Chapter 91: Chapter 91

"Hey, Ivan!" Alois walked up to the Captain of the archery club with Dio in tow. "I brought a new member to the club, he’s great at shots, could he take my place in the competition?"

Ivan slowly turned around, looking from grinning Alpha to blank-faced Alpha. "You’re not getting out of this competition, Alois." He said dryly. "Who’s the newbie?" He added, leaning against a table.

"This is Dio, he hit a bullseye on his first try." Alois bragged like it was his achievement.

Ivan studied Dio intently, "Could be a fluke but he’s welcome to the club either way. I’m Ivan, the Captain, welcome to the club." He offered his hand.

Dio took it hesitantly like he still wasn’t sure what was going on. He hadn’t exactly been a contributing member of the cooking club so it wouldn’t hurt to give archery a try.

Alois stood off to the corner while Ivan held a one-sided conversation with Dio. The Archery club Captain was unfazed by this, as long as the Alpha knew how to shoot an arrow, he had no issues whatsoever.

Alois knew that Ivan wouldn’t accept his request but he had to try anyway. The archery competitions were taking forever to begin, he had to check on Cecil. He wondered where his roommate wandered off to, finding him in this big crowd of people would be a little difficult.

"...os ... Alois?" Ivan’s voice broke into his thoughts.

"Huh?"

"The competitions are about fucking start, get out on the range." He scolded, tempted to physically boot Alois away.

Dio was a little distance away, immersed in studying more specially made bows and arrows.

Ivan walked over to him, pleased with the interest he was showing in archery. Most of the applicants the club got were students who just wanted to play around with some bows and arrows, most of them slacking off or leaving the club entirely when their aim didn’t improve.

It wasn’t very often the club got new members with potential and an unwavering interest. "Want me to show you how to hold that bow?"

Henri looked from Alois and Dio who were heading away to Louis who looked a little lost. "You don’t mind? You’re both in the cooking club after all." He said without judgment, moving over to get a look at the arrows.

Louis shrugged. "It’s allowed to be in more than a single club. Dio is free to do as he wishes." He said, keeping his eyes down.

It was better to not address the fact that he expected Dio to turn to him for his opinion even though he knew well that Dio had merely been following his own hobbies. It was a weird mix of guilt and disappointment.

Someone reached for the same bow as Henri making them both look up at the same time. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

Louis frowned at this, already heading over.

Recognition clicked behind Henri’s eyes. "Slade?"

"It’s an honor for your Highness to remember me." The dark-skinned Alpha said with a slight bow, handing the arrow to Henri.

Henri scoffed, taking the arrow absently. "There’s no reason to be so humble. Are you looking for Alois?"

Louis joined the conversation at this point, "You know him?" He said to Henri, studying the senior with distrustful eyes.

"He’s Alois’ older brother," Henri explained simply.

Slade’s silver eyes twinkled with mirth. "You don’t want him hearing that, we’re family friends at best." He said lightly.

Henri made a move to step further along the table but tripped and lost his balance, Slade steadying him with a hand. ƒrēewebnovel.com

Henri’s apology was cut short by the tittering of a nearby group of Omegas. A cold shiver went down his spine when he realized that it was the same group that had followed them all the way from the racecourse.

Louis had been distracted this entire while, trying to figure out how Alois and Slade were siblings as they both looked nothing alike.

"Thank you." Henri muttered, taking another step and losing his balance again. ’Why did the bloody ground have to be so bloody uneven?’ And just as he feared, the Omegas gave a reaction when Slade caught him again.

"I believe the ground is quite uneven where you’re standing," Slade noted, a gentle arm on Henri’s arm to keep him from meeting the grassy ground.

Alois sighted them from afar and hurried over to put himself between Slade and Henri, only for Henri to lose his balance again and have them both reach for him at the same time.

"I’m fine." Henri said tightly, holding onto the table for balance as he carefully walked off the uneven spot.

Louis had walked over to his side and he was certain the lines on his forehead increased with the Omegas’ reactions to his series of unfortunate events.

Alois eyed up Slade suspiciously. "Why are you here?"

Slade seemed amused by his hostility. "To watch you compete of course, what do you take me for?" He said cordially, reaching out to ruffle Alois’ hair.

Alois ducked reflexively, used to Slade sticking things to him whenever he touched him. He especially knew how painful it was to get tape out of his hair.

"We’ll watch you from the seats." Henri said to them both, eager to put distance between himself and the two adoptive brothers.

They were just as popular as he was among the masses but he couldn’t help but feel like the Omegas stalking him weren’t simply admiring their nobility.

"Watch your step." Louis said, watching Henri attentively.

Henri listened to him because the last thing he needed was to have Louis steady him as well and give the Omegas more horrendous ideas. What made it even worse was that he seemed to be the only one noticing their unrivaled attention on him and every Alpha he interacted with.

When they both found a seat, Henri searched for Alois and Slade. It was easy to find them because they both stood out in their own way.

Slade was slightly taller than Alois, his white-blond hair absorbing the morning sun and seeming to glow. He was also tripping Alois, catching his younger brother before he hit the ground, Alois’ look of rage palpable from where they sat.

It was why Alois refused to admit that Slade was his older brother, which was ironic considering that he followed the Alpha everywhere when they were much younger.

To answer the question evident in Louis’ eyes, Henri said, "Slade’s mother died in childbirth and his father died a few months after on the war front. His father was a high-ranking officer so General Follet decided to adopt Slade."

It was a well-known story so it was a little ridiculous for Alois to try to keep it a secret but Henri wasn’t going to judge.
