Chapter 161: Chapter 161
Sounds of rustling, footsteps, and strained voices floated over, it was evident that the people searching for them were passing by. As soon as it went quiet again, Audie drove his knee into Jacques’ side, his heated face still not cooling down. "Do that again and you’ll be losing teeth."
Jacques had a poker face on, wisely putting some distance between them. "Do what? My hands were occupied and you don’t listen, I was just keeping you quiet."
Audie didn’t want to talk about it any longer, he had another scenario to add to his ever-growing list of memories affected by selective amnesia. He was plunged into despair, his first kiss was supposed to be with a sweet Omega. Why did he have such terrible luck when it came to romance?
Jacques already seemed to have moved on, "We should find a spot to hide in for now." He said thoughtfully, "Moving around is dangerous because we’ll just end up bumping into those guys."
Audie was hardly listening, he was still leaning against the tree trunk mourning his loss. His shirtsleeves were rolled up as usual, and even his hiking clothes weren’t spared from his sloppy dressing.
"Pretty sure we should find a cave of sorts nearby," Jacques went right on, walking off in the opposite direction from where they had heard the voices come from.
Audie pushed up from the tree trunk and followed after him, the adrenaline in his bloodstream was draining away and he was starting to feel the bruises and cuts on his body from tussling around.
He also thought about the rest of their group, it had happened so quickly but Alexander and Valentin had run off together, he hoped that his friend was alright.
He knew that Henri was with Claude so they should also be fine but the rest of their group that had gone off to gather wood and fruits hadn’t been heard from. He hoped that they would stay away from the campsite although he doubted that happening.
The pace that Jacques set was a brisk walk which was a relief because Audie didn’t think he was up for another frantic dash.

While the other pairs that had run off in different directions had fairly peaceful experiences, Claude and Henri were at the other end of the extreme.
Naturally, the majority of the attackers had gone after them seeing as Henri was their main target and the rest were just collateral damage.
Henri was currently clutching Claude’s dagger as he hid behind a tree, sounds of clanging swords coming from behind him. He panted as he leaned heavily against the trunk, this was nothing like a peaceful vacation.
The situation was yet to be explained to him but from what he knew they wanted to assassinate him. Now why the fuck would anyone want to do that? He hadn’t even done anything.
Henri had spent his whole life cooped up in the castle, the only thing he had done really was to attend college. Was that a crime now?
Claude had told him to go for lethal spots if he got attacked and Henri wasn’t pleased to hear that. Not because he cared about the well-being of the people who were trying to murder him but because he already felt a bit woozy, and the sight and smell of blood weren’t going to help his situation. freewebnσvel.cøm
But when one of the Alpha broke free from the ranks of Alphas that Claude was single-handedly holding off and came gunning for him, Henri didn’t hesitate to slice into his neck, a look of disgust on his face when he got blood on the tips of his fingers.
He jumped back when the Alpha crumbled to the ground, stepping out of the cover of the tree when Claude called his name, waving the bloody dagger at the Alpha who had his sword buried into the side of an attacking Alpha lying under his foot.
Henri had to duck behind the tree once more when an arrow breezed past him. He barely had the time to catch his breath, he wondered just how Claude was able to hold his own. He might have offered to help but even in his best state, he would probably just be a nuisance to the Alpha.
Right after Henri ducked for safety, Claude sent flying a dagger that he had pulled off another attacker at the one that had shot the arrow, the dagger embedding itself in the Alpha’s middle. He stared down at it in disbelief as he slowly fell to his knees and keeled over.
Claude had been merciless right from the start, anyone who wished the Prince harm deserved to die - he made the fucking rules.
He immediately went to Henri’s side when the group that had ambushed them was wiped out, there was more where they came from, they needed to keep moving. It was unfortunate that they were being chased deeper into the woods, it meant that they would have to deal with this without external help. frёewebηovel.cѳm
"I apologize for making you do that." He murmured when he saw Henri’s bloody dagger upfront and the unconscious Alpha lying at his feet.
Henri scoffed, "There’s no need to be so formal," He said, stiffly handing the dagger over to the other. "I don’t want to have to do that again though, I got blood on my fingers."
Claude’s lips twitched, "How do you feel about a blunt weapon?" He asked indulgently, taking the dagger and Henri’s wrist so they could continue their escape.
Henri seriously considered this, a blunt weapon meant less blood. "Is it heavy?" He found himself asking. He had no arm strength to talk about, a sharp weapon would be a better option if that was the case.
Claude had just asked that to make conversation, he had no intention of making Henri get his hands dirty again. "It is, leave the fighting to me then."
Henri fell silent, wasn’t that the reason why Claude had left? He genuinely didn’t mind that the Alpha had left for a long time, what hurt was that he didn’t tell him.
He shooed off those pesky thoughts. He was currently running for his life, it wasn’t exactly a prime time for unboxing past trauma.
