Chapter 191: Awkward (4)
Regina ate in silence trying her best to ignore Samuel still trying to talk to Timothy about business deals. It was early in the morning for goodness sake. At least wait until he finishes his plate till you bombard the man with questions.
Still, it humored her to see Samuel thinking this union benefited him. He was grinning ear to ear as he talked to Timothy. One would think the two of them were the couple and Regina, the third wheel.
Regina felt like someone was watching her and she knew this feeling wasn’t wrong. She revealed last night that she let Aurora go and regretted it. She allowed the moment to get the best of her to reveal a secret she could have kept to the grave.
Even if her family had a feeling she was the one to help Aurora, she should have kept her mouth shut. Well, what’s done is done and there is no going back.
"Timothy, what are your thoughts on Regina going to work at one of our wine shops? Your family already has enough wealth for you to never have to work another day in your life. Surely, you wouldn’t want your future wife to be lifting a finger," Samuel was the one to bring up this subject.
Regina sighed, placing her fork down, unable to take another bite. Would it hurt anyone to have at least one normal breakfast? For how much longer was Samuel going to try to take the one business she was allowed to work at from her? He had everything else. "Don’t go there, Samuel."
"Oh, come on. It’s a valid question to the man trying to pursue you. Don’t you wish to hear his opinions on this before you have to head back there? I don’t want you wasting your time little sister. All eyes will be on you since Timothy has shown an interest in you. What will they think when they learn you are working?"
"They should mind their own business. Something that you should do right now dear brother," Regina replied.
"It is a fair question Samuel has asked. All of your attention should be on this new relationship with Timothy so that there is a higher chance for wedding bells at the end of the season. Timothy, I can only imagine your mother won’t like the idea of chasing after a girl looking to work when she is trying to get you to relax," Minnie dabbed the corners of her lips with a napkin then looked at the young couple.
"Forgive me but my son has a serious problem with spoiling Regina. He offered her the chance to work at the shop to make her happy but it wasn’t meant to last so long. I’m stepping in to fix this," Minnie informed Nathaniel.
It was ridiculous a young woman in their family would be working when it was time for her to be looking for a husband.
"I am going back there today. My relationship with Timothy has nothing to do with that," Regina argued.
"Exactly, so it is a waste of your time. From this moment on, you no longer have to go there and that’s final. Samuel will go in your stead today while you use this time to be with Timothy. Nathaniel, I expect that she doesn’t go back there. Understood?" Minnie looked to her son who caused this. He shouldn’t have allowed Regina to go anywhere without informing her.
"Father," Regina looked at her father hoping just this once he would step up and stand for what he promised her. It was only a couple of hours at a wine shop.
"I’m sorry Regina-"
Regina’s chair screeched as she stood up. She didn’t say anything for a couple of seconds but then just decided to leave instead of arguing again and again. She knew Minnie was trying to punish her, which she expected no less.
Minnie was heartless, Samuel annoying, her father a coward, and her mother cared more for her son.
"Excuse me," Timothy awkwardly smiled standing up from his seat. "The food was lovely. Thank you."
He never expected they would be so comfortable arguing right in front of them. He didn’t see what the big deal was about her wanting to work. Shouldn’t all family members have some knowledge and experience in what makes their family money?
Timothy left the table to follow after Regina and rolled his eyes when he heard footsteps behind him. It wasn’t hard to guess who it was after they were throwing him question after question since he arrived. "Is there something you want from me, Samuel?" He stopped to ask this question.
"Yes," Samuel scratched the back of his head. "Do you remember what I spoke about when I paid you a visit? It was about Regina. Since you are now pursuing her, does that mean you’ll be offering me help? I’m assuming that’s the only reason you are with her. I promise to give everything else I said I would."
Timothy couldn’t understand how the Samuel he once knew became like this. The Samuel he grew up with was an overprotective brother but now he looked desperate.
"Samuel, my relationship with Regina has nothing to do with the plan you came to me with. I am with her right now because I have feelings for her. Strange you never noticed when you’ve always picked up on her suitors and chased them away. Don’t annoy me about this any longer. Work to get what you want by yourself and stop looking for handouts."
"Wait wait wait. I don’t believe you doing this to me-"
"I never agreed to anything with you, Samuel. A little advice, I wouldn’t speak so loud about any deals you tried to make with me. Your grandmother won’t like it. One last thing, stop picking at your sister. It infuriates me." Timothy blamed Samuel for what just happened with Regina.
"I was trying to help you out back there Timothy. You don’t know the full story of why she’s being treated that way. She dug her own hole," Samuel tried to explain to Timothy but the man didn’t want to hear. freewёbnoνel.com
"This is a nice house," Timothy rested his hands in his pockets looking around the home. "I hope nothing stops you from getting it one day."
"Are you threatening me, Timothy? All because you are with Regina now? You were my friend first or have you forgotten that? I won’t stay still with how you are treating me."
"And what will you do?" Timothy smirked, finding humor in Samuel’s words. "Will you complain to your grandmother and have her come after me? It’s always interesting to see how much of a hold she has on this family. Not even her son can stand up to her. What makes you think your words mean anything to me? Become a man first Samuel."
"I wish I could stay and chat but this is the perfect time for me to jump in to sway your sister’s heart. Wish me luck," Timothy winked, going back to follow after Regina.
"Dammit," Samuel cursed, feeling the need to destroy something. He thought he finally had someone on his side. "Regina, you won’t get away with this."
Regina wasn’t keeping up her end of their deal. He didn’t care that she had gotten mad and called it quits. Once you make a deal with someone, you can’t just break it off. She was too stupid to realize what he was planning would benefit the both of them. He wasn’t just looking out for himself by trying to get rid of Minnie.
He was doing this so their mother could be free to do as she pleased in this home, for their father to be a proper man of the house, and for Samuel to be able to inherit everything he was meant to have. He didn’t like how Minnie controlled what they could and couldn’t have.
Now that Regina revealed her truth about Aurora, Minnie will look to punish her every chance she gets, and then Regina would want to work with him again. All he had to do was wait. This morning was payback for her hitting him over the head and lying.
"Good things come to those who wait," he reminded himself.
On the other hand, Timothy followed the familiar path to Regina’s room. His visit to her room might stir up a buzz with the maids but he cared more about seeing if Regina was alright. Someone had to check up on her considering none of her family members cared to do it.
He knocked on the door and then waited for a response.
"Go away!" He heard her yell from the other side.
"How could you leave me all alone in that awkward situation? First, take me out on a date before you wrap me up in this family drama."
The door slowly opened after she knew it was him. From her watery eyes and trembling hands, he knew she was very upset and came to her room to cry.
"I’m sorry," she apologized for forgetting to bring him along with her.
