Chapter 109: Chapter 109 Return to Luna Academy

Elara

My dozen or so classmates from Luna Academy all looked shocked.

In the past, I’d always maintained a cool exterior but was unfailingly polite. For some, that politeness translated as weakness—an invitation to be taken advantage of.

Behind my back, through the academy’s gossip network, the girls used to whisper: "Our little half-blood princess acts so superior, but her wolf is pathetically weak. How does she always outperform us purebloods in every assessment?"

Charlotte had always pretended to be dismissive of me, but in reality, she was eaten up with jealousy.

After graduation, she’d tried to recruit me as her pack’s subordinate.

When I declined, she took it as a personal insult, convinced that a mixed-blood like me could never truly become the Luna of a powerful Alpha.

Among those who had shown up today, the ones taking shots at me were all Charlotte’s loyal followers.

"Really, Elara? You’re actually running a company now?" Charlotte smirked. "I seem to recall you vanishing after graduation. What respectable pack would hire a half-breed anyway?"

The disbelief in her scent was obvious.

My eyes flashed dangerously. I opened my mouth to put Charlotte in her place.

But Hannah, who’d been holding her tongue, beat me to it. "Believe it or don’t. Your choice. But speaking of good memory, I remember when your father got kicked out as Beta. You couldn’t even find a decent job after that. Still living off your family’s money, aren’t you?"

"You—!" Charlotte sputtered.

I suppressed a smile. "Weren’t we here to visit Professor Williams? If you all want to continue this petty pack politics, Hannah and I will go ahead."

Jessica quickly backed me up. "Exactly! Professor Williams said her office hours end at four today."

The group fell silent. We headed toward the administration building.

When Professor Williams saw her former students arriving with bags of gifts, she became visibly emotional.

Her hand flew to her chest as tears welled up in her eyes. "You coming to visit is gift enough! I’ll accept the flowers, but take everything else back with you!"

Jessica exchanged knowing glances with the other girls, who quickly set their packages by the door. freewёbnoνel.com

"We didn’t bring anything, Professor," one of them laughed. "We just missed you and wanted to see you!"

Professor Williams looked at the faces that had once been so young and fresh. She clasped her hands together, a nostalgic smile spreading across her weathered features. She reflected on how much they had all grown since their academy days.

From what she’d learned through the alumni network and occasional updates, some had become Lunas, others had distinguished themselves in pack politics, business, or inter-pack relations.

Her gaze settled on Elara, standing slightly apart from the others.

The professor’s expression softened with genuine warmth, her eyes crinkling at the corners.

"Elara! You came too!" Professor Williams stepped forward, her voice thick with emotion.

Elara felt a lump in her throat. "Professor Williams, I had to come see you. I’m doing well these days."

"I knew you would be! Your mixed blood has never been the most important thing. Ability and character are what make you shine in any pack. And look how beautiful you’ve become!"

Elara smiled softly. "Professor Williams, you haven’t aged a day yourself."

"Well, I can see you haven’t just gotten more beautiful. You’ve gained real confidence and presence! That’s what true growth looks like." Professor Williams beamed with pride, her chest puffing out like a mother showing off her successful daughter.

Professor Williams had always worried about half-bloods like Elara.

At Luna Academy, most girls came from pure bloodlines. Mixed-bloods often faced exclusion and pressure. She had been concerned that such treatment might hurt Elara’s confidence.

Now, even after just a brief exchange, she could see Elara had grown stronger.

That seemed to put the professor at ease.

Charlotte had been watching this touching reunion with growing irritation. Her fingers curled into fists at her sides, and a muscle in her jaw twitched as she witnessed the obvious favoritism.

The scent of her jealousy grew sharper, tinged with barely controlled rage.

Charlotte’s expression darkened, her jaw tightening as she watched the exchange. She stepped forward deliberately, inserting herself into the conversation with calculated timing.

"Well, Professor," Charlotte said with a nasty smile, her voice dripping with false sweetness that didn’t reach her cold eyes, "our former half-blood valedictorian is working at some human hotel now. Seems she couldn’t make it in wolf society after all. Had to settle for the human world."

She crossed her arms and tilted her head mockingly, waiting for the professor’s reaction with obvious satisfaction.
