"I was never a fan of those dresses when I was growing up. That was all my mothers doing but my father would allow me to dress in pants whenever my mother went away. Pants make it easier for me to get around while dresses get in the way. Now I dress how I want without caring about anyone’s opinion." Jane preferred this over constantly trying to keep up with fashion so no one would talk about her for being behind on trends.
"Alice Moon. Your mother used to give me nightmares and to be completely honest, she still scares me to this day. My family isn’t as rich as Jane’s and her mother would criticize the dresses my mother picked for me to wear. Alice used to make me hate myself for not being able to look as pretty as the other little girls," Cherry explained to Aurora. When it’s Aurora’s time to meet the dreaded woman she’ll see how unfiltered Alice was.
"I’m sorry. My mother can be harsh with her words when she doesn’t like something you do. Pay her no dusk when she does and eventually, she’ll go away or respond the same way she approached you and she’ll never approach you again," said Jane.
"Noted," Aurora replied and started to think of Minnie. She had seen how Minnie was to many of their guests who stepped out of line and figured if she survived Minnie, she could survive Alice. She had to give Minnie credit for being a successful ring leader for the women in their town.
"Truthfully, there are a lot more women you have to watch out for here. Vincent will be keeping an eye on the men you need to stay clear from. As the leader, he has many important parties to attend no matter how he tries to avoid them and he can’t leave you alone each time. Are you prepared to have all eyes on you when you step out the door by his side?" Cherry wasn’t trying to scare Aurora but help her prepare for the inevitable in the future. Vincent was the hottest topic here and on the way over to his home, Cherry heard a lot of gossip about his new rumored woman.
Many were claiming Aurora to be a seductress or a witch who had made the workaholic man fall for her charms using a spell. Some claimed Vincent had kidnapped and brought her here just to have his way with her. There was a small percentage of people that believed Vincent found his mate as they did in the old days when a wolf’s partner wasn’t necessarily always a wolf. Aurora reminded Cherry of an innocent deer captured by a wolf that kept toying with it.
Aurora subconsciously started to play with the braid that fell over her shoulder. "I’m accustomed to a lot of eyes being on me because of my white hair. The staring and whispering from all around, I have enough experience to be okay with it by now."
"That’s kind of sad," Cherry said, receiving nods of agreement from Jane and Mari. "I am in the same boat as you a little because of how others look at my red hair and the way I dress. Yet they can’t keep away from my shop to buy my fabulous dresses. Screw what anyone thinks. As long as you have the three of us you will be fine."
"Shouldn’t we add Vincent to the list? He’s the one who brought her here to us," Mari suggested to the group.
Cherry sighed, having to bring Vincent into this. "Fine but I still think the best group is just us four women. But now that we are on the topic of Vincent again, how is your relationship with him? I’m curious to know how that stubborn brute is with women."
"He’s been nice to me and teases me more than I like. We have been doing fine for the first day of living together."
"Not those simple details Aurora. I’m asking if you two have been here flirting with each other. Man and woman all alone in this big house, both attractive. There’s only one direction that this situation is going. I know you don’t think of him romantically but do you find yourself gushing over him? I can admit he’s an extremely handsome man," Cherry scooted forward in her seat to get the details. She had a front-row seat to this growing relationship that Vincent and Aurora did not see yet.
"I do look and think he’s a handsome man but my feelings haven’t changed. I still don’t think of him that way," Aurora replied feeling bad when Cherry’s shoulders slumped from the lack of information. She had just told the woman yesterday she and Vincent were not like what Cherry thought. "Was something supposed to magically happen overnight?"
"Well, yea. Vincent is rumored to have this charm that makes women fall for him quickly-"
"Sounds like a load of bullcrap to me," Jane interrupted Cherry. How did they go from wanting to talk about dresses to talking about Vincent and his charm? This conversation was all over the place.
"I’ve seen it happen with my own eyes where he’s made a woman fall for him on the spot. Their eyes get wide when they first glance at him, they lick their lips with excitement for something, and then they just start stuttering. That last part is because of how intimidating he is which might be the reason you don’t feel anything for him yet Aurora. If you need relationship advice feel free to come to me." Cherry decided to make it her mission to help Aurora score Vincent or was it the other way around since Vincent was the one with the one-sided crush?
"How are you going to give her relationship advice when the majority of yours have gone downhill and you’re in a tough spot with the man you currently love?" It sounded like the blind leading the blind to Jane. She was the only married one here so they should be coming to her instead.
"Exactly why she needs to come to me. I’ll tell her what not to do," Cherry replied, making the other three women laugh.
