Elara pointed the leather belt at Nadia’s face. Her eyes were ice cold. "You may be my birth mother, but that doesn’t protect you. I’m not hitting you only because we share blood. Otherwise, you’d be next!"

"Zack, look what she did! My sister’s gone insane!" She pressed her face against his chest. "She attacked me for no reason. It hurts so bad..."
"No reason?" Elara’s voice cut through the room like a blade. She took a step forward, her eyes blazing. "You want to tell him what you did, or should I?"
Selina’s grip on Zack tightened. For a split second, he caught the scent of her fear mixed with something else - guilt.
