Chapter 476: Chapter 469: A Textbook Case of Forgetting Mom After Getting a Wife
Autumn Shelby had obviously heard the commotion inside and understood that Clara Grant was trying to avoid Sienna Hale. ’Hmph. She wants to slip away? I won’t let her get what she wants.’
So, she shifted her feet, preparing to block Clara’s path.
Clara Grant, however, only glanced at her for a second before turning around and pushing the door right back open, heading inside.
’Autumn Shelby isn’t going to let her get away, anyway. Rather than being cornered out here and making things awkward when Sienna Hale and the others came out, it was better to just go inside and face it.’
’No matter how angry she gets, the worst she can do is scold me a little. A mother-in-law lecturing her daughter-in-law is only natural. I can handle that.’
Autumn Shelby was all set to block her, but when she saw Clara push the door open and go right back inside, she froze for a moment. A soft, cold sneer quickly crossed her lips, and she followed her in.
Sienna Hale was on her way out when she looked up and saw Clara Grant coming in. She paused mid-stride and shot her an ill-tempered glare.
When Clara saw her glaring, she quickly lowered her gaze and murmured, "Mrs. Hale."
Clara braced herself for a few harsh words, but to her surprise, Sienna merely let out a cold snort and walked straight past her without saying a thing.
The tension in Clara Grant’s chest immediately eased, and she couldn’t help but let out a breath.
Autumn Shelby walked in with a smug look on her face, ready to enjoy the show of Sienna Hale berating Clara Grant. When she saw Sienna let Clara off without saying a word, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment.
A moment later, however, her expression returned to normal. She hurried forward to meet Sienna Hale, took her by the arm, and said softly, "Mrs. Hale, leaving so soon? Doesn’t Seth need someone to stay with him?"
When Sienna Hale glanced her way, Autumn quickly covered the side of her face that Clara Grant had slapped, trying to draw her attention to it.
But Sienna Hale was too preoccupied with her own anger to notice much. She merely glanced at Autumn before looking away and saying coldly, "He has someone to stay with him. Why would he need me? Hmph. Typical—a son forgets his mother the moment he gets a wife!"
Seeing that Sienna hadn’t noticed anything amiss, Autumn’s expression stiffened, and she had no choice but to drop her hand from her face.
She gave a dry laugh and said placatingly, "Mrs. Hale, please don’t overthink it. Seth’s not that kind of person."
As they spoke, the two of them walked out of the hospital room door.
Autumn Shelby suddenly stopped in her tracks. She looked at Sienna Hale and said, "Well then, Mrs. Hale, you and Mr. Hale should go on home. I’d still like to..."
As she spoke, she turned her head to glance back into the hospital room.
’I only just got here, and I haven’t had a chance to say more than a few words to Seth. I’m not ready to leave so quickly and hand all this time alone over to him and Clara Grant.’
Though she didn’t finish her sentence, Sienna Hale knew exactly what she was thinking. She, too, glanced toward the hospital room before turning back. After a moment of contemplation, she patted Autumn’s hand and said, "Autumn, you come back with us, too. Let’s let Seth rest and recover in peace."
She might be a little angry with Seth, but he was her son, after all. It was impossible for her not to consider what was best for him.
She didn’t like Clara Grant, but Seth did. If Clara was there, Seth would be happy, and his happiness would help him recover more quickly.
If Autumn stayed, she might just annoy Seth. If he was agitated, it would affect his rest, and by extension, his recovery.
Therefore, after weighing the pros and cons, she couldn’t let Autumn stay here.
Autumn Shelby had been certain that Sienna would let her stay to act as a counterweight to Clara Grant. She never expected to be refused. A wave of displeasure washed over her, and she called out reluctantly, "Mrs. Hale..."
