Chapter 110: Chapter 98: Am I Not a Genius?
Lin Mo stood up, looked at the thick tree trunk before him, and took a deep breath.
Two seconds to successfully channel two basic circuits. Another two seconds to combine them. The entire process took a total of four seconds. A fireball the size of a ping-pong ball shot from his hand and slammed into the large tree.
The Fireball’s power was minimal. With a soft *POOF*, it left a small, scorched mark on the trunk before vanishing.
But Lin Mo was so excited he almost cried out.
’I finally did it!’
"Learned Skill [Fireball Technique]! Magic Power +1!"
That message floated before Lin Mo’s eyes.
He opened his panel to carefully examine the new skill he had just learned.
[Fireball Technique] Level 1 (0/10): Resonate with the Fire Element and condense Magic Power to unleash a Fireball.
Note: The gates of Magic have opened for you.
For a moment, Lin Mo felt like tears were about to well up in his eyes.
’It wasn’t easy... I’ve been in this world for twenty-some days, and I’ve finally learned my first spell. I’m officially on the path of a Mage!’
Once the elation faded, a wave of dizziness washed over him. Lin Mo shook his head, a throbbing sensation pulsing in his temples.
Using Magic consumed Magic Power, but it also placed a strain on his Spirit. The process of channeling circuits required incredible precision, making it far more difficult than Physical Professions. Combining the circuits was especially mentally taxing.
It was also time for the changing of the guard. Lin Mo greeted a now-awake Carson, then crawled into his sleeping bag and fell sound asleep.
Perhaps because he was so mentally exhausted, he slept more deeply than usual, yet he didn’t sleep well at all.
When he opened his eyes, the sky was already bright. It was bustling with voices outside; everyone had already started eating breakfast and chatting. Lin Mo yawned and quickly got out of bed.
He stacked the chopped wood. This time, he didn’t need a flint. With a mere thought, Lin Mo sent a Fireball at the pile, and the kindling instantly ignited.
’So convenient.’
Lin Mo chuckled as he took out some bread, cheese, and meat slices to toast over the fire.
Meanwhile, Flora also emerged from her tent, rubbing her sleepy eyes, her hair a total mess.
’Couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t sleep at all...’
She had thought she could just ignore it and the feeling would fade. Yet, even when she closed her eyes, the image of Lin Mo casting Magic with that dazed look on his face kept replaying in her mind.
’He actually learned the basic circuits just from my guidance... and unlike me, he hadn’t even read up on the relevant theories beforehand.’
’And that punk even managed to learn how to combine circuits without any instructor’s demonstration. How in the world did he do that?’
Flora couldn’t help but recall the question she had asked him after finishing the guidance, when she’d asked how much he remembered.
At the time, she had asked with a hint of teasing, and Lin Mo’s vague answer had been just what she’d expected. But now, looking back, something felt... off.
’What did he really mean by "hard to say"? Just how much did he remember?’
’It couldn’t be that he just coincidentally happened to learn circuits #13 and #27, right?’
Though she was curious, Flora ultimately decided against asking him again—for the sake of her own blood pressure.
After breakfast, they set out once more. The journey from Roland Town to Silver Stream City was not a short one; it would take at least another day and a half.
Moreover, the path ahead wasn’t a proper road. They would have to cut through a forest, where the chances of encountering Demons were much higher.
"Captain."
Before they set off, Lin Mo found Alton. "If we encounter any Demons on the road today, can you leave them all to me?"
"I suppose you can..."
Alton asked, a little puzzled, "but won’t it be too much for you to handle them alone?"
"Not at all, not at all."
Lin Mo waved his hands dismissively, then boarded the lead carriage of the convoy.
Alton watched his retreating figure and scratched his head. He’d actually noticed it before—this new member of their team seemed a little too enthusiastic about hunting Demons...
’Does he despise evil with a passion, or does he simply love to fight?’
’Oh well, it’s not a bad thing either way.’
He was confident in Lin Mo’s abilities. With him handling the Demons, Alton could relax a bit on the journey and spend more time with his family. It would also keep that scoundrel Solan from finding an opening to coax his precious daughter.
The convoy set off. Ali and Lena were also in Lin Mo’s carriage; they had followed him on board right after he got in.
Since it would be awkward for the others to be around the two Half-Beastman girls, everyone was happy with this arrangement.
Lena sat on a cushion, swinging her little legs and curiously observing Lin Mo and Ali.
She felt that Ali had been acting a bit strange the past two days... She was mentioning Lin Mo’s name even more often than Lena herself did.
Ali, meanwhile, was intently picking at her fingers, her gaze fixed on the scenery flashing past the window.
The silence stretched on for a long time before she finally broke it. "Lin Mo, was there a reason you went to see that Miss Mage yesterday?"
She clearly remembered how, when they were in trouble yesterday, the Miss Mage who had suddenly appeared had crushed their enemies with overwhelming force. That kind of power made her envious, and she was filled with respect for Flora.
Half-Beastmen had always revered and respected the strong; it was an instinct that came from the Beastman blood flowing in their veins.
But that feeling had soured the moment she saw Lin Mo go to talk with Flora for so long last night, especially after she witnessed what looked like an intimate gesture (the head-patting during the guidance).
