Chapter 42: Chapter 42
Although all three of them had been homeschooled for the same duration of time, Louis was the first to adjust.
Few students did approach Henri, the few that were brave enough to ignore his cold expression. None stayed long enough after exchanging pleasantries. The Omega Prince was a little terrifying.
Dio on the other hand was blatantly avoided, the class slowly but surely gravitating towards Louis. He charmed the entire class effortlessly, all of them already eating out of his hand by the time the professor showed up.
Henri was pleasantly surprised by this, perhaps it bothered him a little to have so many people flock around Louis but mostly it was him appreciating how Louis had a natural affinity for gathering followers.
Dio on the other hand wasn’t taking to it well, his hands were in his laps and as he watched more people gather around Lou, all laughing at something he said, he absently scratched at his wrists. Louis used to be all his but now there were just so many people that wanted a little bit of his attention, it made his single green eye grow murky.
"Settle down now," Hoskins called out, placing a pile of books on the large desk in front of the class. "Students of Alpha Academy must be as noble as the stately school at all times." He added haughtily, making no attempt to hide the look of contempt in his eyes when he glanced over at Henri. What made bile rise higher in his throat was the fact that Prince Henri hadn’t even been paying attention to him.
"We-Well..." He cleared his throat, slightly satisfied when the class listened to him. "I am your class professor, Sir Hoskins and you will refer to me as such." He enunciated, staring straight at Henri who was blatantly ignoring him again.
Another bout of obnoxious throat-clearing caused some snickers among the class but Hoskins was too busy obsessing over Henri to catch who it was. "I will be here every morning for your roll call. If you are to be absent, be certain to see me to request permission." He continued in a much-deflated voice.
By now some of the students in the class had gotten bored of him, conversations starting up. Hoskins clearing his throat again only added fuel to the fire, laughter mixing in with the speaking voices.
"We will also be choosing the class representative this morning!" He announced a tad desperately, snagging the attention of his class once more.
"I will give the class the opportunity to recommend suitable candidates while I will retain the full power of the final decision." He hurried on to say, mischief gleaming in his eyes.
He expected that Prince Henri would be chosen due to his popularity and he had already begun plotting on how he would deny him the opportunity to have the position.
"That’s easy, it should be Louis!" A familiar voice called from the back. It was none other than Jann, Henri’s dark-haired dorm room neighbor.
The entire class immediately supported this as well, Louis being the sole contender for the position. freēwēbnovel.com
Hoskins could not protest this, he had been the one to suggest that they recommend candidates after all. If he had known that this was how it would turn out, he would have done the picking himself so he could finally get a chance to stand above royalty. But wouldn’t that be a bit redundant? Personally picking out a candidate only to turn them down the opportunity to win.
And so Louis was made the class representative of 1-A. Hoskins’ importance instantly evaporated, the class clamoring for Louis to be the one to make the roll call instead. How was it possible for him to be replaced out of his own duty by a mere student?
Hoskins tried to protest this and went ahead to doggedly do the roll call only to not have a single student respond to him, his gray-speckled mustache trembled in his disbelief but in the end, there was naught he could do but hand the duty over to Louis and flee the class.
Excited cheering followed his departure, to signify Louis doing the roll call.
Louis scratched at his tawny hair, overwhelmed, he hadn’t been expecting this kind of profound support from his classmates. He also felt like he should say something to scold them for treating their class professor in that manner. "I don’t think you should have all done that to Sir Hoskins." He said tentatively.
"Boo! Hoskins deserved it!" Someone from the left corner called back.
"No one likes him!"
"We all know he foisted himself into this class because Henri was slated to be here!"
Louis couldn’t say anything more after that, he personally had nothing against their class professor and they hadn’t exactly done something illegal. "Fine, Fine, It’s time for the roll call!"
The class was enthusiastically cooperative, a stark contrast to how they had treated Hoskins.
Henri was once again caught off-guard, it would seem that Louis had the kind of personality that everyone couldn’t help but gravitate towards.
Dio remained quiet, his eyes fixed on Louis who shone brightly at the front of the class. Louis often cut his nails which was fortunate at the moment or Dio’s wrists would have begun bleeding from how hard he kept scratching at his wrists.
Louis however was oblivious to this, his eyes were being opened to a new aspect of life. As a social person who never really had any friends except for Dio, he soaked up the attention, handling his new responsibilities with ease.
After fifteen more minutes of this, Louis returned to his seat, the first professor came in afterward, it was a tall, lanky Alpha with a somber expression and round-framed glasses. He was to be taking them in Mathematics.
Louis settled behind his desk and instinctively looked to Dio but before he could notice anything amiss, another student from the other side called for his attention, and then the Math professor wanted to know who was the class representative. The first two classes went by in this manner, every student engrossed in their first day of school work.
