Chapter 169: New beginnings (4)

"You know, I once thought your home was too lonesome in the past and there should have been more people coming in and out of it but now, I miss those days. I honestly won’t mind if you send out an order that no one is to come close to your home tonight but then again, the universe is so against us that vampires might attack," said Aurora.

She had little faith that she and Vincent would have some quality alone time without any distractions. After Derek left last night, she had already taken her bath and went to sleep. Now he was back here with the children.

"I will take care of it," he promised her. These interrupted moments will cease to exist after this morning. "Now, I won’t mind it if you want to join me but I have to freshen up before meeting the others. Someone occupied my mind the entire morning and I could not think straight."

"Do not blame me for not bathing. That was the first thing I got up to do. Maybe you are just nasty," she teased. Aurora went under his arms that were caging her to get away from him. There was something about his man scent that was doing something to her and the idea that it turned her on was grossing her out.

"I can read your mind and I know something that isn’t proper is on it. Are you going to go back telling me that I am an improper man? I will miss you saying it."

"You are an improper man. See," she poked his chest. "I think you preferred when I was shy, didn’t you? It doesn’t matter that it was always me. The Aurora you rescued and the one standing before you right now have slightly different personalities."

Vincent grabbed her finger to stop her from poking him and asked, "How does that work? Do you remember everything she or you, I don’t know what to call it, was living in that house?" freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"It’s hard to explain honestly. The real me was always conscious of what I was experiencing in that house but I couldn’t control my body. My soul was trapped with all the memories which would’ve helped free me. Some slipped here and there and that was what they considered to be me waking up. So yes, I remember everything. Every interaction and emotion my body felt. I still feel that you are improper but I don’t mind it."

"I won’t lie, the switch in your personality creeped me out last night but it is good to have you back."

"Uhm, just so the two of you know, I am still out here," Mari said from the other side of the door. They hadn’t responded to her telling them about Derek’s arrival with his family.

"I’ll be out now," Aurora responded to the poor girl who was probably going to fantasize about this now.

Vincent ran his tongue against his teeth becoming more frustrated but knew they would have time to be alone and continue their conversations. "Let me get the door for you. I told you, I am a gentleman."

"Right," Aurora rolled her eyes. He couldn’t fool her with that now that she remembered everything about him. "I will see you down here," she closed the door behind him.

Back on the way to the human town, Regina sat with her arms folded avoiding looking at Timothy Payne, her number one enemy from a young age. If she wasn’t so desperate to go to town there was no way she would ever get in the same carriage as him. She didn’t want him feeling as if she were her savior.

"Are you going to glare out the windows the entire time? I saved you just so you know. It could’ve been pretty dangerous for a Hamilton to be all alone in a broken down carriage. Why was it broken down anyway? Don’t tell me your family is becoming broke."

"Of course not you fool," she replied without looking his way. Anyone but him would be better but thankfully, they were almost in the town.

"Did they cut you off or is this a punishment?" Timothy asked, sitting back to watch the wave of emotions Regina was going through. It has always been fun to poke her because unlike many of her peers, she would always fire back. Some might call her behavior unladylike for someone with a background like Regina’s but he didn’t mind.

Regina remained silent hoping he would catch on that she wanted silence and hopefully shut the hell up.

"I heard your brother was going around looking for a husband for you. Why can’t you make up your mind on your own?" Timothy stated in hopes of catching her attention and he did. "I would love to know why the girl who has always hated marriage and anything to do with love has her brother searching for a partner."

"Why are you paying so much attention to my life Timothy? Don’t you have anything better to do?" Regina was furious Samuel let others know what he was doing. He was supposed to be silently looking for a partner so their family wouldn’t know.

"It concerns me after your brother approached with the idea that I should marry you. I was a little surprised by his visit because I am well aware you have disliked me for a long time but at the same time, my family has a lot of fortune anyone would want to marry into," he kept his gaze on her to see her reaction.

"This might also come as a surprise to you but I do not need your money, Timothy."

"I know you don’t right now but in the future you might. And I can’t help but think your brother was looking out for his best interests when he came to me. Why else would he propose marriage to a man he knows his sister dislikes?" Timothy saw right through Samuel the moment he arrived at his home with the offer.

Regina finally looked Timothy dead in the eye and asked, "Isn’t that what everyone has been doing since the start of this season? They’re all looking out for their own best interest and not love. Just because my family is wealthy does not mean they aren’t the same as everyone else. I am certain when you are looking for a wife you will marry someone who will benefit you."

"Right. However, I am right about your brother looking so desperate when he came to me. Don’t you want to know the things he whispered to me?" He smiled waiting for her to say yes and when she nodded her head he continued, "Regina might hate you now but I promise I can get her to listen to everything you want."

Regina wasn’t surprised to hear what Samuel said. Nothing about him surprised her these days. "If you think this will get me riled up, come again Timothy. I hope you are not thinking my brother approaching you should boost your ego. How great you must feel for thinking everyone wants to marry you."

"Oh, but they do. I come from a wealthy family and I have made a name for myself with my successful businesses. It just so happens that this year I am looking for a wife but no one has caught my interest as yet. At least not until the offer from your brother."

Regina stared at Timothy in disbelief that he was interested in a marriage between the two of him. Someone like Timothy Payne was the perfect man for her to marry and gain power but she didn’t want to marry someone she despised for the majority of her life.

Plus, she wouldn’t be able to get out of the marriage with him so easily when everything was said and done. He was related to the king which meant he could make it hard for them to separate.

She laughed thinking the man was messing with her just as he always did but it died down when he continued to have a straight face. "Are you serious? Please don’t tell me you secretly loved me in our childhood or something. Even though that is the only thing that would make sense I won’t believe it."

Timothy shook his head denying the claim. "I hated you when we were much younger but then I grew up and started to change. So did you. Suddenly, I noticed the girl I found annoying had become a beautiful young lady and I enjoyed our bickering."

"I once thought it would be funny if you and I ended up together and after your brother came to me it is all I have been thinking about. I am in need of a wife and for some reason, you are looking for a husband. What do you think about us getting engaged?"

"I like him," Esmeralda said beside Regina. From the moment his carriage pulled over she could see that he was smitten by Regina.

"I think you are as crazy as I have always believed," Regina replied.
