Chapter 632: Funeral

Seeing Yin Yang go to rest, Xu Mumu took over the work in Yin Yang’s hands. The tasks weren’t difficult, just rather tedious.

The little guy regarded Xu Mumu’s words as if they were an imperial edict. While Yin Yang went to sleep, the little one watched from the side.

"Dad, you need to close your eyes to fall asleep," the little guy said seriously.

Yin Yang looked at his own son, feeling a mix of amusement and exasperation.

"Do you want to go play in the backyard? I can have someone go with you," Yin Yang suggested helplessly.

"No, I want to watch Dad." The little guy was quite insistent.

Yin Yang: "..." This little guy had become so persistent.

Yin Yang stopped speaking further and obediently went to sleep; he was indeed tired.

As soon as Yin Yang closed his eyes, the little guy showed a satisfied expression.

On Xu Mumu’s side, Mr. Cao had passed away, and there were still many preparations needed. The funeral, according to Yin Yang’s wishes, wasn’t extravagant, but it wasn’t just a simple burial either.

Things were organized step by step, and the Yin Family’s people were very efficient.

When Yin Yang woke up, Doudou was reading a comic book nearby. It was almost noon, and he hadn’t expected to sleep so long.

He took Doudou to find his little wife. Seeing how well she had organized everything, Xu Mumu was a bit tired, and Yin Yang felt sympathy for her.

"Wife, you must be tired," Yin Yang said with concern.

"Mom, Mom," the little guy rushed up to Xu Mumu, and she picked him up with a smile.

"Not too tired," Xu Mumu said with a smile, shaking her head. She was still somewhat inexperienced with these tasks, which made her a bit flustered, but once she got the hang of it, it got much better.

The family went for lunch, and Yin Yang took the two of them to the backyard to play.

The little guy loved the backyard a lot; it was huge, filled with a variety of beautiful flowers and plants. Yin Yang had also placed many toys there.

The little guy’s favorite was the koi pond.

The koi looked much slimmer than when Xu Mumu had first come years ago. They seemed more balanced now.

The little guy grabbed a handful of fish food and ran to the pond, with Yin Yang watching him nearby, concerned.

There were still many matters in the Yin Family that needed handling, so Yin Yang didn’t stay with his wife and child for long before he went off to manage things.

Once the little guy was tired from playing, Xu Mumu took him to rest.

The date for the burial had been chosen carefully by someone, and everything was proceeding smoothly.

Because the burial was near, the funeral was somewhat rushed. Soon it was time for the funeral, and Yin Yang sent out some invitations.

On the day of the funeral, many people came to the Yin Family. Xu Mumu, with Doudou, greeted the guests. Although she didn’t know them, it didn’t hinder their enthusiasm.

The Yin Family held a special status in Lan City, and many people were eager to curry favor with Yin Yang.

Xu Mumu also saw Yun Luo there, and she was a little surprised to see her. Yun Luo’s pale face caught Xu Mumu’s attention for a moment before she turned away to greet other guests.

Seeing Xu Mumu with the child, being surrounded by others, made Yun Luo’s eyes red with jealousy. If it weren’t for Xu Mumu, she would have been standing beside Yin Yang. Xu Mumu had stolen everything from her.

Xu Mumu felt Yun Luo’s cold gaze and promptly led Duodou out of her line of sight.

Even the little guy was sensitive enough to notice Yun Luo’s reaction and would have asked about it if Xu Mumu hadn’t stopped him.

"Mom, I don’t like that auntie," the little guy whispered.

"Mom doesn’t like her either, but she’s a guest today. Let’s pretend we didn’t see her," Xu Mumu said gently.

"Okay," the little guy replied obediently.

Looking at her son, Xu Mumu was in a good mood. She helped settle the guests, and the funeral began.

Mr. Cao didn’t have any descendants, so Yin Yang took on this responsibility willingly.

The funeral went very smoothly. Xu Mumu, with Doudou, followed behind Yin Yang, watching Mr. Cao being laid to rest.

A light rain began to fall from the sky, and someone came over to hold an umbrella for them. Xu Mumu picked up the little guy to keep him from getting wet.

When they returned to the Yin Family, it was already evening, and dinner had been prepared long in advance.

The Yin Family now had a newly appointed butler, seemingly in his fifties, with a rather honest look, who did his job reliably.

It had been a busy day, and during dinner, the little guy started to nod off.

After dinner, Xu Mumu bathed the little guy, and he quickly fell asleep.

"Even Doudou is exhausted. Wife, let’s go take a bath," Yin Yang said with a light laugh.

"Hmm, feeling better?" Seeing Yin Yang in a better mood, Xu Mumu also brightened up.

"Much better. I still have you both," Yin Yang said earnestly. People cannot be brought back to life, and Mr. Cao was over eighty years old. His passing was considered a happy funeral.

"Yes, you still have us," Xu Mumu replied with a smile, nodding.

The next day, there was still a lot to be done. The people who came for the funeral brought many gifts, and they were quite expensive.

These gifts broadened Xu Mumu’s horizon—jade, ancient paintings, and even two ginseng roots hundreds of years old; there was an abundance of things and variety.

"These people are so generous," Xu Mumu marveled at the gifts. Any one of them could probably be sold for a fortune.

"They just want me to do them a favor or make things easier for them," Yin Yang replied calmly. "Wife, feel free to keep them. They’re all recorded in the ledger, and if those families have needs in the future, we can reciprocate."

"Alright," Xu Mumu agreed, storing the items in the treasure vault.

Indeed, the Yin Family had a special underground storage room for treasures. Yin Yang had taken Xu Mumu there twice. The place was very hidden; during the house raids, no one discovered it. It housed an incredible amount of items, including a wall full of gold bars.

Every time she came here, Xu Mumu was filled with awe. The Yin Family was far wealthier than she ever imagined, to the extent that with the family’s external assets, they could compete for the title of the richest family.

"Such wealth," Xu Mumu remarked in awe.

"Take anything you like; these were my grandfather’s old collections," Yin Yang said with a smile. This wasn’t much; many items had been converted to cash, and what was left was a relatively precious portion.

"If I take them out, they’d surely be stolen. Better to keep them here," Xu Mumu shook her head.
