Chapter 654: Purchasing Goods in Hai City
During the New Year, Xu Mumu brought the whole family to the Xu Family, and both Professor Song and Professor Jian joined in. Celebrating the New Year together is always lively.
The little Doudou even brought over the little fox, totally smitten with it.
"Doudou, I want to hold it too," Fengfeng said, eyeing the little fox with envy as Doudou held it. As soon as he reached out, the little fox bared its teeth at him. If it weren’t for Doudou holding it, the little fox might have tried to scratch him a few times.
"Little Huang is scared. It’s not very familiar with you, little uncle, so it doesn’t want you to hold it. If you visit my house every day, little Huang won’t be afraid of you, and then it’ll let you hold it," the little fellow said earnestly.
"Alright, I’ll visit your house every day. I want to hold the little fox too," Little Xu Mingfeng was almost swearing an oath.
Meanwhile, inside the house, Xu Mumu sat by Xu Minglei’s bed. Xu Minglei was already packing his things. He had bought a train ticket for tomorrow, as school was about to start, and he was planning to leave two days early.
"Have you already packed everything?" Xu Mumu watched her little brother; Xu Minglei’s clothes were almost all packed, and he was tidying up his books at the moment.
"Yeah, almost done," Xu Minglei nodded earnestly. He didn’t want to leave his family, especially his sister.
"When you’re at school, focus on your studies. I’ll take care of things at home, don’t worry, nothing will go wrong," Xu Mumu said, ruffling her brother’s hair, which was slightly prickly.
Watching her brother grow tall and strong, Xu Mumu felt very satisfied.
"I will," Xu Minglei nodded seriously.
"If you start dating, make sure to tell us. Our Minglei is already an adult," Xu Mumu said with a smile.
"Sis, it’s still early for that. I’m not in a hurry to find someone," Xu Minglei’s face turned red.
"Alright, as long as you’re mindful of it, but if you meet a girl you like, make sure to hold onto her," Xu Mumu nodded with a smile.
The food prepared for the New Year at the Xu Family’s house was lavish. When they returned, Qian Ying had already prepared two wild boars, smoked some of it, and made a variety of sausages, both spicy and sweet. Most of the meat from the two pigs was taken back by Li Caixia, but the others got quite a bit too.
Originally, Li Caixia wanted to send more over to Xu Mumu, but Xu Mumu did not want any.
Before the New Year, Madam Chun had already prepared a lot of New Year’s provisions, and there was already more meat at home than they could eat. So she only took two smoked pig trotters back.
Because of this, Li Caixia complained for quite a while, thinking they were good things that her daughter didn’t want.
The table was filled with meat at lunchtime, which Xu Mumu had gotten used to. She felt like she had probably gained a few pounds over the New Year. Even though her superpower allowed her to have a slightly faster metabolism, she still gained weight.
Xu Mumu looked at her mother and, sure enough, she had gained weight too.
Previously, she wasn’t this heavy; she had lost quite a bit of weight. Although the family hadn’t lacked money over the years, she had learned some nutrition knowledge, so they were eating healthier, and she’d slimmed down. But over the New Year, she’d practically gained a whole circle.
"Mom, how much have you been eating? You’ve gained quite a bit," Xu Mumu said with a helpless smile.
"A bit too much, I suppose. Don’t worry, I’ll lose it. Back here, I can’t eat like I did back at home," Li Caixia said with a laugh.
"Alright, you shouldn’t continue gaining weight, it’s not good for your health."
"Do you really need to say that? Don’t worry, once the store opens, we’ll be busy enough to lose it," Li Caixia said, looking affectionately at her daughter.
"By the way, your dad is planning to go to Hai City to stock up on goods. Is there anything you want? I’ll have him bring it back for you," Li Caixia said, pulling Xu Mumu into a conversation about the store.
"I don’t really have anything in mind. How did Dad come up with the idea to go to Hai City for goods?" Xu Mumu asked curiously.
"I heard things are a bit cheaper there, so he’s planning to go take a look," Li Caixia said calmly.
"Who told you that? Is it reliable?" Xu Mumu asked.
"A friend of your dad’s, he runs a small supermarket. Your dad heard it from him last time they drank together, so he’s planning to check it out. If the goods are cheaper, we’ll get them from Hai City in the future to make a little more profit," Li Caixia said, enthusiastically counting with her fingers.
"What about the shipping costs? Shengjiang is quite far from Hai City, the shipping isn’t cheap. Is it worth the hassle?" Xu Mumu was a bit puzzled.
"Don’t worry, your dad and I have it figured out. He’s just going to scout it out in Hai City; if everything aligns, we’ll stock up, otherwise, we’ll continue getting goods from where we used to," Li Caixia said confidently.
"Alright then," Xu Mumu nodded, seeing that they weren’t completely clueless, she let them go ahead with it. Even if they lost some money, it wouldn’t be much, and the family could withstand such a loss.
However, she wondered about her dad’s friend and how reliable he was.
Xu Mumu kept this matter in mind, but she intended to wait until her dad had been to Hai City before asking him about it.
In the afternoon, Xu Mumu took Doudou and Li Caixia to the photo studio. This studio belonged to the Yin Family, and Xu Mumu had previously brought some film to be developed, which was ready for pickup.
"Wow, these photos turned out beautiful! I’m going to keep this one of Doudou and put it in my room so I can look at it whenever I want," Li Caixia said happily, choosing the best photo of Doudou to keep.
Xu Mumu glanced at the photo silently, agreeing that it was indeed the best one. Luckily, she’d had multiple copies made and planned to keep one for herself.
After picking up the photos, Xu Mumu had some sent over to Xu Jiaojiao, keeping the rest for herself to enjoy with Li Caixia at home.
"Sister, there’s none of me," Fengfeng said unhappily.
"You weren’t with us that day; if you were, we definitely would have taken one of you," Xu Mumu said with a smile, pinching her little brother’s chubby cheek. The little guy was rounder but even more adorable.
Xu Mumu thought that their family genes were quite good. Even when her mother gained weight, she wasn’t unattractive, and among the siblings, none of them were ugly.
"If I’d known, I would have come back with you, Sister," Little Fengfeng pouted, his lips protruding enough to hang a kettle on.
"If you want, I can take a photo of you right now. Just you, okay?" Xu Mumu said gently.
