Chapter 155: Party mess (5)
"Aurora! Excellent choice in the dress. Some people have dressed over the top for the occasion and now they are complaining about the heat. Like I can control that. They should have asked for my opinion on their outfits before tonight," Cherry hugged Aurora and then looked at Vincent. "You look good for once Vincent."
"Wish I could say that to you, Cherry," Vincent replied.
"You can’t because I look good all the time," Cherry spun around to show off her white outfit. "Like a bribe. This is the necklace causing all of the gossips?"
"We just came in, it has reached your ears already?" Aurora asked full of surprise. Cherry wasn’t anywhere near the entrance but she heard about the necklace before they reached her. "It’s crazy how fast gossip travels," she muttered, slightly amazed. How could they have spread around she was wearing the necklace so quickly? These people must be professionals.
"Anything that concerns the Lawerence family travels around quickly and you are the first outsider we had for a long time even though Victor and Vincent claim you were here before. I still have no memory of that as yet. Did I hit my head or something?"
"You were never good at remembering things, Cherry. Hence your marks in school. I’m surprised you are able to find your way home at night," Vincent teased her.
"I have good memory thank you very much-"
"She has short-term memory loss and she doesn’t remember when we tell her. Either that or she has gone senile from how old she is."
Cherry gasped hearing the wretched words about her age come from Vincent’s mouth. "You are older than me, you know. I don’t know why I pushed myself to be your friend when you are so rude. You don’t bring up someone’s age."
’Her and Victor are the same,’ Aurora thought.
"Why aren’t you and my brother together?" Vincent asked the question Aurora had been wondering herself.
Cherry poked Vincent’s side to stop him from mentioning something that was private. ’Do not try to switch the topic Vincent or I will enlighten Aurora about your love life. It is quite long given his age."
Vincent grabbed Cherry’s finger to stop her from annoying him with the poking. "How about I tell her your real name and the backstory?"
"Your real name isn’t Cherry?" Questioned Aurora at the revelation. She was curious to know Cherry’s actual name and the backstory but from the look of embarrassment on the woman’s face, she knew it wasn’t something meant to be shared. "Stop teasing her, Vincent."
"She’s the one that keeps messing with me," he said, releasing Cherry. Vincent didn’t see why she just wouldn’t use the name her parents had given her. It was not like it was an ugly name. Cherry on the other hand was a tad bit weird.
"Go mingle with the men trying to get your attention. I’ll take care of Aurora," Cherry said, pushing Vincent off into the crowd. "Go, go, go. No one is going to mess with us here when you are around and will no doubt have your eyes on Aurora. I don’t think I invited anyone that would be so stupid to try that."
"If you need me-"
"I will scream your name at the top of her lungs," Aurora finished the sentence for him. She was thankful he was giving her some space to hang out with someone. As much as she wanted to cling to him and use some of his confidence, she was glad he was helping her be on her own. Even if it was in a room full of werewolves. She was trying not to focus on that fact.
"Have fun Aurora and if a single strand of her hair is out of place, I will have one less friend after tonight," Vincent smiled before going off to meet a couple of people who wanted to talk about important matters.
"Why on earth does he smile when threatening people? Have you fallen for him yet?" Cherry abruptly asked partially because of the necklace. You don’t just give anyone your mother’s necklace. "The blush is giving it away. Did something happen between the two of you? Don’t tell me you..." she trailed off.
"Nothing happened between us. We don’t have that kind of relationship," Aurora told Cherry once again. Her heart was moved when he gave her the necklace but that was all. She did blush when seeing him casually walking around the home but who wouldn’t when he was always flaunting his muscles?
"You being lost in thought gives it away that something did happen but fine, don’t tell me. When you’re ready to get some advice on men, come to me. Hurry up and come to me because the hawks are eyeing your man. Technically, wolves are eyeing him but I’m sure you know what I meant." Cherry had a clear vision of the women who were looking at Vincent like they wanted to pounce on him. Clearly, they didn’t get the message that he was taken but she let them know tonight.
Cherry also kept her eyes on Victor and wasn’t pleased to see he was uncomfortable with the number of mothers surrounding him with their daughters. Those who knew Vincent was hard to get close to went after the more easy-going Victor with hopes that he would pick their daughter and that would be their way of being connected to the Lawerence family. freewёbnoνel.com
If she wasn’t here with Aurora she would have gone and chased the vultures away but what right was it for her to keep doing that when they were only friends and sooner or later Victor needed to get married.
Following Cherry’s gaze, Aurora saw that she had been staring at Victor who was talking to a handful of young ladies. "You like Victor," Aurora asked.
"Yes, but as you can see, there is a lot of competition. And yes, there was almost something between us years back but both of us are stupid when it comes to relationships and expressing the things we feel. We have hung out around each other many times since then and haven’t mentioned being together. I don’t know why I used my precious time to plan this party just for him to mingle with other women. I’m such a fool," Cherry smacked her face looking away from the sight of Victor.
Aurora on the other hand kept watching Victor and noticed he had glanced their way when Cherry looked away. Maybe he knew Cherry was looking his way? "I am not an expert when it comes to things like this but I don’t think Victor is going to be interested in any of those women and I might be dancing at your wedding to him."
"What makes you say that?" Cherry wondered, tapping away her tears when Aurora wasn’t looking. It was stupid of her to be crying over something like this.
"The look in his eyes as he is walking over here," Aurora waved to Victor as he approached them. "Do you need me to stall him or are you better now?" Aurora knew what Cherry was hiding and doing without having to look at her.
"I’m fine," Cherry quickly turned around to greet Victor. "How could the birthday boy run off and take so long to come back? Were you out there trying to guess what everyone brought as a gift?"
"No, I wasn’t. I got kept back by a few people and I was expecting you to save me but I saw you here with Aurora. Surprising that my brother actually agreed to let you be with Cherry but there is no doubt in my mind that he is watching you as we speak. How are you liking the party so far? Cherry was the one who did it so give all the credit to her," he patted Cherry on the back for a job well done.
Now that she was asked this question, Aurora started to look around to take in how Victor’s home was designed and decorated for the night. She was most fond of the lanterns hanging down from the ceiling and wondered how they were placed up there. As she kept looking around she noticed a man she had seen before walking toward the three of them but his eyes were focused on her.
"Victor, Cherry, nice to see the two of you. Happy birthday son," Graham greeted his nephew and his friend.
"Happy birthday," Cecilia, who had been following behind Graham, said as she placed a kiss on his cheek. "I placed your presents at the front. Who is your little friend here?" She pointed at Aurora. Cecilia didn’t see what the big deal was about this woman when she was dressed so plain. Was it the white hair that interested others? Who wanted to have white hair at such a young age? As was about to lose interest in Aurora, the necklace she was wearing stood out to Cecilia. "Why on earth do you have that?"
