Chapter 141: Chapter 141
Jacques glanced down at Audie and then looked to Valentin, an almost pleased expression on his face. He placed the tray on the table and then turned to Audie, "Fine, but you’re in my seat."
Valentin had to stifle a groan, this was what he had been trying to prevent before Audie distracted him with talks of secret passageways. Most times, he thought that Audie was the instigator when it came to the endless scuffle they were constantly engaged in but in moments just like this one, he could see that Jacques also shared some of the blame.
Audie’s expression darkened as he glared up at Jacques, "I didn’t see your name written on it..."
Valentin sighed imperceptibly, if their aimless and endless arguments weren’t so exasperating, it might actually be entertaining. He just rose to his feet, stepped out, and yanked Jacques down on his seat before walking around to join Nael.
"You can have my seat instead." He said calmly, ending their building explosion immediately.
Audie and Jacques were frozen for a few seconds before it hit that they were sitting pressed up against each other, they sprang apart with matching expressions of disdain, unable to keep on arguing.
"Audie found a secret passageway in the class building, we’ll be going after classes," Valentin said, wanting to close off every avenue for a possible argument.
"Aw, why did you tell him?" Audie whined, still glaring at Jacques.
"So we can go before heading to the Volleyball court," Valentin said casually, unbothered. If they had skirmishes with each other, that wasn’t his problem, he was still friends with them both.
"Want to come along?" He added to Nael, "It’ll make a good distraction."
"I thought we weren’t ditching classes." Audie frowned, quickly over his dismay about Jacques being invited as well, at least until the other spoke up.
"We’re ditching classes?" He mimicked Audie’s words, cocking a brow.
"No!" Valentin said in a slightly raised voice, exasperated.
"But you just said we were ditching classes," Nael chimed in, reaching forward to take his plate.
"Hey! Whose side are you on?!" He turned on the Alpha, feeling jumped.
Nael just glumly bit on his sandwich, "Errol’s side." He said without hesitation.
Valentin made a sound of frustration, "He’s not even- No, we’re not ditching classes." He enunciated firmly, looking straight at Audie.
"Why are you looking at me, I didn’t even say anything." He defended but said nothing more.
Valentin sighed again, relieved that he had brought an end to that line of conversatio-
"If we’re drunk does that give us a pass to ditch classes?" Nael muttered, sounding far more serious than Valentin would have liked.
"We’re drinking?" Audie piped up, his dark eyes lighting up.
"No, we’re not!" Valentin exclaimed in horror, turning to Jacques. "Help me out here, would you?"
"Uh... okay, It’s not exactly against the rules to drink or ditch classes, I should know, I read the brochure cover to cover. " Jacques said with a helpful expression that belied his words.
Valentin fell speechless at this, feeling like he was way in over his head. Just how did Errol manage to keep them all in line? Because he was doing a very terrible job at the moment.
He felt like he had to be the responsible one out of them so he couldn’t show even the slightest bit of hesitation or they would capitalise on that. Three pairs of eyes were fixed on him expectantly, waiting for him to speak.
Valentin drew in a deep breath, wishing for patience as tried to prepare an answer. "We’re not ditching classes to go drunkenly explore a secret passageway in the class building." He enunciated slowly so that they could understand the severity of their suggestions.
"Why?" Audie blurted out before he could even get all his words out, making Valentin falter.
"It’s not a crime." Nael tagged on, misery dripping from his voice as he polished off the rest of his sandwich.
Valentin couldn’t believe this, he had hoped that Nael’s presence would make the other two easier to handle but he was just as troublesome as Audie.
It would seem that being away from Errol seemed to switch off his braincells. He was sad and stupid, a terrible combination.
Valentin tried to scramble for a reason to dissuade them, he didn’t bother asking Jacques for help again because every time the other Alpha opened his mouth, the situation worsened.
"I-It’s frowned upon." He managed to say, cursing himself for faltering.
"What does it matter? The professors frown regardless." Nael said somberly, picking up another sandwich. freewёbnoνel.com
Valentin did a double take, "Are you drunk?" He had to ask.
"Yeah, on misery." Nael said with a straight face, chomping down on his sandwich.
Valentin was at a loss for words again.
"Come on, it’s the first day of school, it’s not like we’ll be missing out on anything important." Audie coerced, a master of the art.
"Plus I won’t be able to concentrate in class anyway." Nael sealed the deal.
"I can’t believe you two... wait, two?!" He exclaimed, staring at the empty space beside Audie. "Where’s Jacques?" He asked fearfully. freёwebnovel.com
"Off to get the wine." Audie grinned.
"You’ve already decided?!" He asked in disbelief, then why were they making it out like they needed his permission? "Why are you trying to convince me then?"
"Because we want you to come along." Audie leaned across the table with hopeful eyes.
"Absolutely not!" He squawked, looking around like he hoped that one of the trio of responsible students would show up.
He was certain that Errol, Louis and Henri would have been able to put an end to this from the very start.
"But we need someone to keep an eye on us." Jacques said smoothly, showing up with a suspicious-looking package. "Who knows what we’ll get up to by ourselves?"
Once again Valentin was pinned by three pairs of eyes, two mischievous eyes and one pair filled with teary misery.
He was trapped, Jacques was right, he couldn’t trust them to not do something stupid if he left them to their antics but giving in still felt wrong.
He felt like slamming his head down on the polished table top and it was with a lot of reluctance that he gave in, "Fine, but you’re all going to owe me for this." He jabbed out a finger, feeling like he had just jumped off the edge of a cliff.
