Chapter 50: Points

"Fine, whatever."

"Since you have monster cores but no Prime, I’m heading to the Eternal Night Palace anyway. We can talk on the way, and once we get there, you can exchange however many monster cores you want for Prime." The fox man placed his hands behind his back and made the offer to Rios.

"What is the Eternal Night Palace?" Rios frowned, feeling somewhat frustrated by how little he knew.

"That would be your third question." The fox smiled slyly as he looked at Rios’s frustrated expression.

"Damn you. Let’s just go. I’ll find out for myself once we get there." Rios waved his hand in annoyance.

"Alright, let’s go."

The fox man took the lead, and Rios followed behind him.

"Let’s start with points. As I told you before regarding the value of monster cores by level, before Prime was invented tens of millions of years ago, monster cores were the most widely used currency. However, they were never the primary currency." As they walked, the fox raised a finger and continued,

"That was because the system had several major flaws. There was the problem of pricing monster cores against other goods, the problem of counterfeit cores, and the biggest problem of all—the chaotic energy contained inside every core. But after Prime was created, all of those problems were completely solved, and monster cores were priced using points."

Rios listened to the fox while observing the scenery around him, marveling at the enormous number of palaces.

What truly amazed him wasn’t the number of palaces...

It was the number of visitors.

Even the least crowded palaces had hundreds of people entering and leaving every minute.

As for the busiest palace Rios had seen so far, thousands entered it every minute, and thousands came out every minute as well.

Tsk, what an ignorant fool, the fox mocked inwardly when he noticed Rios staring at the palaces and visitors. Outwardly, however, he simply smiled and waved a hand in front of Rios to regain his attention.

"Go on. I’m listening." Rios looked at the fox and pushed his hand aside.

"Alright, let’s move on to the important part." The fox put his hands behind his back again as if nothing had happened and continued,

"Points represent the amount of energy that can be extracted from a monster core. For example, a Level 1 core usually contains anywhere between one and ten points worth of energy. But as you know, humanoid races like us can only refine about ten percent of a core’s energy. Even with the finest refinement techniques, we can only reach fifteen percent. And even then, monster cores still leave chaotic energy behind in our bodies."

The fox shook his head regretfully when mentioning chaotic energy, but soon smiled again.

"And that’s where Prime comes in—the magical solution that solved all those problems."

His eyes lit up as he played with a white coin before tossing it to Rios.

Rios caught the coin and examined it.

The coin was completely white and roughly the size of two finger joints.

On one side was a word written in a strange language, but thanks to the System’s ability to understand multiple languages, Rios immediately recognized it.

Prime.

He flipped the coin over and found the image of three gears working together in perfect harmony.

Above them were two clearly written words.

Immortal Court.

Rios handed the Prime coin back to the fox and nodded.

"Continue."

The fox caught the Prime coin, waved his hand, and it disappeared. He then placed his hands behind his back again and continued walking at a leisurely pace.

"After Prime appeared, the entire cosmic order was turned upside down. Civilizations that had relied on bartering goods and monster cores for trade finally gained a universal currency they could all use for buying and selling. And all of that was thanks to Prime’s many advantages."

"Its first advantage was that it established a true, unified price for monster cores. Before that, every civilization valued them differently, since Prime itself is created from the energy contained within monster cores."

"The second advantage—and my personal favorite—is that it’s completely pure and can be absorbed entirely without leaving the slightest trace inside the body." The fox turned toward Rios, closed one eye, and added,

"And let’s not forget... it can’t be counterfeited either."

The fox faced forward once more and continued,

"On top of that, every ordinary Prime coin is worth one thousand points."

Upon hearing that, Rios turned toward him and frowned.

"Are you saying there’s more than one type of Prime?"

"Hehehe."

The fox laughed mischievously after hearing the question, as though he had known Rios would fall into this trap.

"Of course there is more than one type. But if you want to know about them, I’ll count that as your third question."

"Damn you. Forget it." Rios waved his hand angrily before asking something else.

"Forget about that and tell me... how much does it cost to enter the Eternal Night Heaven?"

"..."

"What? Is there something on my face?" Rios tilted his head and raised an eyebrow at the fox’s dumbfounded stare.

"I honestly don’t know whether you’re truly an idiot from some isolated backwater or just a lunatic amusing yourself by wasting other people’s time. Even the smallest children know the answers to the questions you’re asking." The fox shrugged mockingly. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

"Does it matter which one it is? Are you working for money, or are you investigating people?" Rios looked at him indifferently, paying no attention to the fox’s sarcasm.

"Fair enough." The fox shrugged again before turning around and continuing to walk.

"To enter the Eternal Night Heaven, you need an entry ticket. One ticket costs one hundred points and lasts for one hour."

"Of course, you can recharge it as much as you like, but the minimum recharge is one hundred points."

After hearing the fox’s answer, a faint smile appeared on Rios’s face as his eyes calmly wandered around, taking in this new world and the countless races around him, completely ignoring the fox beside him.

It seems the System didn’t deceive me about the entry tickets after all...

And this points system seems to be almost identical to the System’s own points system.
