Chapter 183: No one else (5)

"You let her go," Minnie stated the obvious truth she had always known. Of course, Regina was the one to help Aurora escape. She didn’t believe the girl’s lie for a second.

"Of course I did and now I am regretting that I didn’t run along with her. Don’t look so happy, I have no idea where she has run off to. And yes Samuel, I was the one that hit you over the head. Nothing felt greater than that," Regina grinned remembering the feeling as she watched him hit the ground.

"Y-You! How could you hit your own brother?" Samuel stepped forward visibly upset with his little sister. He had a gut feeling she had hit him but to hear her confirm it hurt him to the core. "You looked me in the face and lied. You looked everyone in the face and lied."

"So? Nothing new to this family. We’re all good liars," said Regina. How could they always point out her actions but never realize the things they have done? Samuel had lied to everyone here on many occasions. Like how he was pretending to follow Minnie when he was trying to remove her from controlling everything.

"You are pretty bold for admitting that in front of me, child. Do you know what you have cost me with Aurora’s escape? Why shouldn’t we disown you right away and toss you out on the street?" Minnie smiled and elegantly walked up to Regina but her smile had not reached her eyes.

Regina was smart enough to reveal this since she had a safety net. "Surely your eyes are working well grandmother. Since none of you were there to hear it, I had a wonderful conversation with Timothy and he will be here to pick me up tomorrow morning when I have to go to work."

"And? What does your new relationship have to do with us? Do you really think I’ll let it slide that you hit me over the head Regina?" Samuel clenched his fists wanting to get even with her but knew he couldn’t. Not when she had Timothy chasing after her.

"I have instructed him that if he does not see me, it means that my family has tried to kill me and he should use his connections in the palace to have all of you arrested," she tilted her head to the side and gave them an innocent smile. "We all know when it comes to power, Timothy’s family can make a mockery out of us. Well you," she chuckled. "He wouldn’t harm the person he’s in love with."

"Regina," Rachel gasped, taken aback by how Regina had plotted against them and was willing to have them arrested. They were family. Regina had no one else but the people standing before her. To say she would have them arrested was disrespectful.

"Not that we understand each other, I am going to bed. I need my beauty rest but I will see all of you at breakfast tomorrow. I expect that no one would be coming into my room to try and harm me tonight. That would be predictable which should be beneath all of you by now. Good night everyone. May you all have sweet dreams," Regina bid them farewell.

"That child, she reminds me so much of myself. How annoying I must have been to others," Minnie chuckled watching Regina leave them downstairs. Had Regina not been getting on her last nerves these days, Minnie would have taken Regina under her wing. Regina showed more use than Samuel.

"I cannot believe that girl," Rachel said, standing still shocked that Regina would recommend having her family arrested. "I am not going to let her off the hook with that," she started to march up the stairs behind Regina.

"Rachel, you look tired. I suggest you take a nap and worry about fixing the relationship you have with Nathaniel. Anyone with eyes could see that you two were not getting along. Fix it or it will be time for the two of you to divorce." Minnie no longer wanted to stay with them there. It was late and she wasn’t getting any younger.

"We are just going to leave her? She just admitted to allowing Aurora to get away and hitting me over the head. We can’t just leave her without a punishment," Samuel argued. Had any of them been hit over the head they would not leave Regina be.

"Samuel, the fact your sister outsmarted and hit you over the head is concerning because it shows how easily you can be tricked. Instead of trying to get your revenge, I suggest you try to see how she outsmarted you. Clearly, she wouldn’t have revealed this without having a safety net. Good night, all of you. Do not make a ruckus in my home," Minnie said then slowly made her way up the stairs.

Samuel felt the need to scream as Minnie had insulted him rather than take his side. He didn’t miss how amused Minnie looked by Regina for a moment. Now that Regina had Timothy, Minnie was willing to forgive her for everything. "Mother-"

"I know Samuel but there is nothing we can do right now. Just go to bed and see what happens in the morning. Do not cause any problems that will upset Minnie," said Rachel. She wasn’t going to let any of this slide but pissing off Minnie now was not a good idea.

"The two of you are to leave Regina alone," Nathaniel instructed the two. Since he was silent, they must have forgotten he was there. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

"Father, you were upset about losing Aurora. The perfect time to use her is near and we don’t have her with us."

"I am upset that we do not have her but I will not allow the two of you to go after Regina. My mistake was allowing Regina and Aurora to grow up so close. It’s no surprise she would help the girl escape. As I stand here I wonder where we go wrong as parents that our two children are against each other. Make amends with Regina." Nathaniel figured Regina was acting this way from missing Aurora and the lack of attention from her mother.

A little attention from Rachel could go a long way for Regina as long as it was genuine.

"Stop focusing on Samuel’s affairs and worrying about his future. I am taking care of that. Dedicate all of your time to Regina. Don’t make it just be about dresses and marriage. Start opening your eyes to the things our daughter likes. No arguing unless you wish to be sleeping in separate rooms again."

Rachel kept her mouth shut as she wanted them to be in the same room tonight. The last time they argued, Nathaniel did not sleep in their room and chose a guest room. Rachel felt like the servants and Minnie were laughing at her. Never again she told herself. Even if she couldn’t stand her husband, she was going to sleep with him to avoid gossip. They were perfect in everyone’s eyes and they should remain that way.

When Nathaniel had left, only Rachel and Samuel remained.

"Samuel."

"Yes, mother."

"I am tired of being mistreated in this house. From day one of my marriage I have been told what to do. I love your father but I love being in control more. I don’t want to be talked down to by Minnie or your father. You know I have sacrificed a lot for you, right? Come here," Rachel held out her hand for Samuel to take.

Cautiously, Samuel held onto his mother’s hand and allowed her to pull him close. "I know, mother."

"You are my only hope for having everything I want to be mine. I knew from the moment you were born that you wouldn’t fail me. Do not let your anger towards Regina stray you from what is important. You cannot allow others to see that she outsmarted you. Do you understand me, Samuel?" Rachel gripped his shoulder when he nervously looked everywhere but at her.

"I-I understand mother. I won’t fail you. I have been doing well with my father and meeting with all of his associates. There are a lot of people who won’t mind going against Minnie with me. All of this will belong to you soon mother. I will make you proud," Samuel promised. This other side of his mother scared him since his youth.

She placed all of her eggs in his basket and he was afraid to fail her. Samuel was stuck between his mother and Minnie using him. Why should he go through so many dangerous things to give others what they wanted? He wanted the power too but was scared to go against his mother.

"I am certain you will but you are getting distracted these days. I have waited too long, son. Start showing me some progress so I know you are on the right track. Do not fail me, Samuel. Do not fill me with lost hope. I brought you into this world and I will take you out of it for not keeping your promise. Remember, no one else cares for you as I do. Good night son," she kissed his forehead.
