Chapter 2024: Alterrans Growing
While some people were going on dates, most others spent the majority of their free time training.
The Valov war was still fresh in most people’s hearts, especially those from Terran, who still retained a lot of idealism in their hearts, unlike many aborigines who had seen worse tragedies.
Not just the guards, but the citizens were also in action. Many people had heard that two Ministers had gone out far away (while some were asleep!). Their departure naturally wasn’t publicized, but such a big thing couldn’t be kept secret forever.
Althea and Garan didn’t mind that their departure would spread out, either, as long as there was a time gap in between to avoid some potential trouble, like enemies following after them.
At the same time, some were worried (for them and/or for the departments they left behind), while many were also envious.
They loved Alterra, but they also wanted to see the world! ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Of course, if they found out the reason the couple went out, they would not be so jolly.
As for the departments Althea and Garan left behind, they were handled well, and the tasks were designated a month before the two left. Basically, everything had been streamlined, and the processes were so efficient that the absence of a few people wouldn’t cripple the rest.
Even the outsiders who were waiting to watch the show (and possibly take advantage) could only be disappointed that things were working as they had always been.
Anyway, as always, without wars, the hundreds of meters outside the outer walls always had people. This was especially true within the 300-meter space between the outer walls and the loose sentries.
The challenge was that they really had to watch their backs lest they get hit by sentry arrows instead. Fortunately, it was not too hard, especially since the sentries would never target them directly. The accidents would only happen when they blocked an already shot arrow midway.
At this time, Leon and Luke were training their abilities against monsters around their level in this area. (Minister) Ansel also tagged along for old time’s sake.
Apparently, the dude’s wife was too busy with their son to notice his absence, so he might as well level up and increase his presence.
Along with them were Amos, one of the first guards, and they were handling one of the bigger mobs that attacked the walls midday.
Their side was situated far from where the soldiers were fighting, and at the opposite sides of the territory too. However, interestingly, they got quite a variety of monsters to choose from.
They had a few flying beasts, but they also had quite a few running underground.
These monsters were relatively rare compared to the land-roaming alternatives. If one trained around the territory a lot, they might’ve encountered one or two, but it seemed like today’s mobs had a number of them.
In terms of physique and strength, they were not too different from the typical monster running above ground. It was just that they had advantages of using different playing fields.
The fights with these monsters definitely challenged the fighters. One time they would be fighting a land monster, then a moment after that, they’d have to jump before something from below bit them.
After jumping, they’d also have to watch their heads unless they wanted to be carried out by a flying monster.
In fact, there had been many cases of this (getting literally carried away), especially for the wind users who liked to show off and fly around.
Fortunately, the sentries also attacked monsters until a hundred or so meters up, and there were also reliable people who could react fast enough, so no one died from getting kidnapped by flying monsters just yet.
Since reaching level 2, such monsters had become more common to them, as if the town now had a passive of attracting weird stuff from a distance.
However, it had been over a month since then, and their monster encyclopedia had always been updating, so soon enough, they became used to fighting unconventional means. Thanks to this, while there might be a bit more ’unconventional’ monsters today, they were certainly not helpless.
Standing stably on the ground, Leo summoned a huge water ball, partially condensed from surrounding air, but most of it was coming from his space. He then pushed the water ball into one of the holes created by the underground crawling monster.
He manipulated it so it would stretch and head out, finding the damned monster.
By this time, he could sense whatever the ball of water he touched as well. This technique was called [Water’s Touch] and was limited to that ball of water, but he found it extremely useful.
When he detected the monster, he looked at his brother who shot up, his fiery spear skillfuly rotating as he jumped, using his weight and momentum to stab right where the monster was hiding.
ROAAAARR!
Without another second, he activated his skill. His weapon spread out fiery heat, creating an explosion on its tip while Leo kept it in place.
To kill the monster, which was a little above their level, naturally needed a bit more force. Hence, Luke had to stab it a few more times and fire it up a few more times. ƒrēewebnovel.com
A flying monster swooped in while Luke was busy stabbing. Leo was busy with his own monsters by this time. In response, Luke just summoned a sharp rock he had been hiding in his space, making it appear above its head. It was one of his favorite moves even when they were still fighting zombies.
Ansel was standing by the battlement this time. They were doing wheel battles and it so happened to be his rest time. He watched the twins, and when they showed off mastery of new skills, he couldn’t help but clap his hands.
"Not bad, not bad!" he said, grinning. He felt a bit nostalgic, remembering how they were when he first met them back then. "You sure have come a long way from being village refugees."
