Chapter 61: Chapter 61
Henri warily eyed up Seton, it was too much of a coincidence for the scheming Alpha to meet him in such a deserted place the one time he was alone. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"What do you want?" He asked bluntly, crossing his hands.
Seton didn’t look much different in the time that had passed, his eyes only looked a bit fevered, a hint of mania to them as he stared unblinkingly at Henri. "You make it out like we’re enemies." He said simply.
"It’d be foolish of me to take you as a friend, did you come here just to make small talk?" Henri asked impatiently.
The tall Alpha raised his hands in surrender. "Fine. I just wanted to make use of the favor you owe me." He said, smiling humorlessly.
Henri’s mouth went dry, he dreaded the day that this moment would come but Seton kept to his word and Dio hadn’t been hounded ever since. He had no choice but to hold up his own end of their agreement.
"And what do you want?" He asked cautiously.
Seton silently looked him over, looking like there was something he wanted to say but decided against. "It’s nothing tedious. I’m certain you’ve heard of the field trip, I just want to be in your group, that’s all."
Henri’s hackles rose at this, it was such an odd request that he hadn’t seen it coming. Seton was right, it wasn’t a difficult request but it wasn’t an easy one either.
It was no secret that the three monsters couldn’t stand Seton, and with how attached to each other Errol and Nael had grown recently, the other Alpha was bound to be in their camping group as well. It wasn’t an easy request for Henri to grant.
He couldn’t ask Seton to make another request though, he would just have to stand it for four days and then that would be the end of whatever relationship they had.
"Very well." Henri accepted reluctantly.
Seton grinned, taking Henri’s hand like he was prone to doing. "Lovely doing business with you, your Highness."
Henri watched him leave with a furrow in his brows, he couldn’t help but feel like he had made a grave mistake. Telling the others about this would also be a hassle.
Henri stalled as much as he could about telling his friends about Seton asking to be in their camping group. He knew that they would ask questions about it and he would have to tell them the truth.
What he didn’t expect was for it to be quite easy...
The weekend before the camping trip, they were all seated at the cafeteria for the first time since the early days of resumption, even Errol was present.
They were also discussing who would complete their group so it seemed like a good time as any for Henri to finally tell them.
"Good." Nael muttered darkly when Henri broke the news.
"What?" Henri spluttered. He had been beating himself up for weeks only for that to be the response.
"There will be no murdering of Seton and throwing of his body into the lake." Errol sighed warily at the matching look of mischief Nael, Audie, and Valentin immediately sported.
Louis had no personal opinions of the matter because he hadn’t exactly had any interactions with the Alpha in question, or at least, he thought he hadn’t.
"That’s awfully specific, Errol." He murmured, helping Dio peel an apple.
"We’ll try not to kill him." Audie said amicably.
"Don’t even make an effort." Errol cautioned.
"Why did you agree to it though?" Nael asked quietly.
Henri had expected that to be the first response. "I made a deal with him."
This caught everyone’s attention, and silence filled the table, almost like they were too scared to ask.
"I just owed him a favor and this is how he wanted me to pay back." Henri added more context.
"What favo..." Errol started to ask but Louis spoke first.
"And why did he ask..." He trailed off as well when he realized that he was speaking over Errol.
All eyes drifted to Henri again as they waited for him to give answers. "I don’t know why he asked to join our group and the favor is a personal matter." He said guardedly.
The silence stretched on even longer, no one seeming to have anything to say.
This was more along the lines of the reception that Henri had been expecting to get. He was relieved that they were all taking it better than he expected.
"Well, there’s no need for us to be so gloomy." Errol spoke up, the one to break the tense silence. "We might be in the same group but it doesn’t mean the entire trip is ruined..."
At that point, two people walked over, a bright-faced, freckled Alpha pulling a dark-haired Alpha behind him. "Hi! Sorry to interrupt your conversation but do you perhaps need more people in your group?"
A glum Jann behind him muttered. "Do you know what you’re saying? Of course, they’re already full..."
"Oh, hi Cedric, we actually have space for two more if you don’t mind." Louis was the one to respond as they were both in the same club.
Jann immediately brightened, "Really? Awesome! Thanks, class rep!" He cheered, dragging Cedric behind him as he went.
The weeks after the first announcement of the camping trip was filled with students trying to create and join groups so it would be quite difficult to find an incomplete group merely two days before the event.
Their group was missing three people and they had planned to discuss how to recruit more people to complete their group over drinks at the cafeteria but everything just seemed to fall right into place.
"And we’re finally complete." Valentin announced happily, he had insisted on being the leader of their group and the others let him. He surprisingly took his responsibilities quite seriously.
The table started to disperse, everyone needed to be somewhere else. Henri took this chance to have a word with Errol, concern in his smoky eyes.
"Seton’s presence doesn’t bother you, does it?" He found himself asking, although there was nothing he could do to change it.
He had never learned the exact details but he had eventually found out that they had separated, Errol having to move out of their shared dorm room.
"Not as much as I thought it would." He said honestly, looking at Henri with kind eyes. "You also don’t have to shoulder your burden alone, we all wouldn’t hesitate to help."
Henri glanced behind him to see Dio chasing Audie who stole the apple that Louis had peeled for him but he refused to eat, Louis desperately tried to diffuse the situation while Valentin and Nael cheered them on.
"I know." Was his simple response.
It really wasn’t that big a deal but Henri couldn’t bring himself to tell them the deal he had made with Seton, there was no reason to. After the camping trip, it would all be over.
