Chapter 112: Chapter 99: Sword, Magic Staff, and Gloves

"Skill [Fireball Technique] Level 1 (10/10) Leveled Up!"

"Current Skill: [Fireball Technique] Level 2 (0/20)"

Although he really wanted to see what a Level 2 Fireball Technique was like, unfortunately, Lin Mo’s Magic Power was already depleted.

He was only able to cast the Fireball Technique more than ten times and level it up because he’d had time to rest and recover.

If he had cast them consecutively, with his current Magic Power, he would have been lucky to release four or five...

’One step at a time.’

He was just starting on his journey in Magic, after all. Things should get a little better once he trained Fireball Technique to Level 3 and added another point to his Magic Attribute.

’Oh, right, and there’s this...’

Lin Mo took a tightly sealed iron box from his bag. The box was specially padded with plenty of cotton, and inside lay a bottle of Potion and a red Magic Stone.

Although Lady Julian had said the bottle was sturdy and not easily damaged, Lin Mo had still added the padding for his own peace of mind.

After all, this thing was far too precious. Julian had offered a purchase price of a full 800 Gold Coins for it!

’If I remember correctly, it’s called Basic Flame Reagent, right?’

But since he wasn’t sure, Lin Mo didn’t drink it rashly. He planned to wait until the noon break and ask Flora first.

The carriage continued on. Since his Magic Power was depleted and needed time to recover, the rest of the journey was no longer as interesting for Lin Mo.

It had become difficult to level up either [Invisibility] or [Resilience] against these Ordinary Goblins. However, he could still improve [Cross Slash] and [Shield Strike], so he focused on grinding the Skill Level for those two skills.

By noon, Lin Mo had killed another dozen or so Goblins, and his [Cross Slash] Skill Level had reached 153/180.

"Miss Flora, may I bother you for a moment?"

During the noon break, he went to Flora’s carriage and knocked on the doorframe.

Flora lifted the carriage curtain. "What is it?"

For some reason, Lin Mo felt that her gaze toward him seemed to hold a hint of... wariness?

"It’s about this."

He held the box out to her. "I heard from Granny Julian, the Alchemist in town, that this is a Flame Reagent. It’s supposed to increase one’s Affinity for the Fire Element and improve the resonance efficiency with it."

Flora looked at the Potion in her hand with some surprise and nodded. "That’s right. And the quality of this Basic Flame Reagent is quite good... Where did you get this?"

"I stumbled into a Secret Realm by chance a while back..."

Lin Mo didn’t explain in detail. "So, can I drink this right now?"

"No problem."

Flora handed the Potion back to him. "The effect of this Potion is about 30% stronger than the most ordinary ones. After drinking it, it should increase your Fire Element Affinity by 13%. It will be helpful for practicing Fire Element Magic and also increase the Casting Speed and power of your Fire Element Skills."

As a tutor at the Royal Capital Mage Academy, Flora’s judgment was indeed precise. The 30% assessment was exactly the same as Granny Julian’s.

Lin Mo hesitated no longer and drank the reagent.

Instantly, a fiery sensation spread through his body, making him feel as if his entire being was on fire.

It might sound terrifying, but it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. In fact, it was rather pleasant.

Half a minute later, the sensation faded, and Lin Mo could clearly feel that his body had undergone a slight change.

"As for this Magic Stone—"

Flora then picked up the Magic Stone from the box. "This is also quite good. Later, when you buy a Magic Wand, you can inlay this on it..."

She paused mid-sentence. "Speaking of which, will you be using a Sword or a Magic Wand in the future?"

The question actually stumped Lin Mo.

"Both?"

Flora pondered for a moment, then suddenly asked, "That Half-Beastman girl in your party, does she have Ice Wolf Race blood in her?"

Lin Mo nodded, not understanding why she had suddenly brought it up.

"You’ve probably seen it before. Although she uses a Sword in battle, her attacks carry the power of an Element... That’s her Racial Talent. Of course, it can’t be imitated, but perhaps it can serve as a reference."

Lin Mo’s eyes suddenly lit up. "You mean..."

"The power of Magic and the skills of a Warrior are not necessarily incompatible."

Many Great Mages have actually studied this concept in the past. However, very few people can truly master multiple roles, so progress on this front has been extremely difficult, and such research often ends up going nowhere.

In the limited information she had, Flora had once seen an interesting concept—

"If you forge a Sword from the materials used to make a Magic Wand, then that Sword could function as both a Sword and a Magic Wand. It could be used for slashing and also for enhancing Magic Power. Fighting with such a weapon would make one’s combat style extremely versatile and difficult to predict."

"However, this is just a concept, after all. Common Magic Wand materials are either not very sturdy or they lack the resilience needed for a melee weapon. Furthermore, there’s no reference material for the forging process, so making it a reality would likely not be so easy..."

"For now, you could try buying a smaller Magic Wand to keep on you as a backup, or you could buy a pair of Secret Silver Gloves and inlay this Magic Stone onto them."

A Mage’s weapons aren’t limited to just a Magic Staff. Some people like to fashion magically-attuned materials into the form of gloves or even Arm Armor, but overall, a Magic Staff is still more effective.

But for Lin Mo, a pair of Magic Gloves was clearly more suitable.
