is also one last thing I need to ask now. Do you wish to become the leader if Vincent-"
"Nothing will happen to Vincent," Victor corrected Derek. Wolfsbane is powerful but Victor had faith it would not kill his brother. Vincent’s time to die was not meant to be so soon.
"Graham will also ask you this question and depending on your answer, you might end up like Vincent. Think carefully of your answer when you see your uncle. I know the two of you have just arrived but I must ask you to leave to let Vincent rest peacefully. You can return in the evening when the doctor returns to check on him. I will guard Vincent with my life and send for you if anything happens," Derek promised.
"Leave?" Cherry did not want to leave but there was honestly nothing she could do for Vincent by just staying by his side. Perhaps she could also look for a cure too. She could leave the community and venture out to see if anyone had been studying wolfsbane. It wouldn’t matter if they weren’t a werewolf as long as they had a cure. "We should go and return later Victor."
"Tsk," Victor clenched his fists. He wanted to stay but sitting around won’t do anything for his brother. "Let’s go. Keep me updated Derek."
"I will."
Derek watched as the duo reluctantly left Vincent’s bedroom each with their own plan of how they planned to help Vincent. He went by the window to see them leave before going back to the bed to slip the ring off Vincent’s finger.
"Well done," Vincent opened his eyes and sat up.
"Do we really need proof from Graham’s house when we plan to kill him anyway? Victor might just end up killing Graham on his own. That will stray away from what you and Aurora are planning."
"My brother won’t kill Graham. I have the spying spell but it only works with mirrors. Victor will report everything else I cannot hear to you after he visits my uncle’s home. After Victor and my uncle have a private conversation, tell Victor of the entire plan," Vincent had another reason for sending Victor to Graham’s home. It wasn’t to find any evidence but to eventually plant it in the house.
"I want my uncle to think everything is in the palm of his hands before I take it away from him again."
