Chapter 115: Chapter 115 Shattered Trust
Elara
I could tell Nancy was smiling, but something about it didn’t reach her eyes. Behind that brave face, I sensed the raw pain of betrayal. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
No matter how tough you are, finding out someone you love is cheating feels like getting stabbed in the heart.
As we walked through the parking garage, I made an impulsive decision.
"Want to go for a drink?" I suggested gently.
Nancy’s hand froze on her car door handle. After a brief pause, she nodded. "Yes. I’d like that."
Before long, we were sitting in a dimly lit bar, and Nancy was downing drinks faster than I could keep track. My attempts to pace her were completely useless.
"That complete bastard!" she slurred, her voice getting louder with each drink. She slammed her glass down so hard I was surprised it didn’t crack. "If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have even come back from Boston. And he has the nerve to cheat on me!"
She leaned forward, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. Her mascara was starting to smudge at the corners. "You know who that woman was, Elara? His secretary! I can’t even imagine how long they’ve been hooking up."
Nancy’s hands shook slightly as she reached for another drink. Her voice cracked. "All because I wanted to wait until marriage. That’s all it took for him to find someone else."
My heart ached for her.
"Nancy, slow down," I warned, trying to take away her glass. "No worthless cheater deserves this much of your energy."
"If you’re having second thoughts, it’s not too late to go back to Boston," I added.
Nancy tilted her head, her cheeks flushed red and eyes slightly unfocused.
"Hell no!" she declared, swaying slightly. "If I leave, it’ll look like I’m the one who’s ashamed. I’ve done nothing wrong!" freewebnσvel.cøm
She fumbled for her phone. "I’m going to call my family right now. I’ll tell everyone about his affair. I’m not the one at fault here. He can’t make me feel guilty about this."
I couldn’t help but laugh. Drunk Nancy was adorable.
During the day, she projected such a powerful image. The way she’d gone full savage mode on her cheating ex and that side chick had been epic.
But now, with alcohol in her system, she looked so different.
Pouty lips, flushed cheeks, and those fiery eyes. Her usually perfect hair was slightly messed up, and her lipstick had worn off from all the drinking.
If I were a man, I’d probably fall for her in an instant.
"It’s okay," I soothed. I reached over and squeezed her hand reassuringly. "There are plenty of good men out there. If this one doesn’t work out, we’ll find you someone better."
Nancy leaned back against the sofa, throwing her arms wide. She nearly knocked over the cocktail menu in the process. "You’re absolutely right!"
Just then, my phone buzzed loudly on the table between us. The vibration of my phone interrupted us. I quickly answered.
"Hello, Dominic. I’m going to be home late tonight."
"My friend just broke up with her fiancé," I explained.
Nancy, overhearing this, slurred loudly: "I didn’t get dumped! I dumped Ben! That cheating piece of trash can go to hell!"
Dominic’s voice came through the speaker after a pause. "Are you at a bar?"
"Yes, we’re at Nighttime Bar," I replied, quickly reaching out to steady Nancy who was starting to tilt sideways. "Got to go. Talk later."

Dominic sat in Yardley’s study, both men nursing cups of coffee. He paused mid-sip, processing what he’d just heard through the phone. He set his cup down with a slight smirk and stood up. His protective instincts kicked in immediately. "Yardley, I’m heading out. Need to pick up my mate."
Yardley’s hand stilled on his coffee cup. He recognized the voice in the background. It was that Nancy woman. Something flickered in his expression before he carefully masked it with indifference. He looked up, his tone casual. "Want me to come along?"
"No thanks," Dominic replied with a chuckle. He was already grabbing his keys and jacket. "Dude, picking up my own mate isn’t something I need help with."
Yardley’s jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. He watched his brother head for the door with obvious urgency.
"Territorial bastard," he muttered under his breath.
His brother’s possessiveness was off the charts these days.
Yardley picked up his phone before finally sending a message: [Find out what happened with Nancy Miller engagement.]
