Chapter 27: Consume Arnament

The headmaster tried to pull back as fast as he could, but he was not fast enough. The claw shimmered under the sun, its sharp edges dug into his shoulder, the full length of each one sinking in. Before the pain could set in, Ren pulled his claw down. It was fast, and it was brutal.

The claw dragged through the flesh in a clean slash, leaving a one-foot-long, massive, and deep gash on the shoulder of the headmaster. His eyes widened.

"Ho-how?" he muttered in disbelief. He was certain that his spell had landed, and there was no way Ren could have recovered from something like that so quickly.

He was right, because at this very moment, the entirety of Ren’s body was screaming in unimaginable pain, the type that drove one mad, but that was not the full brunt of the attack. He had used Hardened Scales at the very last moment before the first explosion touched him. It had all been part of his plan to trick the headmaster, and it worked.

"You underestimated me," Ren said. His eyes burned with an intense amber glow. Right now, he showed his conviction to this man who stood before him.

The headmaster gritted his teeth, his left hand raised in a swift motion, and a magical circle formed on the hand. It unleashed a close-ranged blast. It was nothing too massive, but it would be enough to get Ren off him.

BOOM!

The blast ripped through the air, but at the last moment, Ren decided to do something else. He went for the staff. His claw wrapped around it cleanly, and he yanked it off the hand of the headmaster as he moved away. Then, to ensure that the headmaster did not come back for it, he unleashed a sonic roar.

The roar slammed into the headmaster and sent him down to the ground like a rocket. He slammed into the ground, and a small crater was formed under him.

’Should I go after him? If I do now, I might be able to...’

Whoosh!

A flame arrow ripped through the air. He dodged it fast and then looked down. Selene was there, and she was attacking.

"Tch, in my current state, it would be far too great a risk to go after him. Tch, fine then, for now you live, old man," Ren said before flapping his wings and shooting high into the sky and then back to his cave.

As he flew back, the adrenaline and rage that he had been feeling finally started fading away, and that was when everything began to settle back in. The actual pain from the beating he had taken was now all settling in, and it had been more than he expected.

His wings began giving out even before he got close to the cave.

"Shit, this is not good," he muttered to himself. There was no other choice. He activated Glide and used it. It managed to keep him floating and flying fast towards the cave.

Even when the cave got in view, he lacked the control to stop himself. He slammed into the ground like a crashing rocket.

BOOM!

He rolled a few times, the staff loose from his claws and bouncing on the ground. His crash finally ended. He lay at the entrance of the cave.

The wolves and lizards saw him crash and then immediately rushed over to him. Remu and Silas were there as well. Ren saw them with his blurry gaze. He was surely about to pass out.

"Food, get me something to eat," he mustered the strength to say.

Immediately, Silas darted out of the cave. He used some sort of wind technique that his evolution had given him and moved faster than a normal wolf could. In only a few minutes, he was back, dragging a large body.

Ren did not even look twice before he moved in for a bite. He consumed without stopping. He needed a lot of food to survive.

[You have consumed Human Flesh, +4 to all stats]

When he saw that notification pop up, he paused.

"What the hell?" He was stunned. He pulled back, and only then did he look at what was before him.

"Oh fuck no," he said. This was one of the teachers. Brogan.

Ren’s eyes darted to Silas. "Really? You picked up the human I killed and fed it to me?" he asked. Silas looked away like he did not know what he did.

Ren was about to scold him some more.

[Unique Fusion possibility unlocked]

"Huh? What’s going on?" he asked, wondering what the system meant.

[Quest update: A divine Armament is considered a living being as it has a small sliver of a god’s soul.

Consume the divine armament and merge it with human properties to create something unique.]

"Huh, what?" Ren read through what was on the screen, and never had he had a mission like this. It was as if the system was the one nudging him towards this one rather than it being a real quest.

"System, do you know something I don’t?" he asked, wanting some answers.

[Just do it, host.]

The system didn’t say more than that. It stopped there and refused to give any more details.

Ren was stumped on what to do. He glanced over at the armament. This was humanity’s greatest weapon, and the system wanted him to just consume it?

"Whatever this is, it better be worth it," he thought to himself before approaching. He picked it up with his mouth.

"How do I even consum..."

The words did not finish leaving his mouth before the staff morphed into a round ball and fell right into his mouth.
