Chapter 477: Chapter 470: Then I’ll Say Nice Things to You Every Day
Sienna Hale remained completely unmoved, saying coolly, "Autumn, listen to me."
Her tone was quiet, but it left no room for argument.
Although Autumn Shelby was resentful, she didn’t dare press the issue. She could only bite her lip and nod lightly.
Right now, Sienna Hale was the only one in the Quinn family who treated her relatively well. Naturally, Autumn had to defer to her wishes in all matters; she couldn’t afford to lose her favor.
...
In the hospital room, Theodore Quinn walked over to Clara Grant and stopped.
Clara Grant glanced at him and quickly called out, "Uncle."
Theodore Quinn heard the woman who was supposed to be his daughter-in-law repeatedly calling him "Uncle." He parted his lips as if to speak, but swallowed the words before they could escape.
’Forget it. If I suddenly ask her to change what she calls me, she might not be comfortable with it. Besides, this isn’t the right time or place.’
So, in the end, he simply said, "Clara, please take good care of Seth. We’ll come see him another day."
Clara felt a little flustered by his words and quickly replied, "Uncle, it’s no trouble at all. I should be the one taking care of Seth. You’re being too kind."
Theodore Quinn said nothing more. He just nodded and turned to leave.
Clara quickly called after him, "Take care, Uncle."
Miles Quinn also stopped in front of her. He smiled and said, "Sister-in-law, I’m going to take Mom and Dad home. I’ll leave my brother in your hands."
Clara smiled back. "Don’t worry."
Miles Quinn nodded and followed Theodore Quinn out of the room.
The hospital room finally grew quiet again. Clara turned to look at Seth and smiled, but it was a rather bitter smile.
Seth, of course, noticed. He frowned and said, "Come here."
Seeing his frown, Clara hurried over and leaned down to ask, "What’s wrong? Does your wound hurt?"
Seth shook his head. "Sit down with me."
Clara sighed in relief that his wound wasn’t hurting and sat down.
Seth twitched his fingers. Clara understood what he wanted and placed her hand in his palm.
Seth gently squeezed her hand, his gaze deep and intent on her. There was a hint of apology in his eyes. "Clara, about what my mom said... if it made you uncomfortable, I apologize on her behalf."
Clara lowered her head and smiled. "It’s okay. I don’t blame her. I know she’s just looking out for you. It’s only natural for a mother to dote on her son. I completely understand."
Seth lowered his gaze to her slender, pale hand, gently caressing it with his thumb. He then looked up at her. "Clara, thank you."
Clara looked at him. "What for?"
"Of course I have to thank you. You’re so understanding, sensible, kind, beautiful, and magnanimous!" There was a smile in Seth’s eyes, but his tone was utterly sincere.
Clara chuckled, then pretended to ponder for a moment before looking at him. "Hmm... seeing as you’re so good at sweet-talking me, I’ve decided to forgive you another thirty percent for that lie you told me."
Seth smiled too. "So it’s that easy to earn your forgiveness? All I have to do is say sweet things? In that case, I’ll say them to you every day, and maybe you’ll forgive me completely a little sooner."
Clara’s words reminded Seth of the text message she had received. He paused before asking, "Clara, who sent you that text the other day? The one that told you everything."
"It was from an unfamiliar number. I have no idea who it was. When I tried to call back, it said the phone was switched off." As she spoke, Clara took out her phone, found the message with the photo, and handed it to him. "Here. It wasn’t just text, either. There was a picture for proof."
Seth took the phone, and his brow furrowed the moment he saw his family’s portrait.
’There was only one copy of that photo, and his mother kept it in an album. Because they were still keeping the secret from Clara, he was afraid of the news getting out if someone saw it. He had repeatedly stressed that the photo was not to be shown to any outsiders.’
’So, who could have sent this photo to Clara?’
Thinking of his mother’s behavior ever since she learned the truth about Clara’s background, Seth’s heart clenched, and his frown deepened.
