Chapter 156: Party mess (6)

Aurora touched the necklace to hide it away from the woman’s prying eyes. She realized the man who had stared at her was Vincent and Victor’s uncle. The woman with him had to be his wife. "Vincent gave it to me," she answered.

"Graham, how is he just giving that away to anyone? They’re not married therefore she should not be wearing it. It would do better in my hands for safekeeping," Cecilia took it upon herself to try and take the necklace from Aurora but Victor stopped her. "Don’t tell me you agree with your brother that she is allowed to wear it?"

"It is truly up to Vincent to give it to who he wishes. Aurora is not a bad choice for the necklace," Victor told Cecilia. Graham and his wife were only here for a short period of time and things were going left already. "The two of you look lovely tonight. Thank you for coming," he tried to change the topic. Cecilia should be smart enough to know Vincent would never allow for their mother’s necklace to be in her hands for ’safekeeping’. The woman was obsessed with expensive things.

Graham also disagreed with Aurora wearing the necklace but he was looking to cause a scene over it. The necklace would be in his hands sooner or later. "Leave it be Cecilia. We don’t know the exact relationship between Vincent and this young woman to know if she is not worthy of it. I should properly introduce myself since I didn’t do it at the trial. I am Graham Lawerence, uncle of the man you are staying with," he extended his hand out for Aurora to take.

"My name is Aurora," she replied but did not shake his hand. She was getting a weird feeling from him but couldn’t quite place what it was. The possibility that he could have been the one behind the death of Vincent’s parents had not left her mind. She didn’t know his character to give him the benefit of the doubt and be comfortable around the man.

Graham stopped holding out his hand waiting for her to shake it. He found Aurora’s action to be rude but he was here to first get to know the girl and as a backup plan they were going to kidnap her with the help of a distraction. "How has it been for you living amongst wolves?"

"It has not been too bad aside from what I heard at the trial. I find this place to not be any different from how humans live."

Cecilia scoffed, finding Aurora’s response to be ridiculous. Werewolves and humans should never be compared to each other. The werewolves community was most definitely superior in her eyes even though she had never seen how the humans lived in a long time. She had no need to leave the safety of the community gates.

Aurora ignored the reactions she was receiving from Cecilia as she knew not everyone would be a fan of her. She didn’t see the reason for the woman to dislike the things she was saying when it was her husband asking Aurora the questions and Aurora hadn’t walked up to them. They came to where she was standing with Cherry and Victor.

Aurora became thankful to see that Vincent was coming back to her side now that his uncle was here. She wanted to go back to her conversation with Cherry and Victor. Graham’s gaze on her was intense making her feel uncomfortable.

"Good evening uncle. Cecilia," Vincent greeted the pair. He raised his hands in his pockets keeping hold of something in there.

"Vincent," Cecilia beamed, happy to see the man. She knew her friends would be jealous to know she was with Vincent right now. They were already jealous that she had not only been able to get Graham’s attention but also marry him. "You look handsome tonight. Just like your father and uncle. All eyes are on you and Victor right now."

"They should be on Victor since he is the birthday boy."

"I don’t mind sharing the attention with you, brother. In fact, take all of it," Victor said. He was not one to enjoy having too much attention on himself. He preferred if the unwed women would go after his brother instead. This was why he didn’t want a party. A nice night at home with close friends and food would have been enough. At least there were gifts piling up to make him feel better.

"No thank you," Vincent declined the offer. He had talked to more than enough people since he separated from Aurora and no longer wished to mingle with any more of them. They should visit his home in the morning if it was an important matter and knew not to send their daughters his way because he was not interested. One would think they would learn that after all his rejections and by Aurora wearing his mother’s necklace.

"Come one. People can’t help keeping their eyes off the three of you. Who doesn’t want the chance to speak with anyone from the Lawrence family, especially the alpha? Put on your best smiles and prepare to meet with the people here to celebrate Victor getting one year older," Cecilia said. She wanted to mingle with the guest next to Victor and Graham. "I just remember something Vincent, why is this woman wearing your mother’s necklace?"

Aurora concluded that Cecilia was someone who loved to cause drama and couldn’t stand it when things wouldn’t go her way. Everyone else seemed to understand that the necklace wasn’t going to leave Aurora’s neck tonight. Why keep pushing to get it in her hands?

"Were you there with my mother she told me who I could give it to? You weren’t married to my uncle at that time. Were you perhaps one of our workers and I have never recognized you?" Vincent asked, pretending to think about the past.

Cecilia gasped, insulted that he would think she worked for his family. She had never once in her life served anyone as a worker. As much as she liked the Lawrence’s she would have never gone so low to work for them. Her aim was always to marry someone rich and how could she have done that by being a mere worker? "I did not work for your family Vincent. All I am saying is that the necklace was given to your mother by your father as a symbol of his love for her. Everyone knows that so how can you just place it on the neck of this girl?"

"Because I have feelings for her. Is that not more than enough reason?" Vincent honestly replied. "I was certain placing the necklace on her would make it obvious and the way I have been treating her but I guess there is more to be done to prove it."

"Don’t tell me you intend to take this woman as your wife one day? She is not a werewolf. Who knows what your children will be?" Graham interjected. While he disliked Vincent, he disliked it more when his family name would be tarnished. Being with someone not like you was a tradition stopped long ago for a good reason. Graham didn’t care that Aurora was connected to Artemis.

Aurora didn’t see why the conversation needed to drift to her relationship with Vincent. He chose to give her the necklace, what was the fuss about making him change his mind?

’We should kill that woman when we get the chance,’ she heard the voice in her head again. Aurora’s eyes widened because it was happening again. The pain in her chest was starting to come back again. Why now? Why couldn’t this be happening another day?

"Vincent," she called his name to alert him just as she had promised him in the carriage.

Vincent looked her way for a brief moment but the commotion at Victor’s door shifted everyone’s attention there.

"The vampires are approaching the wall. There is a group of them!" A guard yelled as he ran to where Vincent was. The gate guards were preparing to attack and he was sent to get Vincent. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

The guests at the party started to panic and worry since it had been a while since vampires came to attack them in a group.

"Victor, take Aurora to my home and keep her safe," Vincent ordered his brother but Victor had other plans. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"If the vampires are attacking you need every good fighter out there," Victor tried to reason why he should go along with Vincent.

"No, take Aurora home and I will not be arguing with you about this. I will knock you out to keep you here if I have to. Uncle, you will be coming with me instead," Vincent ordered Graham. It was best to have his uncle in his sights at a time when he had to leave Aurora.

"Of course," Graham easily agreed and followed behind Vincent without telling his wife goodbye. Cecilia knew what needed to be done with the distraction he had provided for Vincent.

Victor cursed under his breath but knew why his brother wanted him to stay with Aurora. "Cherry and Aurora, I will take the two of you to Vincent’s home. I don’t think I saw Mari ever arriving. Do you need a ride home, Cecilia?"

"No, I can find my own way home," Cecilia replied.
