Chapter 2025: Fighting and Flirting
,There were plenty of other people in this area.
Mobs outside of upgrade mobs were naturally much smaller than the latter, but most of them were by no means actually ’small’. The mob in this sector was easily comparable to their first upgrade mob back then, but more powerful due to the level differences of the monsters.
More and more people appeared in the area, taking over different sectors of the battlement and the ’training’ area right outside of it.
Flying monsters could only fly a little over a hundred meters above ground. That was to say, they couldn’t fly above the scope of level 5 (and above) sentries.
However, they had evolved in a way that, after a few shots, they learned the scope of the sentries they were facing, thus managing to hover just beyond its scope to time when to swoop in.
It had nothing to do with intelligence, as most monsters had dredges for brains, but more like a honing signal developed inside their bodies. Further, they also had higher chances of avoiding sentry arrows in the first place, making them troublesome opponents.
Fortunately, this also meant that very few flying monsters would dare to go past high-level walls. Since flying monsters were generally around level 20 and above, they hadn’t really encountered them before they turned into a town, which was fortunate because that could’ve been a disaster.
"Tsk, it escaped again," one of the guards muttered with furrowed eyebrows when his spear missed to land another attack.
"One more minute and we’ll take over."
"Eh? Already!? That’s not fair, I already wounded it!"
Since level 20+ monsters were not that many in numbers, people who needed EXP could only take turns. Some teams adopted a rotation system of giving everyone who needed the kill a chance to do so.
Some, like this case, assigned the last kill to members in alteration, and if they failed to kill it within the stipulated amount of time, then another could take the chance.
This was the case for most soldiers with Garan back then.
Of course, the others still needed to group together to beat them. The average level among Alterran guards was still several levels below level 20, after all.
For example, Captains Amos and Galleon’s teams—all of whom were personally trained by them—took over a sector, and they worked together to efficiently take down the monsters, some of which had higher levels than the team captains.
Galleon had now joined the guard team after getting sober (and after receiving medical certificate from the hospital, of course). After contributing a lot and killing a lot of enemies in the Valov War, he was directly promoted to captain.
As someone who had had a high rank before retiring back in Terran, it could be said that his rocket-like rise was not a surprise.
His greatest contribution was defending one of the evacuation centers—one that protected his son. His small team managed to take down all the enemies with minimal losses, which was incredibly impressive.
"Now," Amos said as he controlled several vines he had previously set. Just as two bird-type monsters descended, the vines expanded to grab or swipe their leg or its wing, imbalancing them immediately.
They baited the monsters to go near them, especially since the monsters worked in pairs.
Galleon teleported as soon as one was within his scope. He appeared above the monster and gave it a heavy kick, with Amos using his wood ability to hold it down.
As for the other monsters, the other teammates went to keep them within the scope of the sentry. Even if it managed to escape their barrage, it would likely be hit by a sentry arrow.
Meanwhile, back in Luke and Leo’s area, the battle continued as new monsters entered their area. The twins and their teammates had entered the zone, gaining quite a decent momentum.
Luke even managed to recycle the same sharp rock to weaken several monsters over the past hour.
"Joe and Lee had always joked around fighting monsters like this," Luke mumbled out of nowhere, eyebrows furrowed. Joe was an earth user and Lee was a wind user, so their abilities could be trained with such enemies.
Too bad they had both perished during the recent war. The only bright side was that they died while knowing the families they had been protecting were alive and well.
But Luke was a bit bitter because Joe’s wife was already flirting. Using her beneficiary status, she received all of Joe’s liquid wealth and contribution points to fund her current lavish lifestyle.
Dead guards who died in duty received a certain amount of money as well, given to whoever they named as beneficiary, and it was designed to let the person live comfortably for at least a year—a few more years if they were frugal enough.
From what he knew, it hadn’t been a month yet, but that woman had already consumed everything.
It was honestly disgusting.
Worse, there were even rumors that he died because he was distracted with her, that when enemies arrived in their area, that woman screamed to death, causing the operation to rescue them to crumble. freewebnøvel.com
"A bad wife doesn’t just ruin a man’s day—she ruins his fate," Ansel said, patting Luke’s shoulder.
He had known Luke’s flirtatious behaviors that mirrored him a lot when he was younger.
"So start being more mindful about the peach blossoms you provoke, yeah?"
...
Speaking of peach blossoms that Luke provoked, one of them was named Kisha, who was a migrant from Guardian Village.
She was one of the talents sponsored and recruited by Brianna to join her design team. Kisha was now part of the interior design team that handled the design of a few mercenary branches.
She was friends with Viola, Terran Survivor #32, who had arrived there along with Wolfe (Terran Survivor #48). Right now, she was fighting alongside the battlement, using the sentries to weaken the monsters before they headed to attack it.
They waited for the level 15 monsters to get shot a few times before deciding to jump down.
"Can you use your ability now?" Kisha asked her friend, who nodded in agreement.
Viola’s special ability that she received as an early survivor was called [Enhanced Allies] which allowed allies’ senses and stats to temporarily increase.
Kisha felt her body becoming lighter, and she quickly raised her mace, jumping down to finish off the half-dead monsters.
SLAM!
BANG!
SMASH!
The hits were particularly harsh. Her mace was a Level D weapon she had commissioned from Master Birion, also known as Brenda’s Father.
It was designed to be quite sharp, and its weight was just enough to add to the strength of the hit while not affecting Kisha’s swinging strength.
Blood and innards splattered all over, splashing onto Kisha’s pants.
Viola looked at her friend’s brutality. "Luke must’ve really angered you..."
Kisha’s trigger seemed to be Luke’s name. "What about you? Have you made progress with his brother?"
Viola flushed, looking away.
Kisha scoffed. She only befriended Luke because she wanted to investigate the man who captured her friend’s heart.
Who’d have thought that big dog could really flirt and actually managed to charm her? If she hadn’t seen him flirting with others, she could’ve fallen for real!
Bleugh!
