Chapter 107: Chapter 107

Louis sucked in a deep breath as he ended another conversation with what... his fifth? Sixth person of the night? It was easy to lose count when the conversations started getting repetitive.

To his surprise, all the people he spoke to were people that he knew. There was a fogginess in his head the longer this went on though, this wasn’t his usual deal.

"Hello," An Omega stepped in front of him, a demure smile on her face.

Louis blinked and smiled in return, nursing a glass of punch. He nodded a response to her greeting, waiting expectantly.

He took the chance to study her and from the dark red skirt of her dress, he could tell that she was also a Year One student as he. Her dark hair was cut short under her ears, and a hairpin with a little bow on it kept her hair out of her face.

"I’m Elea and I know it’s a bit improper for me to make the proposition but would you like to dance?"

Louis blinked again, finding himself genuinely considering her offer. ’What could it hurt?’ After all, he had been told to do some socializing.

"Sure," He accepted, smiling slowly. "I’m Louis by the way." He introduced, offering his arm.

Elea positively glowed, smiling so wide that the tips of her bunny teeth showed. She took his arm and practically skipped by his side to the dance floor.

Dio leveled his gaze on an Omega that was insistently tugging on his arm, giving her a smile that didn’t touch his mismatched eyes. That seemed to be enough for her because she squealed and hid her eyes behind a hand.

Dio looked back at the sight that had caught his attention, Louis dancing with an Omega. That wasn’t supposed to happen.

He had thought of trying a different approach to get Louis’ attention, sticking to his side didn’t work, and it looked like talking to other people just made it worse.

"Dio?"

"Dio, you’re not paying attention to us anymore..."

Dio had had enough of entertaining the girls who merely saw him as some sort of fantasy. He nodded politely to them and walked off, heading for Henri.

Henri certainly had no lack for Louis’ attention, maybe the Omega could give him some pointers. Dio had reached his limit seeing Louis dance with a girl.

Henri looked up in surprise when Dio got to him. "I wasn’t expecting you."

"Do you know where Lou is?"

Henri eyed him skeptically, "I feel like you know that better than I do."

Dio sighed and slumped on a nearby chair.

Henri snorted out a half laugh, "You don’t look so great."

"You know you could just talk to him." Henri tagged on when all Dio did was search out Louis in the crowd and sigh.

Dio’s expression turned dry, "Oh what a splendid idea, why didn’t I think of that?"

Henri grumbled under his breath, "Why don’t you do that then?"

Dio stared at Henri with his head placed on his arms on top of the table. "Because I feel like he gets even more distant every time I try."

He straightened up to check for Louis, it seemed to be an unconscious action, like a diver going up for air occasionally. "I’m also not very articulate."

Henri scoffed, "It doesn’t sound that way..." This conversation was the first of his kind that he was having with Dio. As they were the two most inclined to silence, when they were together, they spoke little or not at all. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

He also knew what Dio was trying to say but he had no help to offer, he didn’t feel like it was his place to play intermediary...

"I can’t find Louis." Dio suddenly said with panic, already halfway out of his seat.

Henri looked over to him, "What do you mean?"

"He’s not in the ballroom anymore." He quickly said, getting frantic.

Henri couldn’t help but be affected by his tone, he also joined the Alpha in searching in earnest for Louis. "This is a ballroom filled with about half a thousand students, perhaps you just lost sight of him."

"I didn’t, he was there one moment, then he wasn’t." Dio insisted, getting to his feet.

"He could be on a bathroom break?" Henri suggested, trying to ease Dio’s panic.

"Maybe," Dio agreed grudgingly, not looking like he believed Henri one bit.

"Or you could just go search for him?" Henri pointed out the obvious.

"Ah, right, thanks." He muttered awkwardly, striding off.

Henri just pushed his empty glass away from him, relieved to be all alone again. Clearly, neither of his friends had brain cells when it came to each other.

Henri would have preferred to be left out of it entirely but if Louis and Dio straightened out whatever issues they had going on, it meant that Louis would bother him less. Now that it was starting to look like Dio would be doing the same for different reasons, Henri just wanted to sit them both beside each other and bluntly tell them to their face what they should have told each other.

He pushed away from the table, intending to get himself something to eat and drink. The ball wasn’t as awful as he imagined, which was mostly because he was left all alone. freewebnøvel.coɱ

At the balls he previously attended, he was treated like the main attraction, everyone wanting to have a word with him or a dance or both... But here all he had to do was give a listening ear to two of his friends, it was an upgrade in his opinion.

Louis was just about to call it quits and return to Henri’s side, he wasn’t cut out for socializing after all.

He was interrupted by a green-faced Alpha who accidentally bumped into him. He recognized the slightly bowed Alpha right away, he had tutored him during the last test, Tristan from 1-C.

The fog immediately cleared out of Louis’ head when he saw an opportunity to help someone. "Hey, Tristan, are you alright?"

Tristan’s response was a quiet sound of pain, he winced as he looked up at Louis. "Not really, I was just on my way out for some air."

"Let me help you," Louis immediately offered, taking Tristan’s arm to keep him upright.

"Thanks, sorry to trouble you." Tristan muttered in a strained voice.

Louis’ smile was bright, "It’s no trouble at all."
