Chapter 85: Chapter 85 New Faces, Old Mysteries
Elara
The next morning, Nancy showed up right on time at Park Hotel Group.
At twenty-seven, she had graduated from Luna Academy and worked in investment banking. She was definitely qualified for the job.
She just needed to learn our local tax codes and financial systems.
"Elara," Nancy greeted me with a polite smile.
I nodded. "Nancy, your resume is impressive. I hope your skills live up to it."
She smiled back confidently. "Don’t worry, I’ll let my work speak for itself."
I walked Nancy to the finance department myself.
This showed everyone how important this CFO position was.
Finance was the heart of the entire company’s operations, so it needed special attention.
"Starting today, Director Nancy will be in charge of the group’s finances. Please work with her," I announced to the department staff.
After that, I went back to my office. I was still dealing with the Leo situation.
The case had reached its end - he refused to say anything more, so I could only have him locked up for a few days and fined a few thousand dollars before everything was dropped.
When Hannah heard about this, she was pissed.
"Elara, why does he get off that easy? Can’t we make more problems for Leo?" she asked.
I laughed. "That’s all we can do legally, but his reputation is totally ruined. Trust me, this killed his career."
His real problems would start later, but that was for another day.
"Elara, what about those rugby tickets you mentioned? Did Alpha King like them?" Hannah asked, switching topics.
I rubbed my forehead. I hadn’t seen Dominic for two days.
I left early and came home late, plus I stayed in my room whenever possible.
We lived in the same place but acted like strangers.
"Not really. He didn’t like them. Or maybe I just screwed everything up," I said.
After I told her what happened, Hannah came up with a pretty wild theory. "Elara, what if Alpha King was jealous!"
I was confused. "Jealous of what?"
"No, no - maybe he was upset because you were trying to set him up with someone else? What if he wanted you to go to the game with him?"
I stopped cold. "Hannah, remember he’s gay?"
"...Right, I guess," Hannah said.
"But what if he’s straight now?" Hannah suggested, then quickly added, "Probably not. Unless he’s bi? That would be kind of weird."
"Whatever. You only have a one-year marriage contract, right? After that year, I’ll set you up with several hot straight guys!"
I laughed. "Alright, I need to go. I have work to do."
That afternoon, I was so busy that I didn’t realize it was almost time to leave until my phone rang.
"Aunt Elara, where are you?" The unexpected call came from little Orion.
"Orion, I’m still at the office," I replied, surprised.
"Hehe, Aunt Elara, I had the driver bring me near your building," he said happily. Then he got shy. "Aunt Elara, Molly really liked the hair clip you bought last time. I want to buy another one, okay?"
"Will you come with me to buy it?"
"Orion, did you tell your grandpa and dad that you were coming to see me?"
"I did! Grandpa said it was fine for me to hang out with you."
Since he had permission, I had no reason to refuse.
"Alright, I’ll come down right away. Stay in the car like a good boy."
There was a shopping mall right next to our office building. Perfect for a quick shopping trip with the little guy.
I quickly packed up my stuff and headed to the elevator.
As the elevator doors were about to close, I heard someone call out, "Wait—"
Someone inside quickly pressed the hold button.
I raised an eyebrow when I saw who it was. "Nancy, calling it a day too?"
Nancy smiled gently. "Yes, it’s my first day, so I was getting familiar with the company’s workflow. Time just flew by."
Making conversation, I asked, "Do you drive?"
"No, I just got back here. I still need to get a local driver’s license."
I nodded. The elevator reached the lobby pretty quickly.
"Well, I’ll be going now. See you tomorrow," I said.
Nancy responded quietly, "See you tomorrow."
